ESPN Insider: More QB controversy at Michigan

Submitted by exmtroj on
I only saw the headline, which also said "Discontent simmering in Ann Arbor" but I'm not a subscriber and I'm sure as hell not going to subscribe to something just to read one article. Does anyone know what this is all about?

Freshman quarterbacks Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson are both expected to play Saturday against Penn State, reports Ron Musselman of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09295/1007422-143.stm) The game marks the first time the Wolverines have faced a formidable opponents since Coach Rich Rodriguez's quarterback shuffle failed in the closing moments of Michigan's loss to Iowa. Forcier has said all the right things since, but all you need to do is cue up the footage from the Iowa game's closing moments, when Rodriguez had to hold Forcier back from running onto the field, to know who he thinks should be getting the ball in the crunch time moments. If Forcier struggles early and Rodriguez turns more to Robinson, watch out. Bruce Feldman Think this is interesting? Just wait. "I think playing both QBs has been a very good thing for Michigan this year and I feel like he'll keep mixing them up because it keeps defenses off balance. Both guys bring something different and it also has minimized the pressure on them. Ultimately I think Forcier is the guy because he's so good at throwing on the run. Then again, next year the real chaos begins when uber QB prospect Devin Gardner arrives. He's big, fast and smart. Rodriguez may play all three on the field at the same time."

The QB controversy BS is already off the Insider page. There's now some trumped up crap about a division in the ranks, including what is below plus a couple quotes from Det News. "Yesterday we alluded to the fact that coach Rich Rodriguez's job is safe if former coach Lloyd Carr truly is not a candidate to become Michigan's next athletic director. Angelique Chengelis of the Detroit News writes about the dissension that appears to be brewing among "Michigan Men" who are upset that Les Miles did not get the job, and others who support Rodriguez. Carr seems firmly ensconced in the former group...." That's it. Now ESPN is pulling a Free Press with multiple negative articles about our team in one morning. Garbage. STEVE PHILLIPS, ANYONE???

If that is so, how can he now be moved into the angry about Miles camp?

I know that on this board, Angelique is considered a balanced and fair reporter, but the story regarding the alleged division seems like muckraking to me, verging on gossip. The Les Miles saga is long past. Maybe there's a story in whether Carr is really interested in the AD job, but he already declared that he's not a candidate. Maybe the press wants there to be a story here, but there isn't one yet. No candidate yet = no story. It seems like all this kind of press should happen in the off-season. There's a game tomorrow. Let's keep the focus where it should be.
