Equipment: Michigan to sport adidas "Shockwave" socks on the road

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Slow day on the board if you aren't wrapped in "LeBron: The Musical Circus".

I've known this for awhile now so I figured I'd post it just as a minor equipment update.

This season, Michigan as well as the other adidas schools will sport the new adidas Shockwave socks.

Here is the verification from the same adidas catalog that I found last year's Team Speed socks in-

Better look at the front and back of the Shockwave socks.

These are the Team Speed socks Michigan wore last year in road games. Somewhat similar to what they wore in the Cowboys Classic in 2012-

I've noticed that adidas 2014-15 player gear and equipment theme has to do with electricity.

For example, here is the Aftershock hoodie.

Only custom designs for the schools that let their players model are in there. KU and Louisville.

The shirt you're talking about was worn as a special in 2011 vs state.

Since then, Michigan has had a home and road undershirt in 2012 and a standard one last year since everyone loved the 2011 shirts.

I kinda like that hoodie. But I bet I won't like the price of it. Why would I spend $60 on a hoodie when I can probably get one on ebay for like 30 or less? When did hoodies become that expensive anyway?

They should wear lightning socks, Zebra pants, and some Fucking 80s nut hugging shorts. If not the shorts zebra pants. They are so Fucking cool! Thank you Adiduhs.

More of the same from adidas. There's no doubt nike put out some awful stuff too, but they had a couple really nice designs for each line too. This stuff is so walmart'y. That shirt says "Respect He Maize and Blue". What?

The yellow jacket is decent and convenient for maize outs. Of course, it's 80 bucks, but since I won't be buying much gear it makes it affordable. Way to go, adidas!

Nike and Adidas are one in the same. They all produce gimmicky stuff like pro combat uniforms and rise to the occasion t-shirts. I don't know why a fan of any program would want stripes and polka dots on their uniforms. What's wrong with our actual uniforms? I respect PSU and USC for not letting adidas/UA/Nike force them to wear clowniforms.

You should be trying every day. Don't get complacent because you have one date lined up months from now. That's absurd. If you invested half of the effort into that that you do Michigan athletics, you'd stand a much better chance of getting some.

Priorities.

You're a normal looking guy, you just lack confidence. Fake it if you have to, it doesn't matter as long as you sell it. I have friends who could be mistaken for hobo's, yet they have decent looking women. You just have to try, kiddo.

Idk what there is for anyone to get bent out of shape here. Adidas, Nike, etc... they all market the same. Our players are wearing socks. They have to wear some type of socks. And the people who make them are gonna name them and try to make money selling them. Nothing upsetting here.

Not only was the uniform battle lost years ago but these are SOCKS, so whatever.

Having said that, it *is* becoming a general annoyance that the Michigan AD appears encouraging, or at least accepting, of the same cookie cutter designs Adidas gives to each of its twenty-something schools.

While I'd prefer a cleaner, more traditional look, I'd settle for (and would be much happier with) anything equally odd as these lightning bolts if it were at least being promised that no one but Michigan would have access to it. Identity is valuable, and these copycat designs mute some fraction (albeit small) of Michigan Football's visible identity.

Do the people screaming to ditch Adidas realize that if Michigan was a Nike school or an Under Armour school we'd still have this same exact post with Nike or Under Armour's version of the super sock?  It'd probably be the exact same design as all of the other Nike or Under Armour schools.

is for MGoBlog to make their own socks and jerseys. Then Michigan can switch to MGoJerseyAttire and all will be right in the world.

Was going to label this /s, but now it actually sounds intriguing. How much money would it take to make this happen Seth? Can it be funded with a single Kickstarter?

For the Adidas haters, Bill Martin did ensure that Adidas has to pay us the most of any college. I'm not usually "dolla dolla bill, y'all" but that's a pretty good deal. I honestly like most of the uniforms puts out, even if they aren't quite up there with Nike.

In Thee and Out, Denard Robinson said one of his favorite perks for playing for Michigan was getting a fresh pair of Twin City socks for practice/gameday. He said they are the best socks in all the land.

Why would we even think of deviating?
