College football is about recruiting, which makes any school in a great recruiting state a fantastic job, especially where there's only one powerhouse school in the state.

There is no time, sir, at which ties do not matter.

I should have been more clear.  Why is LSU on that list over, for example, USC?  Or even Oklahoma?  Both have far more history than LSU.  Heck, USC trumps LSU on in-state talent and intangibles (i.e weather, the ladies, etc).

Les Miles has 3.75 million reason$ why this is a good job.  In addition, LSU has won two MNC's in the past nine years (and played in another MNC game).  That's really all you need to know about the quality of the job.

This is stupid in so many ways. Just because ND has a good year doesn't mean that's suddenly an awesome job.  ND doesn't have nearly the built in advantages of a Florida(which is why Urban chose the Gators when given the choice) or USC or OSU.  And as much as I love Michigan, we don't have near the built in advantages of an OSU(better in state talent, no major in state rival) or a Florida (flagship school in a state with a LOT more talent). I guess maybe if you change it to prestiious it makes it better, but then it's impossible to compare prestige between NFL/College Football.

I'd also say it's harder to win in any NFL job than the top college programs because of the diverging philosophies. The NFL is all about parity, while in College Football, it's all about the rich getting richer via recruiting advantages.

UM is closer to the top of the list than OSU.

How are Houston and NE on there?  The Cowboys, Steelers and probably the 49ers should all be above them.  NE with out Brady isn't a great job.

As much as I loathe ND, I feel like they are the top coaching job in not just football, but all of sports - despite the pas two decades of average product on the field. I just feel if you ask any football coach which job he could have if he were to pick, it would be to coach the Domers.

My list would go like this:

Notre Dame

Green Bay Packers

New York Giants

Pittsburgh Steelers

SF 49ers

Texas

Alabama

Ohio State

USC

Michigan

It's been a lot. Its been a roller coaster that for some reason seemed like it would never get good. But you know what? We kept fighting. It's like that old saying goes, "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions." -David Molk

I am not sure the Texans are a top job in Texas.  I think Texas, Dallas Cowboys and Texas A&M are all better jobs.

Wow a lot of hate for my Texans lol. Bob McNair has built the 9th most valuable sports team in the world and the franchise is only 10 years old. With a rabid fan base (every game has sold out despite not being good a vast majority of the time), a great front office, and a smart owner, it is a good place to be.

To be totally unbiased, I'd say the top 3 jobs in college (in no particular order) are Texas, USC and Ohio.  I'd put michigan on a short list, but our instate talent is somewhat lacking to be considered one of the best.

Who the hell would want to live in Alabama or Louisiana?  And up until about 5 years ago, Bama sucked for an entire decade.  LSU was pretty much irrevelant before 2000.

Just more ESPiN shining the SEC's knob.

Wasn't the Notre Dame coaching position open twice for pretty much... forever? I'm pretty sure they had kind of a hard time filling that spot. Urban Meyer's turned them down and he's a money whore.

What qualifies these jobs as a top coaching job?  They have a TON of pressure to succeed.  I'd rather coach a team like Clemson, Florida (before Spurrier) or LSU (before Saban/Miles) because the pressure is lower, they have some tradition, and in-state talent is amazing.
