Mainly creating it in hopes someone can point out a game on tonight that doesn't suck.

so down on the starters, but realistically they have gotten much of a chance to perform as a unit. I didn't expect Heitzman to contribute much besides helping against the run coming into the season, but I definatly think the other starters are talented. Black and Washington were supposed to be a solid DT duo, and Clark has shown some flashes here and there.

I also don't agree with the sentiment that the defensive line didn't get pressure against Central. They didn't get a ton of sacks, but they caused several hurries with a four or five man rush. The last two games they have regressed severly.

I just don't think the substitution pattern has helped. How are you supposed to get into a rythm when your constantly going in and out every other play?

We knew going into the season that Heitzman was mainly a run support type, and so far he hasn't done anything in that area to be valuable. I think if you want to get your best 4 on the field the lineup is probally Black-Washington-Pipkins-Clark on first and second down, with some subs for passing downs. The problem is that both Washington and Pipkins play the same technique/spot at DT so that isn't exactly ideal. Ryan with his hand down at times when comes back would probally help as well.

Of course what do I know, I am just a guy on the internet not the coaches. I do think there is a chance that the d-line might play better with a tighter rotation to get guys in a better rythm. The substution pattern today seemed like Mattison was treating it as game to get a bunch of guys in, the problem with that is the game wasn't in hand.

Jake wasn't used in that capacity some on obvious passing downs when gets back. I should have prefaced my first post with the statement that the starters should get more snaps, with the exception of Heitzman. I think his spot is the one that should be up for grabs at this point. I would definatly be willing to sacrifice some size to gain some more speed and playmaking ability at that position.

how open Cal players are getting. You take a team with an awesome QB with threats at WR vs them and they're fucked

Let me give a go at this:

CONS

  1. worse victory in the (my?) history of UM football.
  2. ND is being manhandled by Purdue's defensive line, defensive playcalling, and yeah, are loosing.  Are they trying to steal my last week's joy?
  3. OSU sucks balls, has sort of an average defense, and is winning by a few TD's on the road in Cal.  And the announcers are giving a verbal handjob to Urban.
  4. MSU's offense looked really good, and they destroyed a shitty team just like they were supposed to... but even better.
  5. Alabama won after looking like they might be vulnerable.  What's worse, Johnny Football looked mostly awesome in defeat.  So I had to cheer for that player who is good but whom I really want to lose, just because I hate Alabama even more.  I feel like I lost twice in this game.
  6. Purdue just scored again as I am typing.

On the other hand

PROS

  1. Lewan came back after he was injured.  In the 4th quarter... while playing *on the field* against Akron.  He looked to be crying while lying on the turf.  It looked like they might have been doing an ACL test at first.  But hey, he came to play.  (yes, there is a lot of negative here, but the end result is a positive, amirit?
  2. Lewan (and others) said that UM wouldn't come out and play like this again.  They said it was embarrassing.  Unfortunately, after their effort matched only the student section's effort in the first half, they didn't learn this lesson.  No.  They came out in the 2nd half with the same poor effort.  Same embarrassment.  But hey!  Hey!  It won't happen next time.
  3. Chesson caught a pass, ran fast and got a TD.  Good job, son.

It seems to me what Purdue needs to do now is make the defensive stop on this next drive by ND and then make every drive last forever from here on out. Why risk this lead, right?

Of note is that Tommy Rees has only thrown for 168 yards as of that last throw, far behind the pace from last week's game in Ann Arbor.
