Evening Games Open Thread

Submitted by Zone Left on

This is your open thread for Nebraska's first Big 10 game and any other action you care to watch.

I'm off to re-read the Eleven Warriors LiveBlog. Buckeye tears have been so rare for so long that we shouldn't pass up any opportunity to enjoy them. Combined highlights for both teams included 7 of 30 3rd down conversions, 106 total rushing yards, 3 turnovers, 17 points, and 16 punts. Both teams have good defenses, but ugh, what a mess.

In reading 11W's liveblog, I have deemed the following as demonstrating a solid B1G IQ:

I couldn't believe it when I read it.

"While this is borderline as far as praise for that state up north, it is meant only towards the individual:

Denard Robinson has the best vision as far as rushing I have ever seen. You can see him planning his second & third cut before the first tackler even gets to him.

With that said, Minnesota is truly yucky. Yikes."

I'm annoyed that there are so many good games on TV to watch. I miss the days of two televisions side-by-side. Obviously the main game of interest is the Wiscy/NE one, but I'd love to be able to pay full attention to the Bama/FL game. I guess I can use http://www.espn3.com to watch the Bama game.

Well, they basically shut down SDSU as well, so I'm starting to believe this defense may be more legit than merely scheming.

And just for giggles, here are a couple of other meh teams in AQ conferences:

BC: 1-4, loses to Duke(!) and 30-3 to UCF

Oregon State and Colorado: combined 1-7, losses to Sacramento St,  20 point loss to OSU.

But yeah, Minny might be one of the worst teams in college football, but I do think that if they get Gray back they'll knock off a couple of teams this year.  UM played about as perfect a game as one could expect.

I watched the game with an Ohio fan and every time Sparty made a big play and the players were celebrating, my friend would sarcastically say stuff like, "Yeah, great job! Beat us up and celebrate while our program is down right now!"

Isn't that exactly what Ohio fans have been doing since 2008?

I didn't say anything like that to him, but I thought it. I didn't want to rub it in, even though I was hoping Ohio would win for Michigan's sake (division record for Sparty).

Why is "Real Steel" not called "Rock'em, Sock'em Robots?" I wouldn't dream of watching the former. I'd stand in line to see the latter--regardless of actual content.

If you disagree with this, you're wrong.

Western beat U-Conn today, for those wanting to judge strength of OOC schedules. (Eastern won again too, but that was just against Akron. But still, Eastern).

South Carolina got a first down with about 10 seconds left and then called their last time out instead of spiking the ball on first down. Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb

I have a feeling Nebraska is a paper tiger. Let's find out.

I usually like Nebraska, but I want Wisky to beat Nebraska pretty badly tonight to put the new guys in their place.

Wisconsin has played no one this year and relied entirely on their line outweighing smaller lines.  I think unless Russell Wilson can do something amazing, Wisconsin gets shut down and taken apart.  Nebraska has looked weak but they've played higher level talent and proven more IMHO.

Martinez has the most messed up delivery.  It's a sidearm shot put as far as I can tell.  I wonder if the coaches are ever going to fix that.

Martinez has decent speed, but it looks purely straight line.  He lacks that ability to juke and instantly accelerate in the other direction.  Is it wrong to not really be all that afraid of him?

He made that Nebraska linebacker look pretty dumb there. I'd be scared of him.

Edit: It's not that he's that amazing, he just adds a dimension that, when combined with a really good running game and a solid defense, can take Wisconsin from good to a can beat anyone in the country level.

In other news.  Florida is fast.  And is up 14-3.  They really do have esssssss eeeeeee seeeeee speeeeeed.

Edit:  Untrue.  TD overturned.  Still 7-3

Purdue is doing pretty well, by Purdue standards, only down 14-0 at the end of the first.  Keep ND under 50 will be an achievement for them.

They're huge, they're awesome, yada yada.  I'm not disagreeing but I've seen several egregious holds.  And I know everyone holds, but at least two were really bad and right in front of officials.

I would imagine refs give them a lot of deference because they're supposed to be an awesome blocking machine.

Going to admit something I'm not proud of...I think Alabama's fight song is cool. I also think Rammer Jammer is a cool tradition.

Edit: 10-10 in Gainesville

Clemson is up 23-3 against Virginia Tech.  Who should be ahead of them in the polls if that lead is maintained?  I can't think of many.  Like probably all of you, I'm a fan of moving teams up and down
