ESPN.com finally changes Michigan logo

Submitted by Yostal on

So, essentially here's the story.  Having read posts by both MGoShoe and Section 1 that related that Mr. Brandon was pushing Michigan toward the Block M as the primary logo mark for Michigan, I sent, over the course of six months, several emails to ESPN.com customer care telling them that they had the wrong logo for Michigan on their site.  The first couple were ignored, but thanks to some help from the MGoTwitterati and some links to the official Michigan site, ESPN.com has finally switched the Michigan logo on the site to the Block M.

What had been Old ESPN.comis now..Block M

This logo, while not the traditional Maize logo, does closely resemble the center court logo at Crisler.  I know that the maize Block M, even with the blue border, would be very hard to see on a white background site, but this is a good luck.  It will look very nice on ESPN.com

Now to make SI.com change their logo: SI.com logo

I'm happy they're changing the logo. The old one looks too much like something that would be found on a Starter jacket in the year 1994.

I prefer the inside to be maize with a blue border, though.

I actually did not detest the Split M, when it was the 1990s version:

but when it moved to this version:

I began to like it less and less.  Plus, the Block M, in a small rendering, looks so much better than the split M.  Plus, the Block M is the center logo at Michigan Stadium, Crisler, and Yost.

maize may be highlighter yellow in your mind, but in nature corn comes in many shades of yellow (not to mention reds and purples.)  the official shades appear to be more of the "gold" color as opposed to "highlighter", but the official shades vary within the university.  For example, the athletic blue is brighter than the business school blue and the health system yellow is more gold than other parts of the university.  check out: http://www.logos.umich.edu/print.html

FWIW I think Brian got the colors about right.

please please please no "script Michigan" on the back of the new scoreboards the Big House - Block M only!

And the new "Hello" posts need to ditch the script Michigan logo in the bottom right corner if possible - thanks.

GO BLUE!

I like the blue one a little better than the maize one, anyway.  Blue is (or used to be) sort of our primary color.

That being said, I can understand why we've used the scripted "Michigan'' logo in sports.

This is mainly to prevent confusion for people who may not be very familiar with the college football teams (non Americans).

I don't blame ESPN for being confused.
