ESPN Postulates 3 big changes coming for Wolverines
http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/travis-haney/post/_/id/3557/big-changes…
I'm a believer that the more you see this stuff, the more likely it is to become real. The court of media is very convincing (Just ask Winston) no matter if it is how it should be or not. It's one thing to have blogs and sidebar sports sites saying Hoke has a hot seat. When ESPN starts pushing the "It's a done deal" line things tend to sprial out of control.
MOD EDIT - the entire article plus what was behind the Insider link was posted in here. Let's try to leave some value for the authors themselves, please. - LSA

I agree with Cold War. 4 Turnovers by your starting QB against ND? A bunch of turnovers against Utah. Utah basically lived on our side of the field. Defense did a bang up job keeping the offense reigned in.
People are just too into their feelings now. Give Morris a chance. In the KSU game he didn't throw a pick until force-the-ball-time. withought turnovers and offensive production are games go alot differently.
September 21st, 2014 at 8:53 PM ^
Both games were out of hand before the turnovers really started. We had one through three quarters yesterday, but were down 23-10 I believe. Wasn't it 21-0 against Notre Dame before there was a single turnover against?
September 21st, 2014 at 1:58 PM ^
And you got 2 of them...
September 21st, 2014 at 1:36 PM ^
Please god let this happen.

Seeing as how BBall is killing it, I think DB might be able to keep his job. The only way he gets canned is if we can't sell out any home games. If football becomes less profitable, then yes I'll think he gets canned. It's like the Lions. Millen was a complete moron, but he kept putting butts in seats which is why he lingered so long.
September 21st, 2014 at 1:42 PM ^
What does the basketball success have to do with DB??
September 21st, 2014 at 1:42 PM ^
Except Bill Martin hired Beilein.
September 21st, 2014 at 2:06 PM ^
well...we are already 3/7 of the way to not selling out any of our games...lose to minny this coming weekend, watch out for the PSU game. There will be open spaces in the crowd for the night game for a national televised game. Lose UTL III and it will get very ugly.

Why not Kirby Smart here?
September 21st, 2014 at 1:51 PM ^
Hes not leaving Alabama for any job except for Georgia HC.

Richt is a nice guy, recruits well, and fields competitive teams when half of his players are injured.
September 21st, 2014 at 2:18 PM ^
Or in jail? I want nothing to do with a him.
September 21st, 2014 at 4:47 PM ^
Um how about not. Richt chokes constantly.
September 21st, 2014 at 3:15 PM ^
How about a three team trade where we get Richt, Georgia gets Smart, and Alabama gets a bag of turds?
September 21st, 2014 at 4:24 PM ^
What makes you think Alabama would want Hoke?
September 21st, 2014 at 2:20 PM ^
Smart is the only real option. He makes 1.2 million a year. You pay him 4.5 a year he will come. He is young and tough. Let's do this.
September 21st, 2014 at 2:34 PM ^
is the next HC at Alabama.
September 21st, 2014 at 3:33 PM ^
i don't know if you've noticed, but the problem isn't our defense.
September 21st, 2014 at 1:38 PM ^
So Brandon will fire Hoke and replace him, and then get replaced himself? That seems out of order.
September 21st, 2014 at 4:02 PM ^
DB wanted to extend his contract before MSC retired, because MSC was a DB supporter. The Regents allowed this to happen, but inserted a buyout clause. They are concerned that any high profile coach would not want DB peering over their shoulder, watching game film, in the locker room, etc. Expect the firing order to be DB, then BH.
September 21st, 2014 at 4:13 PM ^
Yeah if there are questions about whether or not you want to keep your head AD and head coach, you fire the AD first so the new guy can hire a new head coach. That's how it played out at Texas, and you should expect the same to happen here.
September 21st, 2014 at 1:38 PM ^
Say what you will about Miles, but he would be a marquee hire and a guy who would lend instant credibility to the program. He'd also bring with him a recruiting network in the south. He might not be around for more than 10 years, but as long as he gets the program rolling in the right direction, his hire would be a net positive.
Seems even more likely he comes here given the struggles LSU seems to be facing this year.
September 21st, 2014 at 2:06 PM ^
I've been all about Miles for some time... But what might be one of the best selling points to him? His coordinators turn into decent Head Coaches... Look back to the Oklahoma State days... His OC? Mike Gundy - the current head coach still there. Putting a program on the field that is consistently better than ours.
Fast forward to LSU...Bo Pelini was the Defensive Coordinator for Les Miles from 2005-07 and is now a Head man... Doug Mallory is a Co-D-Coordinator at Indiana and I believe is an up-and-come-er... Cam Cameron is a name we hear a lot around here... And I think IF Les Miles were to come here, LSU would be stupid not to at least interview Cam for the HC position at LSU... Just food for thought... I love Hoke as a person, he's just a like-able guy and I've heard a lot of second hand stories about him with his in-home visits to Beyer when he was being recruited (also a PCEPer), but this coaching regime seems to just be Miles behind where they need to be...
September 21st, 2014 at 2:24 PM ^
That said, I think fans would need to calibrate their expectations for Michigan even after a possible Miles hiring. It's easy to look to one person as an instant program savior, but if the problem is systemic, even a very good coach will need time and support to fix that.
September 21st, 2014 at 2:31 PM ^
I think this guy can come in 2015 and have a minimum of 10-wins given that schedule, talent, and possible additions/subtraction a in recruiting.
September 21st, 2014 at 3:03 PM ^
I'll pitch in and buy him the best grass money can buy if he wins 10+ games the next five years in a row. It's possible he'd do it too since he's competitive in the SEC and the Big Ten let's just say is not as good as that conference.
Even if he were here for 10 years if he could make those 10 years good it may stabilize the program. Maybe we can use that time to learn, adjust, and change to be in sync with the rest of the teams.
Edit: 10+ wins for five seasons in a row is a bit of an exaggeration but I think we would see the best football since 2006 when I first became a student and fan.

I'm glad I got to read that (I guess) but you may want to shorten up what you posted, and give an excerpt of the article versus seemingly the whole article.
September 21st, 2014 at 1:49 PM ^
I'll give the OP some time to fix it how they would like before I go ahead and do it myself, but that is the rule generally. It's a respect issue more than anything else, but the goal is to leave some value in clicking the link and to avoid robbing the author of clicks.
September 21st, 2014 at 1:39 PM ^
Burn, you monster.
September 21st, 2014 at 1:40 PM ^
I didn't click the link... Was there actually more to the article that was cut and pasted or just letting us know where it came from??
September 21st, 2014 at 1:40 PM ^
Hoke is done. He can't even win at home now. Utah is a mediocre team and the game showed that. But Michigan is worse than mediocre. It's a team that is on par with Rodriguez's last team.
However, the most damning aspect for Hoke is the the loss of ticket buyers. That is hurts the bottom line. Brandon as CEO will HAVE to act.
September 21st, 2014 at 1:48 PM ^
I think the 2010 team would beat this team by two TDs. The 2014 team has a solid defense, but Michigan with Denard was historically good. And the key would be that the 2014 offense is turnover prone, and short on playmakers. I would say 2010 Michigan 27, 2014 Michigan 13.
September 21st, 2014 at 2:02 PM ^
and the offense failed against physical defenses. It would be one big pillow fight.
September 21st, 2014 at 3:46 PM ^
Finally somebody who remembers that the O had great trouble vs teams with decent defenses.

The 2010 defense was on par with App St and Miami, not ND and Utah. The 2014 team would probably win 31-24 or so.
That said, the 2008 defense was legit even though the offense sucked. If our 2014 and 2008 teams played, it would be 3-3 going into overtime.
September 21st, 2014 at 2:06 PM ^
First year Rich Rod vs 4th year Hoke.
How sad is that?
September 21st, 2014 at 2:08 PM ^
I agree that 2010 team would probably beat 2014 but your are forgetting the historic ineptitude on the defensive side of the ball for that 2010 team. The game would probably be a little closer than two touchdowns because of that.
September 21st, 2014 at 2:54 PM ^
Mike Martin, RVB and Rob would absolutely live in the backfield and have 98 running backwards all night. And I think Rich Rod would out-scheme Hoke easily to the tune of two touchdowns or more.
September 21st, 2014 at 4:46 PM ^
Are Hoke and Mattison coaching them, because the whole defense including the line was terrible in 2010. Those guys didn't really start to shine until 2011. Also, the secondary couldn't cover anybody and there would be guys running open all game even if Devin was consistently getting flushed from the pocket.
September 21st, 2014 at 3:01 PM ^
True a historically bad 2010 D and a historically good 2010 O, versus an inept offensive and solid defense for the 2014 team. The way I see it playing out is that the 2014 team has difficulty sustaining drives and keeping the ball. Fittingly, maybe the 2014 team out gains the 2010 team....

We better spring for some really good Kentucky blue grass

If Hoke had any sophistication, he would think of something new to say in midst of this gathering storm.
September 21st, 2014 at 2:05 PM ^
We just need to play better ... You want more than that?
September 21st, 2014 at 1:44 PM ^
It's very bad form to post the entirity of an Insider article on a forum. In fact, it's a breach of user agreements.
More importantly, the article contained nothing but the same speculation that we all have with some very non-newsworthy, anonymous quotes.
Third, what is the deal with avatars of half-naked chicks on this forum lately? Not that I really, care, but I do like looking at the board at work. And it's just kinda douchey. "Look at my smoking hot gurlfriend hurhurhur"
September 21st, 2014 at 2:01 PM ^
What's ridiculous is that any of these people actually think others believe that they are with attractive women despite the fact they are losers on internet boards, that those women would tolerate them being losers on internet boards, and even encourage their loserdom by letting their images be used as "avatars" on the stupid internet boards (in some apparent ploy to gain credibility, because, y'know, guy with fake girlfriend has more insights than guy without).
Assuming all those improbable leaps are in fact true, then yes it would be stupid beyond comprehension to use such an image as your "avatar." But this is the internet. Filled with liars and malcontents.

But I like to think, while he is a damn proud man to have married his wife, MGrowOld kind of uses his avatar as a bit of a promotional tool. His signature also links you to his wife's health/fitness website (which honestly has some great recipes).
