He's got a Jerry Gergich situation downstairs.
The nutty Michigan coverage isn't so much about Harbaugh as it is a signal to the Big Ten that Fox wants to party.
He's got a Jerry Gergich situation downstairs.
English's remark about not wanting kids from female-headed households always bothered me, especially at a place like EMU where you can expect to be recruiting a lot players from poor urban neighborhoods. I guess I would have a lot more sympathy for English if I felt like he was giving chances to a lot of hard-luck kids, since you're not going to win much at EMU anwyay. But ever since that remark I've basically been like "to hell with Ron English."
Assuming the EMU "braintrust" stops listening to Lloyd Carr the first call they should make is to Dino Babers at Eastern Illinois. The guy is in his 2nd year at the FCS school and has them ranked #2 in the entire division. He also runs a fun offense that will put butts in seats.
What offense you ask? Baylor's offense I answer. He was the receivers coach under Art Briles for a couple of seasons. And he's taken the fun to EIU. And last, but (unfortunately) not least, Dino is black. Yeah I know. A guy named Dino Babers is black? Its true. If EMU gets a brain and hires Babers EMU will have a bigger electricity bill because the scoreboard will go crazypants.
I would like to see hoke give a call to ron english and give him a coaching position on the defense.i personally liked him when he was at michigan before. He could help out and maybe toughen up some of these boys..im in #hireronenglish..for real
You can't just add coaches, we are at the limit of the number of coaches we can have on staff. Which coach do you suggest firing (and not replacing, so don't say Borges/Funk)?
to Oklahoma and Hoke took his position over himself?
Roy Manning was hired to coach LBs
It's not his fault but taking the job from the start was a terrible idea. Emu has never been somewhat competitive not have they ever been able to get fans to the game. Add that to some of the worst facilities in the country and u have a program that will always be at the bottom. Whoever takes that job next is an idiot especially considering they don't even pay that much. Hopefully he gets a d coordinator job and tries his luck again in 4-5 years
350,000 for 5 years straight. So, So many people would take that
Ya but how much was does the average d coordinator make at the BCS level hard for me to believe he would run to emu for a 100000 dollar raise if that
You know how many coaches "dream" it is to be a head coach. It's a hard thing to turn down. All english had to do was be below average for 5 years, and he had a contract extention waiting for him. He's average for 5years, and shoot, they damn near might build a statue for him. He failed so badly, because he sucked, and sucked badly. Always seemed that he coached to stay close and not to win, and he even failed at staying close. He is up there with Mike stock as worst EMU coach ever.
That's really the only explanation he saw an opportunity and took it. Too bad he couldn't see the hole he fell into
But if you're the coach that can turn that ship around, you can pretty much write your ticket anywhere else.
Craziest thing is that they are the only school in the Mac other than umass (only second season in the conference) that hasn't been to a bowl game since joining the Mac.
Even crazier was that they went to a bowl game in 1987 when they were in the MAC.
I don't understand why everyone remembers English wih such fondness. He is not a good coach. He couldn't stop a running QB if his life depended on it. Who was the DC for app state? Ron English.
Ya but we also remember 2006. A defensive coordinator is not judged on 1 season good or bad so I hold judgement on him
In 2006 we had a ridiculous front 7 but AGAIN couldn't stop a mobile QB (Troy Smith) or even a non-mobile QB, when we got bombed by USC in the Rose Bowl. And don't forget the beat down from Oregon in 2007. And don't forget that in 2006 he inherited a bunch of future NFLers on that line.
He couldn't OSU to under 39 had some crappy linebacker covering OSUs future NFL wide receivers. He is responsible for the worst loss in the history of the program. Let that sink in.
That man didn't have it and, again, I don't understand why anyone remembers him as anything other than a failure. Sure, the first 11 games of 2006 were fun, but when we finally played some real competition, we were exposed like woah.
EDIT: future NFLers in that front seven.
I sincerely hope you are not one who suggested that Rodriguez be given more time. Based on your comments about English (who was by most accounts a good not great d.c.) I gotta think that RR was a pee wee coach at best!
Are you saying the 2006 loss to Ohio State is the "worst loss in the history of the program?"
You can't put the app st game all on English the team was breaking in a lot of new starters on defensive and we were caught napping. Plus the 2007 defense rebounded well and had a good finish
was a pocket passer for OSU in 2006. When he took over as the starter in 2004 they used in legs, but by 2006 he very rarely ran the ball except on scrambles.
Never forget Ron English's "deer in headlights" expression on the sideline anytime we faced a mobile qb. His defenses did well against average to below average offenses but got shredded against good competition, albeit with SEVERAL NFL players. He did not make solid adjustments IMO either. I thought he took advantage of several great players, he had his moments but in general I felt he was over his head as a d-coordinator at a d-1 school.
And some people wanted him for the UM job because he was a Michigan man and had one good season.
Feel bad for Coach Ron but I expected big(ger) things from that lot considering the 6-6 mark last season. Unless they lost a lot, they've underachieved greatly. Hope he catches on somewhere as a coordinator or something. Really like him.
The 6-6 record was in 2011 and EMU was 3-18 since, but yeah, after that record I thought he had them headed in the right direction.
Some idiot on this site is going to propsose we replace Hoke with English. Count on it.
Hey, I have an idea: We should replace Hoke with English.
Yeah, how about no?
Coach. Too bad is was at Eastern. That is one program that it is impossible to be successful at.
I'd like to see Mike Hart land at Michigan.
Wasnt he a secondary coach before a dc..what about a dline spot hoke is responsible now..idk..go blue
Punctutation is a fancy new trend. You should try it sometime.
It was EMU. Who's going to be able to win there? They should be happy with 3 or 4 wins a season.
English didn't win 3-4 games a year
Harkema did fine.
I think a coach can win there.....but I'm not sure what it will take.
Or is it related to any off-field issues or ongoing investigation(s)?
Seems like an odd time to relieve English of his duties under ordinary circumstances. Brutally hard on kids who committed to him and who have devoted years to that program. With games yet to be played.
We are used to these things as football-personnel chess moves in the press. Like trading for a second-round draft pick. But these are real lives we are talking about.
Especially when he's three weeks removed from helping his team through one of their own being murdered the day before a game. Something is odd here.
I don't know if I agree with our opinions fully! But you certainly hold them with great enthusiasm! There's something to be said for that I suppose!
