Epic In-State Rivalry Week (Smack Talkin Time!)

Submitted by Red_Lee on

Yo Lil' Bro!

Time for some predictions. I'm sayin 45-42 as we win on a last second FG (LOL right?).

Hopefully GameDay will be there. I'm makin the trip down from Marquette to go to the game. This has the fixins of an uber-hyped game that will surely deliver.

I'm givin Denard an over/under of 330 yds of total offense. I'm giving MSU a total offense of 410. We really need Shaw and/or Fitz back to give us some more options at RB (not saying Smith couldn't do well). I could easily see Denard shatter his 502 mark if this game is back and forth, and he hits some downfield passes. I'm so excited to go to the game.

LET'S GO BLUE! HATE SOME SPARTY DONKEYS!

I believe it's "EPIC, RIVALRY WEEK". In order for it to be "EPIC RIVALRY WEEK," the rivalry would have to be epic. Our record against State and OSU being our EPIC RIVALRY suggests otherwise.

Yes, MSU sucks so much that it pays to be a grammar Nazi.

I am scheduled to be at a three day conference at the James B Henry Center in East Lansing.  I plan on rocking major maize and blue and responding to any taunts I get.  I will also creep around the Sparty statue late at night looking suspicious in my M apparel.  Maybe I can lure somebody into handing me a beatdowns and get a lawsuit out of it.

I was just perusing the RCMB and I was a little taken aback at all the talk of killing UM fans on sight, with one individual threatening to rip out his UM fan brother's larynx.  The site claims to be moderated, but there really doesn't appear to be any effective moderation going on there.  On a side note:  RCMB sucks.  Boards are difficult to navigate, there is a bunch of stuff behind pay walls, and their posting format gives any post an equal amount of space, meaning that a one sentence post (the average Sparty capability) has this huge blank area surrounding it.

I was at this game, and I'm sad to say I was way too drunk to remember most of it. I do remember each of Braylon's epic catches, though, and practically shoving my even-more-drunker MSU friend down the stairs once the Braylon show was in full force.

We had so many MSU friends in town....hah, some of them got in their cars and left right after the game without even staying the night like they had originally planned. They were SO PISSED.

When did that game start that it was SO dark out. I know they didn't use to have lights in the stadium, so it must have just gone on a LONG time. Right?

I personally witnessed the frequent use of that response by Sparty faithful following that game.  Could you imagine a UM fan saying "well..we would have wone in 08 and 09 if Mallet had not transferred and Manningham not left etc."  Hell no.

I don't have anything to contribute to this post, considering there was no question; howevaaaaaaaaa, I just love  going out to the bars and talking about college football, particularly about Michigan.  How many of you have gotten the question "Seriously, where did this player come from...who is he?  Overnight he's a heisman candidate?!"

that I have a drunken smack-talking State gal nearby me next week as I did at the Braylon game. You can just imagine how charming (and loud) she was until Braylon started catching bushels of TD passes. By the end of OT she was crying the proverbial tears of unfathomable sadness. And I was happy.

MSU? Michigan State?

They still have a football program?  I have been out of state for a while and you never hear them mentioned outside of MSM.

Can't wait! I'll be at the golf course at 7 in the morning having breakfast, Gameday after that *crosses fingers* , then back to the tailgate for more drinks and food before kickoff. I just wish we were playing one of our rivals.

Big Saturday coming up. In the morning my little brother and I are going to hit the courts. He knows the deal.

Is a closet MSU fan, but I'm forcing her to wear a Michigan shirt. I'm traveling from (now home) SoCal back to Ann Arbor for the game. I already alerted all my friends that she was a traitor, so hopefully they give her plenty of sh!t.

I fully expected MSU to get their hats handed to them by Wiscy yesterday.  This game looks a lot closer to me now than it did then, but I still think Michigan has too much on offense for MSU.  MSU's main stategy will be to try to take Denard out of the game with late and dirty hits.  If they fail to do so, they are in big trouble.

I see them, like Indiana, having early success against the MIchigan defense, but fading on both sides of the ball in the fourth quarter as they usually do.  I know MSU has played well in the fourth quarter this year, but I am looking at the ND and Wiscy games as outliers.  I will give this one to Michigan, 52-35.  Yes: Michigan will kick a rare field goal on Saturday.

As for Denard, I see no reason to believe he won't continue his Heisman march against MSU.  I think he will have over 400 yards of total offense again, but more of it will come from passing this time as MSU tries traditional methods to stuff the run all day.

On Friday, the guy making my burrito was an MSU fan and he knows that I am a UofM fan.  He told me that Indiana would win at 3:30 and then MSU would beat UofM next weekend.  Yet, he didn't know who MSU played or the time.  I find that odd that he knew when and who we played, but not his own team.

He is also confident that Cousins will put up better stats than Denard in the BigTen season.  We'll see.

I have a hard time taking a school seriously when they have a Wikipedia entry for rioting that is not due to some "noble" cause such as civil rights, protests against abuses, or anything remotely with a meaning.  You lose to Duke, you riot.  You lose to UNC, you riot.  You beat OSU, you riot.  We get it - you cannot handle success OR failure well.

Also, I found this picture while flipping through the old blogspot MGoBlog site, and thought it was appropriate.

Am I the only one who caught this part of the Wikipedia entry?

the students attempted to turn over the ambulance that came to help a burn victim of the bonfire. In addition, store window fronts were bashed in, including the Taco Bell window where a student made himself a taco.

Ah, yes, Michigan State students.

I blame the rioting win or lose, on attempts from several years ago to emulate Michigan's successful football program.  They sought out the wisdom of Lloyd Carr but, unfortunately, could only remember two lines from Lloyd Carr's favorite poem, If by Kipling.  Undeterred, however, they follow those two lines in a style that only State fans could.

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same

Illinois is close to state in terms of stench on a normal day, but when the winds change direction and start blowing that Ag school farm crap stench north towards downtown EL, there is no worse place to be. I worked one summer during high school at MSU's engineering bldg. and the smell was atrocious, especially on the hot days when the cow crap would boil.

I love how everyone just shuns MSU like they suck.  Then if they beat us the same people just make excuses for why we lost.

MSU is the most balanced team we may see this season.  They have the best defense of any team we have played so far this year coupled with an offense that can run with power, finesse, speed, and agility.  They're coming off a win against a top 11 team  and have a coach who's dying wish would be to beat Michigan.  The past is exactly that, the past.  At present MSU has been a better team then us for a few seasons now and we are the ones that need this game more then them.  I respect all the opponents Michigan plays because with a defense like ours, you have to.

We need to get the ball first and go down and score instead of vice versa.  Each time we defer or go on defense first we start from behind and that's not great for momentum one bit.  We have to pull out all the stops against these boys this year and if our defense can pull out an ND like performance and we can get some pressure on Cousins then I like our chances.
