Wow.. I'm pretty surprised. Wish him the best of luck. I think this actually makes some people here happy, and our OL class is still going to be amazing.

Hopefully he does very well at NW, just not when he plays Michigan

I always want Northwestern to nab top end talent. I'm always impressed with their academics and one has to love Pat Fitzgerald's passion for the program. I'm hoping they can land him. I guess I always hope for the best for their program (except when playing us) since building a successful program there is much tougher to do than at the UofMs, Alabamas, and USCs of the world.

It's always nice to see a recruit who actually puts academics first. Wish him the best of luck for all but one game per season...

PA 3* OT Adam DePietro committed to NW earler this evening so I guess Olson figured he'd better sign on fast before his spot was gone.

With Peat probably gone and Thurston sounding like he's Nebraska bound that leaves Diamond, Banner , Garnett, Kalis, Bisnowaty, and Bars. I think PSU leads for Bars and I still have a tough time seeing Banner or Garnett coming to UM. I think they get Diamond and Kalis and then it gets interesting. They could keep chasing  Bisnowaty but I myself would prefer to stick at 5 OL. Remember AJ Williams could shift there if need be. I'd use that spot instead to take that extra high caliber defensive lineman. They told O'Brien they were only taking 1 more DT. I would now take 2.

FWIW, this is a story about a group of six recruits from Tennessee announcing together. One of them is Blake Bars, and the one thing that all of them have in common is Vanderbilt as a finalist. They're saying it could be a HUGE day for Vandy, including Drae Bowles.

I'd love to have Diamond and Kalis, then wait for one of either Garnett, Banner, Peat, Bisnowaty, or another position.

According to the Scout/NW site. (Not behind a paywall)  It appears that the two of them became Facebook friends and decided to Call Fitzgerald collectively and commit.  Probably made Fitzgerald's week.

Sounds like he made good on his commitment to academics and it wasn't just recruiting-speak.  Good luck to him at Northwestern...except when he plays us, of course.

So many people happy a recruit committed somewhere else. Good luck to him, seems like a great kid, but everyone better hope the recruiting services are right and he doesn't blow up (in our own division) and make us regret not getting him.

I was thinking the same thing. Recruiting is going great but it seems to have made a lot of fans seem to think we will get anyone we decide to go after and it is a foregone conclusion that we will get Diamond and Kalis so we should slow play some recruits regarded as lower talent. The only thing I would be worried is that the coaches slow play them, they go elsewhere, and then we lose out on the more heralded kids as well.

But I wasn't looking for a lot of gnashing of teeth over him going to an arch rival. But the just under the surface glee that "whew, he's not tying up one of our valuable scholarships that will for sure go to a higher rated player who will be better because he's higher rated" seems less classy, and more like a backhanded compliment. Like "oh, good for you...you'll do well in the remedial class".

I was really hoping to get this kid.  Seems like he has a good head on his shoulders.  Northwestern is a good fit.  Best of luck Mr. Olson.

I figured that he'd stay local and go with Boston College. I think Northwestern is a much better choice though, so good for him.

Good luck, Eric - I'll pull for you (most of the time  ;-)   )

I wish the kid the best of luck. This class is already a pretty damn good O line haul. Throw Diamond and Kalis in the mix and you won't hear me complain one bit.

Rats, I had two schools in play here.

Have to take your hat off to a kid who sets up his recruiting so it comes down to a bunch of the country's best academic schools.  Can't go wrong with the list he had.

no need to wish him any luck b/c he won't need it.  he'll create his future success (both on the field and in the classroom) via hard work and determination. Cheers Eric.

Good luck and I wish you well Mr. Olson.  You made a wise choice over all for the academic side of STUDENT-athlete

Also, I wanna give props to everyone on this board.  It takes a quality fanbase to congratulate and wish a young man well even though he did not choose our school.  This just shows how much above TSIO we are.  Those fans down there were wishing for a young man to end his career before making it to Michigan, pathetic *spit*. And here we are wishing this man well.

Again, Good Luck Eric
