ESPN Postulates 3 big changes coming for Wolverines

I'm a believer that the more you see this stuff, the more likely it is to become real.  The court of media is very convincing (Just ask Winston) no matter if it is how it should be or not.  It's one thing to have blogs and sidebar sports sites saying Hoke has a hot seat.  When ESPN starts pushing the "It's a done deal" line things tend to sprial out of control.

MOD EDIT - the entire article plus what was behind the Insider link was posted in here. Let's try to leave some value for the authors themselves, please. - LSA

(giving you the benefit of the doubt, because otherwise . . .).  If you're not a duplicate just supporting your bullshit persona that very few are buying:

You're good for economy.  You buy things. You believe shit that people with ordinary common sense do not, and you probably waste your money and time.

Well, my money and time have value and cannot be wasted, thus so much the better if yours do and mine don't.  Best advice: get a life and some common sense.

If you are a duplicate (which is what I presume): get a fucking life - only stupid people are buying this, and only authenticated idiots think everyone else is so stupid.

EDIT: that's a pretty quick upvote for some obscure post.  Ibid.

I assume I'm one of those losers you mention. I didn't have a avatar and she told me to put a pic of her up didn't think it was a huge deal and I will put a work friendly one up. Last, maybe you're way older then me but I think all young people are on some kind of message board, Facebook or some kind of social media site, so I guess we are all losers. Shit I'm watching football and my girlfriend is playing the playstation 4.

Hoke and Brandon would need to be gone in one fell swoop, or Brandon first, with no delay the other way around. You cannot have Brandon in charge of this search. Even for five minutes.

The Regents have already pushed back against Brandon. President Schlissel is now on record as being uncomfortable about the balance between athletics and academics. The academic units are uncomfortable, if not completely pissed about the way Athletics has poached donors from program donor lists (a longstanding no-no on campus). The fanbase is done with him, too. The writing is on the wall.

The question is how this goes down. Brandon could be gone by season's end, without a doubt. New guy comes in, cleans house across the board (both at Schembechler Hall and 1000SSS), and get this thing back on track from the ground up. Starting again with a new coach in a Dave Brandon Athletic Department is just keeping this cycle rolling for another four or five years.

As for Les Miles, I'll believe it when I see it. But getting rid of DB could be a step in that direction, should both parties want to go there. I have my doubts.

Hoke is shown the door.

Mattison is given the interim job for the rest of the year, and possibly next year.

(He'll be 66 at the end of next season.)

Between now and the end of this season, the Regenst and Pres look for a new AD.

New AD is given the choice to have Mattison stay for next year, or look for a new HC ASAP.

If he wants time to get settled in before hiring a coach, talk to Mattison about next year being his last.

If Mattison stays, try to keep Nuss on as well, if for nothing else some semblence of continuity.

I think this allows the staff to keep the transfers from happening, and keep the recruiting class together.  And you never know, removing Hoke might allow Nuss to coach the offense he wants, and shouldn't have much of an impact on the defensive side if Mattison stays.

I'm not digging up all the stories, it was all rather well documented in terms of Schlissel. Interviews with the Daily, I think, plus some other comments in the press. One of the big sticking points as well was his surprise that from Athletics' perspective, money donated to Athletics counts for ten times the amount of donations to other academic units when it comes to Victors Club points. He didn't get it--and he's right.

As for the academic units, it's just a well-known thing around campus. Heard it from a few directions. It's always been a point of order amongst the departments that you don't poach from other peoples' lists. Brandon threw that all out and started going after major donors to other corners of the university. Combined with the points incentives for giving to Athletics over the university at large, plus the luxury box giving and escalating PSD pressures, money is flowing into Athletics instead of the academic units.

It's a lot of inside baseball stuff, but in the Fleming Building world, these things carry weight. The Regents have grown tired of rubber-stamping blank checks for things like fireworks and goofy electronic advertising, don't like the negative press from things like the skywriting incident, and now that Mary Sue is gone, have a new regime in place in which to clean house if they so desire. It seems they very well might.

OK, interesting. Obviously I have to take the comments on donor-poaching with a grain of salt, but it's rather believable.

Do the regents employ DB, or does Schlissel? If Art does, I wonder if he would not shake things up so much for a year or so (seems to be his approach to a lot of stuff for now, no?). But I could see the regents moving quickly if they thought the move would be popular, as elected officials.

There is now way DB gets fired over this. DB's primary job function is fundraising and the last time I checked Michigan had collected record-breaking donations from Stephen Ross and Al Glick to completely upgrade nearly all of the athletic facilities. I just don't see it happening unless the biggest donors decide they want DB out, which I think is highly unlikely.

Sure that's his main job, but he's not the only one who can do that job. There's enough rumblings behind the scenes about DB, the culture of the Athletic Department, and its interactions with the University at large that indicate his job is by no means safe. This isn't just about Hoke--it's about a guy people don't like to work for or with, who a lot of donors either despise or not-so-quietly tolerate, and who has a tendency to overshadow the program he's supposed to be leading.

The writing is on the wall--this isn't a guy who will be around forever. And with the football program disintegrating around him, and Hoke being his guy, there's no way one falls without the other going, too.

Dave may have brought in some big ticket donors. However, I know from my time working with the AD, that small to medium donations are eroding. The particular sport I work with, our number of donors are down 33% since 2012. It is not all puppies and rainbows in fundraising land. Brandon is starting to fail in this regard as well.

starting morris is a really really really reallly good idea. really good. this team needs a jolt.

let gardner go back to wr. he may not love the idea, but he might as well transition now if he has any plan of pro football.  and frankly, wr looks like a major issue for this team.

throw him to the wolves. give him the job, let him practice with the first string. unless you think this season is salvageable with the status quo, you lose nothing by giving shane a chance, but you get him valuable experience with the chance he catches on and our offense becomes legit.

and i think gardner at wr is imidiately the second best target on the team.

toss Morris into a game like yesterday or with the backups and expect him to immediately be a miracle worker. While I agree he hasn't been anything special, Gardner has proven himself to be a wholly ineffective option at QB so far this season, so why not try another option?

I like Devin's character and dedication in helping his team win, but it would be nice to see a 'true' quarterback behind the line at Michigan. I understand Shane struggled yesterday, but coming in under those circumstances, most everyone would struggle under the pressure. Coach Hoke is a good guy, but his time at Michigan has proven that he is not a truly qualified coach to lead a program like this in a conference like this. It is time to bring in an AD who will put football back into this program instead of the business mindset.

Dave's Not Here . . .

1. The Admonition about changing horses in mid-stream has a corollary;  especially when the horse you move to isn't as good as the horse you left.

2. Conducting a Sham of a National search.

3. Those responsible for undermining a coach were oblivious to the damage it does to the program long term.

The chickens for these decisions have come home to roost.

The time has come to scramble some eggs.

Rex Ryan. If jets have a losing season he's gone. He can be defensive minded head coach because nuss ain't going anywhere with that contract. Rex would destroy the recruiting trail

The list of realistic replacements is uninspiring. If the jets don't make the playoffs he will be available. Why not make a call? Not sure he would want to go back to being a DC if he isn't offered a HC position. I'm just throwing it out there, I would genuinely be excited for that type of hire.

No matter who we get, be it Miles, Harbaugh, other Harbaugh, or the ghost of FH Yost, I'm not climbing any fucking bandwagons. I'm not gonna tip them over, but I'm not gonna be sold on them either.

Just STFU and show me the wins. Get the team to be competant and get the ficking wins.

Mullen would be a very solid hire for UM. He has coached MSU for 5 full seasons and has won 56% of his games in those 5 years. The last MSU coach to post a better winning % was Darrell Royal (the legendary coach of Texas) who coached MSU for 2 seasons and went 12-8.

MSU is a historically bad program and the SEC West is currently the best division in CFB, so he is fighting an uphill battle just trying to get 7 wins a season in that division. If he came to UM he could probably win at least 8 games a year pretty easily. In addition, I believe he is from Pennsylvania, so he would probably be amenable to moving back to the Midwest.
