Are you a paid subscriber to Tigerbait?  It appears that, in the vein of such esteemed sites as SpartanTailgate.com every article with even an oodle of original content is hidden behind a paywall.  Then you pay the $7.99 a month or whatever...to find out exactly what 100 other sites have been reporting for free!!  But you paid for it so it must be accurate..right?

OP: Can you please update thread title to clarify this is a completely unsubstantiated rumor? Maybe like "Rumor: ..."? There will be many premature head asplosions by just reading the thread title.

. I have lost respect for the Michigan medical school, if this is your method of logic. Where is patience these days? Ohio State hired Tressell on the 17th. Secondly, every other site (The Wolverine, TigerDroppings, and GoBlueWolverine) have said it is more likely Les is leaving.

So maybe this is like when Cheney was tapped to conduct a search for a VP candidate, and then vetted some candidates, and wound up with... Cheney.  The difference here being that while Cheney, regardless of how you feel about him, was a qualified politician, whereas our AD is like Don Quixote.  Tilting at windmills.

Completely False

This was Balas' latest update:

They (hope) based on what they're hearing from their sources that they're putting a package to keep him and think they can get him to stay if Michigan offers.

One Rivals guy is believable and the others aren't?  Last time he had agreed to take the job according to ESPN and it turned out nobody talked to him.

Rivals and Scout don't know shit, especially this time around with Brandon running a tighter ship, and the only names they can think of are Miles and Hoke so that is all they try to recycle until we find out what DB is actually doing.

If you actually followed Rivals aka Balas, you would have known that Balas stated all through out the coaching search after Carr, he was saying Les was never offered while everyone else was running with Herbie's report. Therefore, I believe it is fair to trust Balas. He will post when there is news and if and only if public disclosure will not jeopardize negotiations.

before settling on Hoke?

Hoke means at least 2 more years of losing.  Denard and Tate would almost certainly be out, and if Gardner leaves it would be 2007 all over again.  Even if Gardner doesn't leave he's still a first year QB.  Does anyone have any confidence at all that Hoke and upgrade the talent on defense, or that he can bring in a strong DC who can teach fundamentals?

This is really starting to get ugly.

Has more defense in his background than offense, also has some special teams. Defensive Line Coach for Michigan from 1995-2005, part of that stint was associate head coach as well. He was also named coach of the year recently.

I have read several news articles not blogs that he runs a wide spread offense and is adaptable. He has played our rivalrys, and knows what Michigan is all about when it comes to football.

It is going to be another less than fun year or two no matter who the new coach is....its called a transition period.  Unfortunately it is not going to turn around overnight as we all hope it will.  That being said, Hoke is pretty far down on my wishlist too.

Gus Malzahn.  Where is the drumbeat for this guy?  He knows offense, he knows the game.  His schemes fit with the guys already there.  Get the D tuned up, and there ya go.

Yes Hoke sucks for several reasons.  Not keeping Denard isn't one of them.  Denard is a great player with a very real chance to be a Heisman winner before he graduates, but you don't make a decision that affects the program for a decade or more based on a player you have for two years.

The latest on the coaching search, including the latest information on Les Miles and more…

Starting with reports that Miles’ wife, Kathy, “doesn’t want to move back to Ann Arbor.” That one doesn’t seem right, and it certainly wasn’t the case three years ago. She’s got roots here, too, and was ready to come back in 2007 had Bill Martin chosen to hire Miles. We're not saying it couldn't change, but it doesn't seem likely.

There have been rumblings that Miles might want to stay at LSU. We’ve heard differently from sources close to Miles, but it’s hard to know for certain without knowing how the interview goes. That could change, too.

Brandon is set to interview a few more people, etc., but anyone who professes to know who at this point (though we’re pretty certain the Jon Gruden interview rumor was bogus) - well, doesn’t, and they won’t get it from the Michigan end.

This remains a one-man show. No leaks on the Michigan side, so anybody who professes to know for certain that Brandon expects to offer Miles during his interview - well, they don’t.

We can say Miles makes the most sense right now, and he probably does based on the limited information out there. We can give reasons why Michigan fans might embrace him if he chooses to come back, but to say that means we “endorse him” or any other candidate is false.

We will offer opinions - TCU head coach Gary Patterson, for example, is a hot name, but is he the right coach for Michigan? I wouldn’t think so, and based on what little we do know about Brandon (from before this all began) and the debacle that was the Rich Rodriguez era (not all his fault), we think he’d agree.

That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t happen - nor would we lobby against it. We’re not here to lobby for anyone, but we will offer some opinions.

It could be Miles by Monday or Tuesday. It could well be a candidate we’ve never even considered or heard of, or it could fall back to San Diego State coach Brady Hoke. Miles seems to be the most likely choice at this point, but there’s no guarantee… just like there was obviously no guarantee they were going to reach the finish line with Jim Harbaugh.
