EMU headed to Popeyes Bahamas Bowl

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Great for EMU. They were being lectured to drop athletics in the offseason on HBO and respond by going to their second-ever bowl game.

All 4 FBS teams from MI will go to a bowl game this year.

They'll face Old Dominion in a 1pm game on 12/23.

If you really want to support them, I think instead of 'crowdfunding,' maybe you can just buy one or more tickets, even if you don't plan to go.

Although Bahamas in December... Not.  Too.  Shabby.

Happy for them. After years of irrelevance and futility, it's nice to see them be rewarded as a program. Few better places to go for a bowl game than the Bahamas.

If their HC turns in another successful year next year, maybe picks up another win or two, he'll be on the radar for some Power 5 gigs. As of now, there is probably no harder place in the country to win football games in than EMU.

...thereby guaranteeing that, at most, a few hundred EMU alums will be able to attend their first bowl game in decades. How freaking stupid...

People complain about this far too much.  Yes, this does dilute the glamour of the "bowl game" hype, but are you really going to rail against having more college football to watch during (what was) a dead period in the season?  Also, this gives the players and coaches more time to do what they love (and get exposure).  There are certainly some financial problems this brings up for many schools (and getting their fans to travel), but that is more a fundamental problem for all bowl games - not just the newer ones.

I think they should change the rules so that only teams with 7 wins make bowls, but I agree that the complaints about this are incredibly stupid. You might as well argue that there shouldn't be any college football games played that don't potentially impact the national championship, it's basically an argument for watching the NFL instead.

Grand Valley will be playing postseason football, but Northern Michigan had a 3-8 season.  Their coach should be fired for that kind of performance.  They should be banished from whatever league they are in.  Maybe they should have played Rutgers to pad their record.

I'm thrilled for EMU for sure but I wish it wasn't such an expensive bowl to go to.  People were fed up with how much the football program cost before.  It's going to be a lot more this year.

But then all they give you is a plastic spork. How are you supposed to eat blackened naked tenders with a spork? You can't use your fingers like the crispy tenders because you get that blackened seasoning dust all over your fingers.

I probably won't watch the game.

This is awesome for EMU.  Wasn't WMU in the Bahamas Bowl last year or the year before?  I think that just about guarantees an undefeated 2017 season for Eastern!
