Below is a video on ESPN.com with Jessie Palmer talking about Michigan.
I would like to see a Big Ten Championship but I am not sure that will happen this year.
Dear Jessie Palmer et al,
Can we stop talking about Iowa before @MSU?
he went on at length about how much of a test Michigan faced this weekend at MSU.
Must have jumped the gun there... Half-listening at work and heard Iowa 2 or 3 times. My bad.
Iowa was mentioned once while MSU was talked about for a good 10 to 15 seconds...
With just 1 loss we can go from the surprise of the season to the team who doesn't have enough experience/talent. Sports always has, and always will be about.......what have you done fore me lately, so enjoy the media love/attention while its good. That being said, we're literally 2 Forcier drives away from being 2-2, so I'd say speaking about a B10 championship is premature at this point.
I watched the video again to see if I missed something but he was talking basically about seeing what Tate does on the road at MSU and then said if Michigan can win at MSU then he could see Michigan winning the big ten but they would have to win on the road at Iowa.
@1:50 Palmer says "huge game this week on the road at Michigan State".
Why do we care what Jesse Palmer has to say? Because his brother was a good QB? I appreciate his love for Michigan here but I've never understood why he has so much say on ESPN.
Who was Jesse Palmer's brother that was a good QB? It was not Carson Palmer, if that's what you are inferring.
He is still with the Bengals with Carson, I believe.
Yeah, I know, right? I hate hearing about Michigan having a chance to win the Big Ten title. Please, can we rewind to 2008? I'd much rather prefer to hear UM in the doghouse.
Why he has so much say on ESPN? Maybe because they pay the guy to do exactly that, give his opinion. Real interesting pick by Palmer to throw us up as a Big Ten Title contender. I can obviously see where he is coming from as PSU and OSU have both looked worse than their hype may lead somebody to believe. I think we have a shot, but it's a long one at this point. I don't think our defense has what it takes to win all of our games in conference. I think OSU could light us up, along with other teams.
of Jordan Palmer not Jesse.
Jesse played at Florida, was in the NFL, and was on the Bachelor. Nothing says football knowledge like the Bachelor.
I don't see Jesse giving you a rose.
Quite the little negbang here, wonder if the dude even realizes he got dinged this badly yet.
I get what I deserved there. I got confused and made a dumb comment. Wasn't expecting that much neg.
This seems premature to me. I'm as thrilled as everyone else to see 4-0, but we are just getting to the tough part of our season. I said 8-4 before the season started, and I think that is still where we'll end up, which means we go .500 from here on out.
As things get tougher, I expect a media over-reaction in the other direction. ("What is RR doing wrong at MI? This team was 4-0!") I'll give those news pieces the same amount of weight as this fluffy bit, which means not much.
Year's Day Bowl and said "I believe in Rich Rodriguez. We'll see how long that lasts.
jesse palmer is not carson palmer's brother; jesse played qb at florida and for 6 seasons with the G-men. i kind of like him as a tv personality to be honest. he speaks well regarding x's and o's and he doesnt act like he knows SO MUCH MORE than the audience.
was also THE "Bachelor".
As far as football analysts go I think he is one of the better ones IME.
I kept waiting for him to give roses to beautiful women, but it never happened. How disappointing.
If he were to give out a rose, it would be the most dramatic College Football Live ever!
Carson's brother is Jordan Palmer and they look exactly alike. Jesse Palmer was the QB just after Doug Johnson at Florida.
When Steve Spurrier runs ESPN, Jesse Palmer's analysis will constantly be interrupted with analysis by Doug Johnson or Rex Grossman before cutting back to Jesse and then back to Doug or Rex repeatedly.
^^^^NOW THAT IS FUNNY^^^^^
anyone speaking well about Michigan.
After last season and this summer, any positive attention is welcome.
Winning sure helps too.
There have been plenty of D1 caliber Canadians recruited to the US to play Curling.
While he was born in Kinshasa, his family left when he was 4 for the Montreal area (according to Wikipedia).
I don't think large numbers of Canadians play football in the States. There may be more playing basketball. Two guys who sit near me at work (I'm in Toronto) played basketball at a MAC school and a DII school in the states (I think).
the problem w/ what Jesse's saying is that there's no mention of how our defense right now is a huge liability. I think tate will be fine through the course of the year, but talking about Tate and the chance of a Conference Championship w/o considering how bad the defense has been is missing a huge part of the puzzle.
but, it is nice to see that people are seeing potential in what Rich Rod's got going on. one week at a time, though.
I'd say QB play is the main reason we are 4-0 right now, and if Tate stays healthy, we can put up a ton of points this season and beat just about anyone in a shootout.
But I think that would get us about 3rd, MAYBE second at most in the conference.
The D coming together (which probably won't happen completely until next year) is what we'll need to really compete for the championship and beyond.
I'm truly glad I experienced last year, because I'm appreciating watching the pieces come together this year in a way I never really have before.
I have to completely agree with your final statement. Last year was by far the worst year I have ever had as a fan of college football. After last year (coupled with being a Lions fan...) I am extremely gracious and far more appreciative of any and all success I get to enjoy from the teams I root for.
Hard to believe they made a big deal about Palmer when 'Air Canada' himself was breaking ankles at Crisler.
Yes, after last year it's nice to get some postive press for a change (I'll take it!). But...this stuff just sounds like someone who's only watched the highlights and is offering no real in depth analysis. No mention of our defense? That is the real challenge for our team this year.
Nice to get some love on TV, but I still can't watch Palmer (or either "brother") Jesse has too much douchey, "I love myself and everything I say is important because I said it"-ness for me.
I really liked Flutie and enjoyed him and Craig James when they were both together doing games.
Palmer goes on and on about how we can succeed if Tate continues "not to hurt" us. Wrong - we actually need Tate to actively win games for us, not just manage the offense. And Palmer does not even mention the albatross hanging around our neck - the defense. Listening to the analysis, you would think that our only question mark is quarterback, where the truth is that QB is one of our strongest points right now.
But I'm not going to complain too much about someone saying nice things about Michigan. Especially Jesse Palmer - he's so dreamy. I wish he would give me a rose.
there i said it.
