ESPN Tradition Finals: Bot War II
http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/post/_/id/6738691/4-florida-st-vs-11-michigan
The finals have already become a battle of the bots. This is just the second day of voting and there are already more than 7million votes. FSU currently is winning by about 4%. We will need some heavy botting to pull this one out, but FSU should be no match for Michigan's superior computer knowledge.
And don't forget: Bot early, bot often
Our EECS majors are better than their EECS majors.
Who started it this time?
I could be wrong but Im pretty sure FSU started the bots. They had quite a large lead earlier this afternoon.
Michigan bots intervened and got us this close, but FSU has been keeping pace.
i think we both started in with the bots basically from the beginning. it became clear in the semi-finals that this would be a battle of the techies, not fan support.
I didn't see any signs of bots being used last night. The vote total was only around 132K at that point. When the bots came into play that shot into the millions like before.
with 22 million votes hahahaha
i can has bot 2 help?
I dont know shit about computer programming but Go Blue!
<br>I think I may have mistakenly taken the poll offline. I realized that after I started to run my mod to the poll that I had mistakenly used bad source code. Essentially I believe my mod was attempting to force the poll backwards for FSU (ie a vote for them leaves them with one LESS vote), I thought it would be easier but it appears that ESPN has some sort of fail safe. Probably my bad!
<br>-Chet
<br>PS-I hope we win and I will keep trying to help.
<br>
Yeah, I have a hard time believing that "Chet" blew up the ESPN poll. Nice try.
Better explanation: ESPN is tired of the bot wars.
Alt explanation: There are only so many votes the ESPN poll can handle.
Unbelievable. You forgot to check and see if you had bad source code?!?!?
Way to go and ruin it for everybody Chet.

PS - I'm pretty sure Akon is still alive.
I thought Akon was hiding out in Cuba.
Is there any way for the liberal arts majors among us to help out? Aside from clearing cookies from Chrome and manually voting a paltry 5 times per minute...
We can write a 10-15 page research paper analyzing the social and cultural superiority of Michigan’s banner tradition compared to Florida State’s while simultaneously highlighting Michigan’s greater overall importance to college football and send it to ESPN in the event of a tie.
... no
We have actually been thinking of writing up a joint doc on the benefits of having a home and home between the schools and sending them to the ADs. Yea, it hadn't happened yet.
I know you guys are out there and can do whatever it is you do to rig this thing for us! Maybe we LSA types need to find a way to e-mail the kids at the S of Engineering or something. - they might be too busy to know of such things . . .
FSU was trying to be sneaky with theres, constantly adding a few thousand votes an hour. So them.
I'm not from mich (just have an aunt that lused to ive in AA, nice town). I was the Husker bot creator and I posted a modified version for Michigan votes in the other thread. For windows, if you have linux, I'd imagine just say so and someone more reputable may find you.

Beware though there is an FSU fan running around trying to impersonate me to get Michigan fans to use their bot. So I broke my earlier rule of one link, but it is actually from the same account.
Helping the good guys. Much appreciated.
Gotta help out your new conference mates.
This is the same link as posted lower in the thread, from the FSU troll!!
It was clean for a day, but FSU started botting earlier today. I've been saying I was going to do it for a couple days, but I really do need to reinstall Ubuntu and modify the script to run on the new poll. My laptop can be my own little voting machine.

This might help.
Hmmmmm 1 point...FSU troll trying to get us to do their dirty work?
And it's the exact same link as Husker9's above. I'd beware of both.
Just explain something, when you open the read me file it says that it was developed by a husker fan so they would use it against us, I know it can be modified, but i don't get the sense that it was modified to "vote" for Michigan, and there's no way to know 1) if it's indeed voting and 2) who is it voting for
I didn't know people in Florida knew how to use computers. Which is why it's probably some UM-Hating troll in Ohio sucking at life.
...and people in ohio know how to use computers???
Yes.
Only way out of this state is to get an education.
my bad, i should have said "and osu fans know how to use computers for anything other than looking at porn and trolling message boards...?"
Much better.
"The winning school will receive hundreds of copies of EA's "NCAA Football 12" on the day of game's release (July 12)"
They realize that all these schools will be virtually empty on July 12th right?
Well that sucks, I won't be on campus. Is it even a hand them out type of thing or put these in the library/union type of thing?
I realize it totally sucks for most students, but I'll be on campus so it just makes the chance of me getting a free copy that much better. That and the fact that I'm willing to camp out several hours in advance to save $60.
Dude i'm on campus this summer where can i get my free copy if we win? I'll have just gotten the new song of ice and fire book (nerd alert its the book series that game of thrones on HBO was based off of) and so i'll just be happy to sit and read that in a line until i get my game.
Not a troll. It was legit. You might want to check it before saying stuff like that. Or the comments on the espn site.
Forgive me for jumping to conclusions, but you 1.) made your account in the last 35 minutes, 2.) have contributed nothing to any other thread yet, and you happen to pop up on this thread with a link to help bot. After our friendly nebraska fan warned us to keep an eye out for Semitrolls, I'm a little cautious of this scenario.
Especially when it involves downloading something to our computers
The bots are boosting the count at an insane rate right now. Already over 10 million and we are down 52% - 48%
Completly understandable. I have a scout.com name as well, and i've been a member for 4 years there. Long time learker, first time poster.
Protip: if you are replying directly to a previous comment, hit "comment" below their comment, not the original post. It helps keep things cogent and clean.
Thanks, good to know.
I am in and botting up. I have 5 instances running right now. Go Blue!!
I'm pretty sure the actual Michigan bot that won the last round hasn't decided to turn on yet. It is tough to tell from the massive amount of votes going in. But FSU decided to turn there's on full blast this evening and to stem the tide I released mine from last round set to vote Michigan in this round.
But the one I posted was why the Nebraska Michigan poll got as close as it was and wasn't a lopsided 80% victory for michigan, so it can't hurt to run it.
The other guy that posted it did the same link, but you should be suspicious before downloading and running anything off a message board or the internet.
He goes by the name Michigan_bot.
I downloaded it just because i don't have windows anyways, but that file had written that it had been made by a husker, is that you? how can anyone who decides to run it be sure that the bot is doing what it's supposed to be doing?
You raise a good point.
Well besides Nebraska not being in this round I cant really guarantee anything.
I've posted it here too: http://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/52863-espn-tradition-battle…
And beyond that you'd have to know how to check the program to verify it is legit. I can't really prove it beyond providing source code and I won't do that in a public forum. Maybe someone will do that for me, but who knows. In the end unless some Michigan grad pops up who has an impecable repuataion and can verify if votes for who I say it does you'd have to take me at my word.
I can't do anything about that, maybe other michigan fans who have been watching the vote count go up can give reports that they think it is working.
LIAR.
Find me the private forum where you'd all discuss this and you can have a look at my source code for yours. I'm pretty sure they use the same librarys, but mine is compiled. I've got no problem with that. beyond that /shrug.
You gained another percent in the last hour.
yeah, I understad, unfortunately I don't have any idea how to make sure, I don't doubt your word, but I think I'll let the guys who know about this stuff do their work, is not like they're that bad doing their thing I guess, thnks
The really sad thing is, after FSU decided they would impersonate me I made an FSU version that votes for Michigan (fair is fair, but who resort to that first besides the scared?). So you've got somewhere around 1/3 the downloads on this bot going to FSU fans, but voting for Michigan. Assuming they actually run it.
Why not give us the source code? What's to hide?
