Evening Games Open Thread

Submitted by Bando Calrissian on

I'm not going to lie, I started this thread merely because I want to talk about the hilarity of the fact that we're about to watch Rutgers play their first B1G game.

Biggest night for Rutgers football since they won their last National Championship... In 1869?

Purdue is beating Perdue.

And you all laughed when I said the B1G Championship Game would be Purdue vs Rutgers.

FSU 52 ND 17 in a few weeks.  Midwest football is the new Big East football.

I don't know how to make major inroads in the south but we need to basically abandon recruiting the midwest and start below the Mason Dixon line and take 75% of our classes from that area.  It's not just bad coaching up here.  This is basketball country now.

playing mostly midwest teams.  How many of those games are outside the conference every year.  Outside of 1 major non conf game a year they OSU mostly plays the Cincy's Akron's Ball States whomever.

They lost to an overhyped Clemson team last year in a bowl.

MSU likewise - they played Bama 3 years ago in a bowl when Bama lost 2-3 and got smoked.  Last year they had a once in a decade defense so its an exception.  I'd like to see how they would have done even with THAT defense vs a Texas A&M or Oregon in a bowl.

Not talking to exception, talking to the majority of the games.

ND went to play Bama in 2012 and it was no different than the UM game vs Bama that year.   There is a talent gap.  Its resounding.  Even versus 10 years ago when OSU played in the NC game.... gosh look around, it's sad.

re: Wisconsin - they've lose their last 3 Rose Bowls.  Tell me their great out of conference wins versus national elite (top 10 teams NOT in the Midwest)

Well, Gary Nova did rather untraditional Gray Nova things to make that rushing TD, and indeed, a quick check of the stats confirms it is only the second time he has run into the end zone himself. Of course, it is a good thing the TD signal is obvious or the mic problems would have perhaps accidentally rolled into a situation where this was reviewed for intentional grounding somehow.

I'm sorry but both Rutgers and PSU look like ass. Anyone who thinks we should lose to either of these teams is out of their minds. (Not saying we won't lose, but we shouldn't)
