Eifert gets ND in trouble with tweet

Submitted by Pdeaner on

According to the Brian Hamilton of the Chicago Tribune here is the offical word from the NCAA:

Official NCAA word on Eifert tweet: "A student-athlete cannot publicize a prospective student-athlete's visit." Bylaw 13.10.5.#NotreDame

Here is Eiferts Tweet:

@EiferTy80: Big recruiting day tomorrow here at ND. Looking forward to meeting and hangin with 5 star Fort Wayne native@JaeeSmiff9ENT

Anyone know what this does to the recruitment of Jalen Smith for Notre Dame?  They currently lead for him.

I doubt it's anything serious. I actually wouldn't mind ND landing Smith, rather them than OSU. Of course I'd rather Purdue over them both, but for some reason I don't think that will happen.

Hell, I'd rather have ND sign every single 5 star that we don't.  At least that way you know they'll never come back to hurt you. UND stands for UNDerperform.

I think we're going to see this happen more and more with social networks being mainstream.

This won't amount to anything as it shouldn't.  It's not like recruiting visits, including the unofficials, are all that secretive anymore

So I love what Shane Morris and friends are doing for Michigan recruiting at the moment, but I'm wondering if the coaching staff has sat down with him and made sure he understands the rules regarding NCAA recruiting rules. It'll probably be morer of an issue once he signs his LOI, if he hasn't done so already.  Given that verbals mean absolutely nothing to the NCAA, he's probably just as subject to NCAA rules as you or I. But as an official commit, I think hell' need to watch what he says. Just something to be aware of...

Say I'm a football player, so if a high school teammate of mine (who was a year behind me) or my younber brother comes to campus and a I tweet about it, it is a secondary violation?

The NCAA really needs to toss out their rule book and re-write it.  With everyone and their brother following recruiting at their particular schools there are entire agendas posted around detailing who and when the are coming for a visit.
