ESPN's Sanctions Review

Here is ESPN's take on the sanctions that Michigan leveled on themselves.  Make sure to vote on the poll.  Currently 54% state that Michigan's self-penalty is not sufficient.

that is not ESPN's take

that is Angry Sports Enthusiast Behind Keyboard and Mouse's take on the sanctions. given the fact that people rarely vote in casual polls and only tend to click through crap like that if they truly care, and would likely only care about it in an anti-UM manner, 54-46 is not bad at all for a "public opinion"

I'm going to do the best I

I'm going to do the best I can to basically ignore anything E!SPN says about the whole situation today.  Granted, I'm sure some reasonable opinions will be voiced, but for the most part they'll just be trying to make as big of a deal about this as possible (and they'll be successful, as they always are).

Yes, I do understand that rules were broken and we deserve a certain amount of negative publicity, but this will be a rough couple of days as everything gets magified and blown out of proportion for the 10th time.  Hopefully we can weather the storm and move the hell on until this rears its ugly head again in August.

Rittenberg, as usual, had a pretty rational summary of the situation over in the BigTen Blog.  They're not all evil.  Just the majority of them.

The article itself isn't terrible

But I wish they wouldn't have made it sound like Michigan took it so easy on themselves.  Really, the article fails to explain what actions are really happening, like the 2:1 hour reduction, and that what the QC staff had done, is no longer allowed to do, while other QC staffs are.  If that was explained better I wouldn't have any problem with the article really.  The public opinion doesn't mean much to me, what matters to me is the NCAAs opinion.

I will bet you serious cash

that 52.9% of those that are currently responding that the punishment isn't harsh enough are responding solely based on anti-M vitrol.

And are SEC fans.

We are talking about

We are talking about commenters at ESPN - I don't even think that they have an ulterior motive; they just like to take a negative view of things.  I used to think that RCMB was the gutter of sports blogging, but spending even a couple of minutes at ESPN makes me ill.  I could care less about what that poll says.

I suspect self-serving bias,

I suspect self-serving bias, in that people seem to always support harsher penalties for everyone besides themselves.  How many people would say we should be harder on burglars?  Tax cheats?  Drunk drivers?

In that same line of thinking, I'm certainly hoping USC gets the hammer tonight.  I'm likely to think whatever the NCAA does isn't 'harsh enough.'  I'm sure I would feel differently if I were a USC fan.

Poll Results

Who else thinks a bunch of Ohio State and Michigan State fans went on there and voted for that.
