espn 3 next week

Submitted by JohnnyBlue on

will it be blacked out for us in michigan?   I have a football party at my place and am worried that it will be blacked out.  Was it only blacked out this week locally because it was on ABC? or because it was the local game? it wasn't a big deal this week since I get ABC, but I don't have normal ESPN right now.

The blackout was for ABC only.  ESPN 3 games that are ESPN/2/Urebroadcasts are not blacked out unless you do not have a provider that covers it.

ESPN's clubhouse says its on ESPN3: http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/130/michigan-wolverines

The game on ESPN3 was blacked out for me today because I'm in Michigan and it was on local TV

I would guess since it's a national TV game (i.e. Gameday feature night game) no blackout, but you might want to play it save and spring for a better TV package/ hit up a bar.

ESPN 3 isn't the quality that I would want to have for a party. I mean, it's fine for watching at home, but it's usually pretty grainy and sometimes it cuts out.  Just sayin'...

This is actually a very important question for next weeks game.  We are planning a huge tailgate party next weekend and half of the people will not be going into the game.  Seeing as it's on ESPN we are hoping like hell it's on ESPN3 connected to TV to watch the game.  Anyone have any insight on this?

Does anyone know if ESPN3 works overseas?  It should, but I am supposed to go to NZ and Australia next month and will miss a couple of games if it does not work.

I actually thought about declining the speaking engagements due to that fact that it is in the middle of the Michigan season..

I can say with 100% certainty that it doesn't work most places overseas.  ESPN3 only works for internet providers that have a contract with ESPN, and I don't know of any international ones that do - though I haven't been to NZ/AUS to test it.  I get frustrated each early Sunday morning in Korea trying to find a good stream, bithcing about not getting ESPN3.  Veetle.com will often have a HD stream.  Next week for ND, I expect they will.

Anyone know of a work around to get ESPN3 internationally?

I am expat in Russia. Astrill works great. You can sign up for a free trial that may be good enough to last you through your trip.  If you are going to pay for something, you should at least pay for something that will let you get to other US sites too (like Hulu, etc)

Otherwise, my brother has hooked up my Slingbox in his house for me... HIGHLY recommended for anyone who travels. decent enough picture from all the way around the world.

There is ESPN america via satellite tv if available and it will show the game but not until 8 hours afterwards (for the UM/ND game, others will be live). I can't wait that long. I know I would spoil it.
