ESPN features Shane Morris non-paywall article

Submitted by Humen on

Brief article/interview with committed 2013 QB Shane Morris.

Money quote:

ESPNHS: You’ve come a long way since then. What have you done to continue to improve?
Morris: In the offseason and during the winter I work out five times a week. I lift weights three days a week and the other days I’m doing core exercises. I throw three or four times a week. I’m working hard every day trying to get better. I’m just trying to reach my goals.

This kid, along with our other stellar and inspiring recruits, gets me really excited for the future of Michigan football.

He's become one of the most hyped up recruits in recent memory.  I just hope the fanbase learns to be patient just in case he isn't hitting receivers in stride from behind his back the second he sees the field...

Well Devin should provide him with at least a redshirt season so he probably wouldn't compete for the starter's role until the 2014 season when in theory he could be a redshirt Freshman. The bottom line is we aren't going to deal with the Sheridan? or Threet? QB armageddon for a very long time, if ever. I vote ever.

Does anybody think Shane Morris coach/offensive coordinator is holding him back? Only 1500 yards passing and 16 touchdowns. I have watched all of Grand Rapids Christians games this year and they have 2 QB's with over 1,000 yards passing and 13 and 10 touchdowns each. And neither of them are close to the caliber QB that shane morris is.

Shane's WRs drop a ton of passes; seems like it's an average of 6-7 passes a game.  Maybe some of those passes are due to the touch that Morris puts on the football, but QB can only do so much, and his WR corp has gotta step up and haul those catches in.  Shane's OL is average at best also; doesn't give him much time in pocket.  I wouldn't worry about it; Morris has the arm strength, mechanics, and the intanglibes to be a great one in college.

No, I don't think his coach is "holding him back."  Did you ever think that their tough schedule might be what is appearing to "hold him back" and that it might be responsible for their playing so well right now?  Also, he is a highly-rated recruit and he dominated a lot of older competition in QB camps last summer, so exactly what might his coach be "holding him back" from?

A QB's job is to win.  Period.  Stats are secondary.  Besides, if the wealth is spread around al little bit, there is less chance of an injury.  If he was being "held back," do you really think ESPN would be writing about him as a HS junior?

my point was we all know he is a superstar QB, so why arent his stats better? And my thought was maybe his offensive coordinator isnt that good. I am not trying to hate on shane morris at all. I am as pumped about him as everyone else is.

That's like comparing Michigan's quarterbacks to Hawaii's quarterbacks.  One plays in a pass happy offense against crappy competition, the other plays against stacked competition in a balanced offense. The Catholic League Central Division is always stacked.  We are getting Ross and Godin out of there after all, and are hoping for Reschke.

So you are saying the OK White is crappy competition. Even though they have 5 time defending state champion East Grand Rapids and state power Lowell in their conference? Also 3 of non-conference teams GRC played where playoff teams.

Just saying if you have a QB as good as Morris maybe you should throw a little more.

Not hating...but damed if Shane is TAILOR MADE for Hype.  Check out that pic and million dollar smile.

I hope that he can handle the intense scrutiny that will come with this hype...and that he doesnt end up like Drew Henson... not that Drew failed, but other than 3/4 of a good year at Michigan, he didnt do much and shot himself in the foot for his pro career....

Shane seems like a great kid...madison ave. will be all over him if he does anything at Michigan.

PS...Im not counting Russ Bellomy out.  The vids of how hard that kid works out are nothing short of amazing...they are over on youtube... you know...  its the guy who works hardest and is the smartest that ultimately wins as a Michigan QB... I dont know much about Shane but Bellomy impresses me with his grit.

Seriously, only 651 days until he's eligible to play as a true freshman against central michigan. I think that we need a daily count down.  There are...

You guys have hit all the main points on why his stats aren't mind blowing. With a brother on the team I've seen or heard how he's done every game. Earlier in the season they ran the ball against weaker teams, but in the catholic league their o line has been shredded and WRs are dropping 1 out of 3 good balls.

The more I read, the more I like Shane Morris. It will be very interesting to have him out there.

And kudos to ESPN for having interesting Michigan-related content in front of the paywall.

Two scary things in Shane's list of "favorites"....

He loves Adam Sandler (Luke Fickell's doppelganger plus Sandler sucks ballz) and Nike (UM is an Adidas school while OSU is still a Nike school). Clearly, Shane will be swayed to the "dark side" by these two factors.
