ESPN Coverage Map

Submitted by BlueVoix on
As this is my first time not being in Ann Arbor in a long, long time for a game against a MAC school, I'm blanking here, but is it the Thursday before they typically release the coverage map for CFB games? Related question, those of you in Pennsylvania, what is typically the experience with getting games? I'm in Pitt, so I'm worried the market is going to be Big East dominated. Or "don't care its not the Steelers" dominated. Any insight?

I believe that a game scheduled to be broadcast via ABC's regional coverage will be placed on 1 of the many ESPN channels for out-of-market locales. So if it is not on ABC where you are, check ESPN or ESPN2.

Every televised Michigan game is available nationally, thanks to the Big Ten's contract with ABC/ESPN. If it's not on your local ABC station, it will be on ESPN2 (or less commonly, ESPN) instead. Same goes for any other Big Ten team on ABC.

... I think the ABC/ESPN2 mirroring applies only to Saturday 12 noon ET and 3:30 pm ET games, but not to primetime ABC games. So, it's possible that, depending on where you live, you may not be able to see some Michigan night games (@ Iowa, for example) if your local ABC station carries another primetime game. This was how it worked last year; I believe it is the same this year, but I could be mistaken.

You're right, doesn't apply to night games. I forget those even exist since we aren't allowed to acknowledge them at Michigan. I suppose that means you could get Florida@LSU instead of this year's game @Iowa in some parts, but it would be available on Gameplan. For WMU though, anyone with cable/satellite can see it.

Thanks to both, that makes a lot of sense, but seeing as I've never had to deal with the game not being the marquee event in town, I've usually ignored the commentary on this.

Like ^they^ said, you'll get the game on ABC or ESPN2, no matter what. In my fruitless (and pointless) search for a coverage map, I found this handy TV schedule for the entire season, which will apparently provide links to future coverage maps as they become available. HT to the LSU freeks!

That is an absolutely necessary bookmark! Thanks to LSUfootball.net. On a somewhat related note, I'm trying to decide about this saturday: I was given a ticket that I otherwise couldn't afford for Clemson-MTSU. With my work schedule, I won't be free to attend many games in person at all this season, since I typically am working. So, should I stay at home and watch the opener vs. WMU, or miss most of the game (Clemson's a 6pm kick off) and go to a game in person? Oh, did I mention I'd be going with my wife, father-in-law, and sister-in-law who are Clemson alums? My feelings toward Clemson are largely apathetic, except for when they recruit Taj Boyd away from Ohio State... I'd like to go to a game in person, and I couldn't have otherwise afforded these tickets...

Tough call. Here's something to think about. What would be more exciting to you: Watching Michigan kick off for the first time in 10 or so months? Or being at a live game? In addition, while you are at the Clemson game, would you be kicking yourself for not being home at the game? Or would you regret it more if you were at home, instead of being out watching live football? I think those are the key questions.
