ESPN Traditions Poll Update
Something has gone awry in the last day for Michigan in the ESPN voting for the best College Football tradition. Yesterday we held a slim lead over the Cornhuskers, but today we're down 37-63. Also, the voting has also increased to over 370,000 votes, which is 4 times the total voting for the Clemson round last week. I'm not sure if this a surmountable lead, but crazier things have happened.
If you want to vote for Michigan's tradition, the poll can be found here.
Ever see the Chicago Bulls intro? Add a horse shoe which they touch before entering the stadium and there you go.
The scoreboard shows a computer generated first person camera flying around and eventually through various parts of the stadium to the Alan Parsons Project's tune "Sirus." Then the camera goes live to the actual players before they run out. Started in 1994
into oblivion if you would like, but I don't really think the Michigan banner leap really deserves to even come close to winning this thing. My personal opinion is that FSU, ND, TSIO, Clemson all have 'cooler' pre-game traditions, just out of the teams that were in the last round or so of the tournament. There are probably a lot of others as well that weren't in the running (A&M comes to mind).
That being said, of course I voted for UM like a typical lemming. And I do think we deserve to beat Nebraska, since their pregame tradition is pretty weak.
Helmet and uniform matchups, that's another story...UM in a landslide.
Go back to Ohio, Brutus. We don't take kindly to your type around these parts.
<br>-Chet
it goes without saying that you are a douche.
When did this place turn into a slappy convention? Can't even voice a contradictory opinion without a post getting flagged as 'flamebait' and some newbie who joined last week playing internet tough guy.
As the actual site content has gotten exponentially better, the chat board has gotten exponentially worse. Come for the TomVH, but don't bother staying for the post-dinner mixer.
Sorry I thought with those lines people could detect the hillbilly accent sarcasm, isn't it from a movie? Don't take it so seriously bro.
<br>-Chet
GO AWAY.
Well why don't people from here just write a script to vote for Michigan as well. The only way to beat a cheater is to cheat better.
Thats what I'm saying, I realize Michigan fans usually say "we're above that" when it comes to cheating. Which I agree when it comes to trading gear for Tats and taking cash and loaner cars. However, when it comes to online polls, shit get gets real.
I would if I knew how. I can do some by hand though. Not that it will make up hundreds of thousands of votes though.
I'll try to write something up, buy I haven't done that sort of coding since my sophomore year of undergrad. I'll try to figure out how Nebraska did it, but itll be hard go do without raising suspicion, as Nebraska had more time to lay out the botted votes than I will.
<br>-Chet
Nobody cares about suspicion, least of all ESPN. More votes = more rabid fans trying to win = more clicks. They'll probably send you a gift basket.
Hey guys, you know Mgrowold isn't going to like this line of thinking.
THE BOTS!....THE BOTS!....THE BOTS!
edit: Seems like the appropriate pep talk.
We need someone to post instructions to script votes so we can all do it and absolutely blow them out of the water
run their bot on every computer in one of those empty labs on N. Campus.
I'm working on it, unfortunately the program is run on flash, which is a rather well protected program, might take me some time. Hope my boss doesn't see!
<br>-Chet
Don't do it Chet! It's not worth it. I say let them win if it's that important for them to cheat, if they won fair and square, so be it. I only care about what happens on the field.
lulzsec or anonymous. Fix this please.
All of the Big Ten schools are ganging up on us because they know we're about to return to glory. No one wants to see Michigan become domiant again but we will, and soon. Having my partners in the bay area vote.
This comment is ridiculous.
That winning this poll is an obvious stepping stone for Hoke. Once we win this, nothing will stop us from winning the national championship!
Also, upon reading this comment, did anyone else get a strong 'Dear Leader'/North Korea vibe?
Everyone is jealous that Brady Hoke invented the delicious "double bread with meat" and only serves it at the University of Michigan
Hoke once shot a 38 under par in 18 holes on the University course? He had 5 hole in ones!
Totally necessary to interupt expensive lawyers day to vote in an online poll, wow. Btw I've coded the base model for the bug I'll put Into the flash program which will give UM 2 votes a second and Nebraska 1 vote a second.
<br>-Chet
good work ! but why only 2 to 1 ?
2-1. You'll just be counterbalancing their bots and level the voting rate.
Yeah why not something outrageous like 20 to 1 to get us back into this thing
Nebraska to get the 200,000+ votes they did in under 12 hours they needed nearly 5 votes to our none (or 6-1)
All of the Big Ten schools are ganging up on us...
I doubt it. Thanks for voting though.
figuring out that "sparty" is not a term of endearment (Hollis recently tweeted (t)his epiphany to Dave Brandon) and that recently beating Michigan doesn't remove the "little bro" tag. RCMB shows that decades of dominance by Michigan over Sparty must be hard to get over.
[edit: this was meant to be a response to Erimicrom's comment about embarrasment from an inferiority complex.]
i don't know if anyone reads chuck palahniuk (fight club, etc) or not, but in one book, survivor i think, the country decides to get rid of all of its porn and sex toys and uses nebraska as its dumping ground. its a pretty cool vision of tumble-porn rolling across a dildo field. this is how i think of nebraska now.
Using that mental image as how you think of Nebraska is that that mental image is actually interesting, unlike Nebraska...
From the past couple years, my mental image of Nebraska is of this state that I either pass through at midnight to get to Colorado or this state that I pass through at midnight after I've gone through Colorado. California Zephyr FTW.
Last night around 1am, we were up 12%, or roughly 17,000 votes. This morning at 9am, we were losing by 26%, roughly 82,000 votes. So in an 8hour span from 1am-9am, they gained 100,000 votes on us. The total vote count went from 170,000 to nearly double that this morning(and now up near 400,000). It's hard to believe they picked up that many votes overnight, during THOSE hours.
and I failed to mention that I added about 200 votesjust as I was watching TV from 11pm-1am using Google Chrome.
Phew! Thanks for clarifying that. I appreciate the fact that you created another post to give us that extra info. I was beginning to wonder what you were doing on your computer at 1AM.
are you the guy who designed that Wolverine head logo on the sportslogos.com message board? That is a good logo.
I didn't, if you were asking me. I just found it on the internet and thought it was a cool pic.
Nebraska just has a lot of support in Azerbaijan. In fact, they're popular in most of central Asia.
But I thought we had the most popular blog on the central Asian steppe?
Borodin FTW.
We're getting smoked now. Boo.
Its because little brother can't stand to see us win anything. They have a thread at RCMB that is titled "help Nebraska beat SCum" or some shit like that which has a link to the voting page.
<br>
<br>They are obsessed with Michigan
MOAR HAXORZ!
Michigan fans do not need validation from an ESPN poll.
I don't. But judging by how many threads and replies this topic has generated it seems some people do.
Yea I'd rather lose and know We where on the up and up then cheat and win. The other polls averaged 80k votes the michigan v. neb. is over 500k. Would be cool if they just DQ'd Nebraska and michigan and gave it to the winner of the Notre dame FSU poll.
I'd rather wake up tomorrow morning, see the daily thread on the matchup, click the link and see Michigan winning with 1 billion votes. Thats right. 1 Billion.
Well then make a bot and get us a couple million votes. Seems simple enough
