In 1994, the Violent Femmes did the same thing to us, but worse. They had a concert at Hill Auditorium, on campus, the night that we lost to Wisconsin, and trolled us with the Wisconsin fight song.

I am just impressed that somebody knows the Wisconsin fight song. Something about Wisconsin, and then jumping around, I think.
This just made me like the Red Hot Chili Peppers way more than I did before.

used to hang out at the Reptile House in GR. I've met him and Anthony on a few occasions. Never really got into the peppers, but always respected them musically, kinda like Rush.
Kiedis is from Grand Rapids, and Smith is from metro Detroit suburbs.

That's actually Chad Smith in the video, tRHCP's drummer, who grew up in Michigan.
Couldn't resist pointing out that Scott's real last name isn't 'Steiner', it's Richsteiner. HIs brother graduated before him, I think in '83, and his real name is Rob. If my memory serves Rob signed a pro wrestling contract for close to 6 figures, which 30 yrs ago was real money. Rob's stage name was of course 'Rick Steiner'. He wrestled at Michigan at 191 but got so big that he ended up wrestling super-heavy. Scotty wrestled at 177. Bounced with them at Charlie's, had classes and more than a few beers with them during my years there. A bit of Michigan trivia and Go Blue!
I actually dated his cousin a few yrs ago in bay city. i can say all the men in that family are huge dudes. Would not want to pick a fight with any of them.
She actually got us backstage at a WCW Nitro event when the came to Saginaw and I can say that even though he seems like a lunatic on camera Scotty was actually a rather gracious guy, still wouldn't want to piss him off though.
One night at Charlie's I say to a group of 10 guys at about 2 a.m., 'Time to go home'. One of them says something that wasn't 'Yes sir'. Robbie takes 8 of them, I take 2, all 10 gone very, very quickly. You could indeed have a conversation with Scottie. Robbie's fuse was much shorter, but that was because he was eating dynabol like fat chicks eat m & m's. Thus did he go from wrestling at 191 to around 260. That stuff wasn't even illegal back then.
I caught Chad Smith's drumstick at the Detroit show a couple weeks ago. I didn't realize that I should display it with my Michigan memorabilia. I wonder if there is a good pic out there that I could find of Chad Smith in Michigan gear from the Columbus show to go with the drum stick.
He loves the state of Michigan and always talks about it when he gets the opportunity.
For example, Here's a video interview where he talks about learning the drums, growing up in Detroit, etc. It's conducted at Hunter House (great burger place in Birmingham).

I loved how once "The Victors" started, a uniform exuberant cheer started to get mixed with a chorus of equally exuberant booing. It brought a smile to my face to hear Buckeye nation get trolled some by a major touring band like RHCP. In celebration, I believe I shall put some RHCP in for the drive home this evening. Smith talked about growing up in Detroit and attending concerts at the Joe when RCHP played here on the 1st. Then he talked about how big a Red Wings fan he is and called Nick Lindstrom on stage and the place went crazy. Probably some of the loudest cheering I've ever heard.
This is the best news since Poggi Committed....I hope some future recruits are big RHCP fans.....I'm glad Michigan produces good bands like RHCP, and Columbus, Ohio produces O.A.R, the crappy DMB knockoff band that totally sucks. (probably an ignorant statement, but I don't care).
