"Elephant tusk" piping gone on road jerseys?
I've noticed that on a picture tweeted awhile ago, it appears the large Maize (or elephant tusk-like) piping on both sides of the road jerseys are gone.
More to back up that it is, on FootballFanatics they have a new Michigan authentic road jersey that looks exactly like the ones pictured above-

Does anyone think it's cool to show off the logo on the glove anymore, or is it forced on them by overzealous photographers?
August 21st, 2012 at 3:07 PM ^
Only about as cool as the British subjecting us to Russell Brand in the Closing Ceremonies. In other words, no. But the kids probably love it, I know mine would.

The jerseys we wore against NW were ideal
August 21st, 2012 at 3:07 PM ^
Those had piping.
August 21st, 2012 at 3:16 PM ^
Illinois: piping + tusks. NW: piping minus tusks. MSU: bumbleclowns. Sugar Bowl: Whatever those were. What did we wear against Iowa? Is it possible we pulled a subtle Oregon and wore 13 different uniforms?
August 21st, 2012 at 3:36 PM ^
The uniforms were getting shredded by defenders against NW. Several players appeared to switch back to last year's jerseys at half-time of that game and then continued to wear them the rest of the year.

Regular piping or elephant tusk piping?
August 21st, 2012 at 3:17 PM ^
I actually think that this jersey looks great. Piping/no piping, I don't care. It just looks good.
August 21st, 2012 at 3:19 PM ^
Loved the TechFits. Just didn't work right.
August 21st, 2012 at 9:33 PM ^
that it won't be noticable from the stands/on tv
August 21st, 2012 at 3:21 PM ^
Take the piping off that jersey, and its perfect.
Now if they can find someway to get the maize right, seems like it'll never happen though.
I was watching the Penn State 05 Game, in comparison to now the "maize" we have looks horrible.

are belong to us.

late 90's early 2000 road unis with the number on the shoulder and block M on the sleeve. good blend of maize and blue.
August 21st, 2012 at 3:12 PM ^
was a nice road look.
August 21st, 2012 at 3:29 PM ^
Every road jersey since then has taken the look downhill.
August 21st, 2012 at 6:21 PM ^
For those who like the above uniform what year did you graduate high school?
I like it too, but I'm guessing its just because it was during my era. Music also started to suck shortly after I graduated high school in 1997.
August 22nd, 2012 at 10:46 AM ^
'97 here too. I've got an old school Navarre 16 in this style that I'll never get rid of.
August 21st, 2012 at 3:29 PM ^
Loved this look.
August 21st, 2012 at 5:51 PM ^
I love the Block M on the sleeves these unis were awesome!
August 21st, 2012 at 6:28 PM ^
No question, the 1997 road jerseys are the best ever. And not just because that team was so good. They are just the best looking the team has ever worn. No stupid piping. Nice allocation of block M's. Plus Woodson AND Brady wore them. I wish they would go back to that look permanently.
August 21st, 2012 at 7:28 PM ^
was the road jersey.

Of the three guys pictured above, what position is the guy on the left being recruited for? And for what class I wonder?
August 21st, 2012 at 3:05 PM ^
Lets hope so. I have hated our away whites since adidas took over. They looked like something I could pick up at Meijer.
August 21st, 2012 at 3:09 PM ^
I don't mind the thin maize piping as shown above or on our last set of Nike whites though I would prefer the jersey to have none at all. Regardless of piping, that is a massive improvement without those horrible "elephant tusk" maize side panels.
August 21st, 2012 at 3:19 PM ^
seems to be the most inversely correlated to the traditional home look. The sleeve stripes are added to avoid it being a Penn State jersey, what without a maize outline on the numbers; could use a block 'M' somehwere perhaps.
August 21st, 2012 at 3:29 PM ^
It does look good though...close to Penn State or not
August 21st, 2012 at 6:14 PM ^
As well. Do not look like PSU! See number placement.
August 21st, 2012 at 3:18 PM ^
The "elephant tusk" jerseys were supposed to have been phased out before last season, but were used by players who didn't like/want the cut/fit of the TechFit jerseys, which were the newer non-tusk style. All a matter of personal preference, sometimes even changed during the course of a game.
I would assume something has been done for this season to avoid the old-stock/new-stock mismatch. Lots of time to figure out the cuts and preferences. Doesn't seem like the tight fit has been a huge hit with the players since the Adidas switch.
August 21st, 2012 at 10:13 PM ^
Said it perfectly.
August 21st, 2012 at 3:29 PM ^
I would like to see no piping and just have a white jersey. And I hate the gloves everytime I look at that I think of OSU doing it to us when they were up 40 points in the Pryor years.
August 21st, 2012 at 3:33 PM ^
At first I had no idea what you were talking about when you said "elephant tusks." I do like these jerseys much better without the "elephant tusks."
Did we have the stupid B1G logo on our jerseys last year?
August 21st, 2012 at 3:41 PM ^
B1G logo is standard for all conference teams starting this year.
August 21st, 2012 at 3:43 PM ^
That is one ugly logo. I wish they could take it off. Put it on the back of the helmets.
August 21st, 2012 at 4:50 PM ^
If it's between putting the logo on the jerseys and helmets, I'd prefer to keep it off the helmets
August 21st, 2012 at 11:58 PM ^
On their t-shirts?
August 21st, 2012 at 5:50 PM ^
I think the new B1G is the worst looking logo of any conference. I wish they could have just figured out a way to hide a 12 in the BigTen like they did with 11 before Nebraska joined.
August 21st, 2012 at 3:54 PM ^
It seems unusual to put the Adidas logo on the front of the jersey and the "M" on the back. Basically, it looks like the team plays for Adidas....not for Michigan. However, I realize that Adidas expects some exposure for the money it is shelling out.
August 21st, 2012 at 4:39 PM ^
I've always found it odd that the NFL is stricter about apparel manufacturer logos (they can't be on the front of the uniform) than the NCAA is. You'd think the amateur division would want to avoid the appearance of selling out.
August 21st, 2012 at 4:20 PM ^
aka pre-1997 road jerseys or bust.
August 21st, 2012 at 8:35 PM ^
The stripes on the sleeves. To me, those are the classic road jerseys (or as classic as the road jersey can be).
These aren't bad but I could do without ANY yellow piping.
August 21st, 2012 at 4:41 PM ^
I really like the jerseys we are wearing against Alabama next. Wouldn't mind if we had those for our permanent road jerseys. These aren't bad though.
August 21st, 2012 at 4:45 PM ^
Hey hey hey guys. Enough of this comparing anything about our uniforms to anything that has to do with an elephant for a while. After all, we are playing those pachyderms in 10 days.
August 21st, 2012 at 4:51 PM ^
What they wore for the Sugar Bowl..fricken sweet!
August 21st, 2012 at 5:02 PM ^
I know we have a lot of slot ninja/smurf/midget type players but please tell me that the kid in the lower left of the picture on the O.P. is not on the football team
August 21st, 2012 at 5:36 PM ^
He is the field goal tee.
August 21st, 2012 at 5:52 PM ^
thats inverse tacopants. he's visible and short and doesn't get any playing time
August 21st, 2012 at 6:10 PM ^
I'll actually buy one of those when I'm up there this year. Good looking away style jersey! Also loved the away jerseys we wore for the Illinois game.
August 21st, 2012 at 10:11 PM ^
You mean northwestern. Illinois game was same ole ones since 08.
August 21st, 2012 at 7:14 PM ^
Hope this is real and the piping is gone. I think this (new?) jersey looks MUCH better.
*in before my e-stalker marks this as trolling... even though I have no idea how me saying I think our jersey looks good is trolling*
