Equipment: Block M thigh pads are real

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Awhile ago, there was a thread posted by a user that found a tweet saying Michigan would be wearing logo'd thigh pads.

No one, including myself, had any idea if this was legit or what these would actually look like on a player.

Well, they're real. Hopefully they won't be worn for games.

God no... As someone who likes the alternate Uni's and most new age stuff, these are just plain ridiculous

Wow that is kind of a stark contrast to the throwback movement that Harbaugh is making (real maize, stickers, 1974 road Unis) it looks like his pockets got the mumps.

My guess is short of the obligitory close-up the TV cameras will invertibly shoot of them early in our first few games nobody will notice they're even there.

You're probably right. Realistically, the players wouldn't notice...but I was thinking more on the lines of having an elevated surface that players were unaccustomed to. 99/100 plays, it would be fine....until that 1 time it surprisingly catches their hand or forearm.

since the first time this was posted, I have wondered if these Ms might actually help people tackle our team easier. the raised surface provides a good place for finger tips to grip when wrapping up. yes, I know it's a minute thing, but just as shoulder pads have gotten smaller, jerseys have become smaller/tighter, etc. equipment has evolved to make it harder to wrap someone up...this seems to be a step backwards.

"Hopefully they won't be worn for games."

I understand you're wishing that it be true, but that makes zero sense. Why would they have branded pads if they weren't wearing them for games?

IMO, it's not like they're blue Ms so the chances of you seeing them from the stands or on TV are slim. Sometimes the players gotta have their own swag.

I was freaked out by this initially and still think they're dumb. However, I was watching a replay of last years Sparty vs Baylor game, and Sparty had white pants and the same pads (but with an 'S' imprint I believe. It wasn't as bad as I thought.
