EDSBS on Rosenberg

Submitted by BiSB on

In today's Curious Index, Spencer Hall over at Every Day Should Be Saturday threw in this little gem about Mike Rosenberg's commentary regarding the Cam Newton situation.

Michael Rosenberg, better known to the world as the man who would connect Somali food supply instability to Rich Rodriguez's improper and excessive use of athletic tape on Michigan's shoulder pads, takes the ice to the tune of Nickelbacks "Hurrg Gurngle Fartbuckle Urngh" 'and executes a perfect triple Salchow of stupidity.

What I find remarkable is that, if all of this is true, the under-the-table payments are what would upset people the most. I mean, yes, it is against NCAA rules. But in any other segment of society, if a college kid found a way to use his talents to bring in money to support his father's church, he would be a hero. There would be glowing newspaper profiles and probably a few humanitarian awards. If a kid does it in college football, he's a villain.

There are few words. But the one that comes to mind is HOLYFUCKROSENBERGYOUGODDAMNHYPOCRITE.  On the bright side, I am reminded again of how much I like Spencer Hall.

You said it best imo. Rosenberg went on the offensive against RR with the pretense to be all about staying in line with NCAA rules and this sudden defense of Cam Newton which if, and only if proven true, would make RR's non-violations even less worthy than they are now.

This jumps out at me, but the most important issue you write about and jumps out clearly is when you mention  what he does to "our school" which just happens to be his school.

UM's coaching staff and members of its AD since the inception of an Athletic Department have worked long and tireless hours to ensure that UM would remain synonymous with all that's good about collegiate sports and leave the end arounds and built in "traps" to work around the rules to those less inclined to run a clean program.

To have one of its own graduates generate the first and only NCAA investigation and resulting sanctions against its football program, albeit for issues never before brought in front of that governing body and that status would remain the same had it not been  for a clear and public agenda vs. RR is simply appalling and he should be divorced from the university forever.  That he thinks his one man crusade was worth having the name Michigan listed next to scores of schools that have actually been bending the rules for a clear cut advantage on the field of play speaks volumes as to  his loyalty to his alma mater and to what's really important in his small, deparmentalized station in the universe, himself. And to that,I say congratulations you son of a bitch.
