Clockgate is on, 2001 UM vs MSU game. I advise you don't flip past it, unless you would like to get especially pissed off.
this may be of some local interest
watched that game at hooters with my dad...worst time i have ever had there
I still remember my dad breaking the remote after that last play.
was on BTN last night. i had to turn it off before i lost my mind again like i did the night of that game. i have never been so mad after a game.
Was at that game sitting in that endzone and started celebrating when smoker spiked the ball. We all thought the game had ended. Little did we know...
PS Our D-end still got held the bejeezus out of on that play (Hobson? Foote? Don't remember)
I believe it was Larry Stevens, but I could be mistaken.
After subjecting myself to that horror (for some ungodly reason) I realize it was Stevens. So blatant.
I remember watching the game, but we had the game muted and we had Beckman and Brandstadder on the radio. I remember listening to them saying, what the clock should have run out.....why is there still one second left. After the play where we were held horribly they said this game was flat out stolen from the Michigan Wolverines....Theivery! Then I had to go for a drive to clear my head and swear countless times in my car.
I watched this game on a handheld tv on a bus coming back from Chicago for a middle school band trip. The tv was really fuzzy so we couldn't really see the clock well and all of us were gathered around counting down. We hit 0 before Smoker spiked the ball and we all had thought Michigan had won. I will never forget that game. The holding on the last play on Larry Stevens was ridiculous as well.
but I love the fact that this is a middle school band story.
And I have never seen people so angry after a Michigan loss in my life. I witnessed one of my friends break a table right down the middle. Then another friend picked up the pieces of it and started breaking those. We were treading dangerously close to having a miniature East Lansing riot, right there in Ann Arbor.
I responded to your reply because I have to +1 you for the Larry Stevens hold. I met him once like 2 or 3 years after he graduated, and I brought it up to him. He was still pissed. I still am too. That part of it doesn't get enough play- that shit was absolutely egregious. Almost as bad as the ridiculous clock operation.
not the first game stolen ask desmond howard! you can see with the dvr that 1 second last forever! what happend to jermaine gonzalez sorry for spelling
Jermaine Gonzalez was the JV Football coach at Orchard Lake St. Marys. He has another full time job as well, I just can't remember what it is right now.
Don't worry guys.. Tomorrow Denard Robinson is gonna change the past. Coming to a theater near you. 2001 won't be the same.
Can we get a MS Paint of this robbery?
Tomorrow my friend. The newest Back to the Future movie hits tomorrow. I have already said to much.
I was there. The people I was with were seriously afraid a vein in my head was going to burst.
There are many games in which a close call by the officials determines the outcome. When it goes against you, you hate to see it, but it's just part of football. The refs are doing their job, and sometimes they make mistakes. It sucks, but you move on (or, you remember it until the end of time and keep bringing it up...).
What happened in 2001 is different. The State clockkeeper admitted afterward he stopped the clock in time to give them one more play. It was a deliberate action undertaken by a fan of one of the teams to change the outcome. It was cheating on a level I have never seen or heard of in college football. I hope the Michigan State football team wallows in failure for a hundred years after what they got away with.
It was most certainly different. So much so that the Big Tenleven changed the timekeeping rules prior to the 2002 season to require a Big 10 official to run the clock. It would've been nice if they'd suspended Spartan Bob for a game, but no such luck.
You know it's pretty reprehensible when the league legislates your cheating out of existence in the offseason.
Its the clock curse! Dantonio's complex can be traced back the clock issues. Muahahaha Muahahaha Glad I have figured out why he seems like such a douche. Him and his clocks.
part of the game though......and it was a super competitive college football game.
We killed ourselves with personal fouls before it got to that point...but the fact remains: THIEVERY.
