Esquire says Denard Jags only hope
Heading toward one of the biggest mismatches in NFL history, Esquire says Jacksonville's only chance against the Broncos is to deploy Denard (with video). Hey it can't hurt.
Wish he was getting more opportunities.

but, hell yeah. why not get him some carries?

As much as I would like for see Denard get more touches, I think putting him at QB and letting him "figure it out" is a terrible idea.

Plan A-J is most obviously not going to win you the game. Why not try plan K? If I'm the Jags, I approach this like Boise in that bowl game. Trick plays, fakes, etc. Pull out all the stops to give yourself a chance of winning (or at least covering).

Denard has more fumbles than rushing yards*

the only reason I can see for not properly utilizing Denard is that the OC for the Jags is channeling his inner Al Borges by completely mis-using/under-utilizing the incredible talent that is Denard

It certainly couldn't make the following seem any worse for Jacksonville:

Rush Play % | 35.05% | 42.30% |

Completion % | 52.49% | 75.62% |
3D Conv % | 28.77% | 58.33% |
RZ Scoring % | 33.33% | 82.61% |
Defense
|
Jacksonville | Denver |
Opp Yards/Play | 5.7 | 6.3 |
Opp Points/Play | 0.491 | 0.421 |
Opp Completion % | 62.26% | 59.81% |

Opp RZ Scoring % | 52.17% | 59.09% |

It always could be worse. They could lose four yards per play instead of gaining four. They could average one turnover/series. They could be Cumberland College.
I'm reminded of an announcer--I've thankfully forgotten who he even was--frantically screaming into his mic in a late-70s NFL game that THE FALCONS SHOULD RUSH ELEVEN ON EVERY PLAY IT COULDN'T POSSIBLY BE ANY WORSE THAN WHAT THEY'RE DOING NOW.
When NFL coaches start taking advice from Esquire Magazine and sending untested quarterbacks out to figure things out on the fly, they might as well fold their franchise.

Let’s be clear: Robinson has no idea what he’s doing as a quarterback. But that shouldn’t matter, however, since A) Neither do the rest of the Jaguars
Yeah, pretty much. Though I do worry about the kid getting hurt.

Well, I guess at the end of the day, really what do the Jags have to lose? I think putting Denard in at QB would be a disaster waiting to happen, but then again, so would be putting in Blaine Gabbert.
Either way, the Jags are losing this game. By an insane amount of points.

As long as Denard won't get cut I'd rather see him basically sit on the bench as long as possible then break out in his contract year.

As long as he gets Blackmon the ball, IDC.

I don't even think he can offer them much hope. I did not appreciate what a crap team he was going to when they drafted him. I wish he was with Philly or Washington.

No, they mean to score a touchdown.

to comprehend, but he was MUCH better off going to the Lions.
October 11th, 2013 at 8:29 AM ^
Unless you believe he's a better RB than Theo Riddick or a better wide receiver than Ryan Broyles (neither of whom are getting much playing time even when the players ahead of them are injured) the best he could've done on the Lions was practice squad.
Dont' get me wrong, I'd love to see Denard in a Lions jersey. But I don't think he would have had any more impact here than he's had in Jacksonville.

then denard has a shot in the nfl.

I know he was a Buckeye, so we're supposed to hate everything ever about him, but Pryor is a much better QB than Denard.
The fact that he's an NFL starter is a lot less surprising than Denard being an NFL QB
October 11th, 2013 at 2:53 AM ^
As a raiders fan, it's clear that Pryor has put in a lot of work to continue developing as a quarterback.

Denards my starting QB on Madden... I may or may not have modified a few glaring errors in his original ratings. But JAX has not lost a game in 3 seasons... So this should work out just fine.

I think they're in trouble. Denards an elite athlete but just good at QB/RB/WR/KR/CB/PR/DT. I don't think he's magically going to become amazing for the Jags
October 10th, 2013 at 9:03 PM ^
I have a vision of Denard turning into a great slot receiver and, one day, Devin throwing to him in the NFL thereby completing the circle.
