Tennessee is not recruiting well just because they got 18 dudes
I am cheering for IU to lose
If they had a realistic shot at winning this game, I would be all "OHIO! FUCK YEAH," but them winning this game is about at realistic as Rory Mcllroy's wisdon tooth excuse, so they can go to hell.
I get what you mean but if Minnesota and Illinois can do it, for some reason you really think Ohio St. has no chance? Too one-dimensional or what's your reasoning?
I think you should re-evaluate thinking Ohio State doesn't have a realistic chance. They certainly can win, especially given their impressive play over the last 3. We needed them to step up big and down No. 5 MSU last year in the finale, no reason they couldn't do the same.
Now, if you want to say it's not likely, well, I agree with you there for sure. OSU probably won't win, but then again I didn't think that Illinois would beat Indiana, nor Minnesota, ah, who knows.
I do find it's pretty fun to watch basketball that your team isn't directly involved in, much easier to enjoy the actual game.
I don't think they have any shot to win this game. I would love it if they did, but Indiana took Ohio a loooooong way behind the shed, in Columbus, when the crowd was all "da-da,dadada,da," and tOSU was on a semi-roll. I'm sorry, this is the finale this year at Assembly Hall. Thomas is good but there is just not enough there. They simply can't score with IU. I put the probability at 3.7%, and that is being generous.
So you're willing to give me 1,000,000 to 1 odds?
You might be able to get him to lay 96.3-1
Wouldn't a 3.7% chance equate to something like 30-1?
They too can with this. OSU had the ball and at least a chance to tie at the end of games at Duke, Michigan (in OT), and Michigan State.
OSU gave them a 9-point loss at home. Should've had some faith.
you misunderstood my posts above. I was trying to say that I thought Ohio was a darn good basketball team and had a very good shot to go into Assembly and roll Indiana on Senior Night. I don't know what you were reading, but I think I was pretty clear on this point. ;)
Yeah, I want to put my 2 cents in on that event. Last wednesday I had my wisdom teeth out, they were all impacted. That following saturday and sunday I played in a golf tournament, and was in tons of pain, hammered up on pain killers, and it was almost beyond me just to walk straight.
IF McIlroy is telling the truth, which I think he is, I have full symapthy for him, and I think that it is very realisitc that the tooth could have affected his game like that.
admitted it didn't today.
I have no idea why people don't respect OSU's hoop team; if these guys are making some shots they are as good as anyone, AS THEIR RECORD SHOWS.
It's not likely but kenpom has them at about 20%. I mean, if Indiana can lose at home to Wisconsin, if we can lose to Penn State, Kansas to TCU etc etc. It's not like 1%, OSU is still a good team. Crazy things can happen in one college basketball game.
Good thing you didn't bet the house on that gut feeling...
I feel gross wanting Ohio to win. Perhaps I'll shower before the game, think on my sins, you know.
"Ugh. Go Buckeyes." yuck ok I guess... now wash out your whorish mouth.
I even used hospital-grade bleach (whatever that is).
As much as I want a share of that big ten Championship a OSU loss would really help up with seeding for the BIG Ten tornament so it really is a situation where you have to look and say which one benefits us more. But because I hold on to every last inch of hope I want OSU to win and pray we win out would be lovely to share it again.
Winning the regular season title > Good tournament seed, IMO. Would be nice to get into the top 4 though for the first round bye.
thats where I stand all I was saying is given the scenario that we dont beat IU an OSU loss here would help us out in a big way.
Really IU does not deserve destruction, just a loss. Can the meteor just hit OSU?
Almost as bad as Ohio vs Duke. I didn't have enough hate in my body so I couldn't watch. For this one I'll give it a go but in no way will I root for that team. 3 overtimes would make me very happy.
I'll never get the Duke hatred. Is it because they're always good? Search for "Krzyzewski controversy" on Google. He runs what appears to be a squeaky clean program that wins a ton of games and tends to graduate its players at much higher rates than other NCAA basketball powers.
I hate that they beat the Fab 5 too, but that's the only reason I can think of to hate Duke.
Exactly. We really have no room to talk here.
I will say this, they are not the best ACC campus in 15 miles. I'm not a fan of Durham.
I thought their campus itself was pretty - but the city of Durham is a dump. Chapel Hill is definitely a much better college town.
It's actually a great place to live, if you want gritty/authentic plus college amenities (concerts, coed scenery, university facilities, etc.) with a stellar food and art scene. But a college town it ain't. Chapel Hill is much more of a college town....it's Ann Arbor's Southern Mini-Me.
My judgement based on growing up my first 20+ years in A2, last almost 20 in Durham (but with family still in Ann Arbor).
Coincidentally, The Fab Five documentary is on ESPN2 right now.
If it means michigan has a chance to grab a share of the title i will be very happy to root for OSU
For what it's worth, Massey estimates that Ohio State has an 18% chance of winning, and most sites give are picking Indiana as a favorite by 7-8 points.
Here are some of the highlights from TeamRankings' stat comparison, which uses the whole season, not just conference play:
|Offensive Stat Comparison|
|Avg Score Margin||+11.5||+20.1|
|Effective FG %||50.9%||56.2%|
|Off Rebound %||32.0%||38.8%|
Defensive Stat Comparison
|Opp Effective FG %||45.4%||43.4%|
When the teams played in Columbus, OSU got killed. Also, OSU is 0-5 against ranked teams on the road this year.
I don't think there's a chance in hell they win this game.
I don't understand the popular "Hoke is geographically challenged" notion amongst the people who perpertuate it daily by shouting at one another for help spelling the very thing they stand against.
we have to root for these Bozos?? They pulled through for us last year at Breslin, so, "Go Peanut Butter Balls!" (what my daughter calls them...)
Any news on Gardner's redshirt?
The people in the front row thought it was hilarious.
I choose to believe Tim told him to get the F off his court.
Is anyone here a gif lip reader.... Need to know what was said
Gif lip is a pretty serious condition, nothing to joke about.
After Appling picked up his 4th foul, he went over to speak with Izzo, since they were on the court, THJ decided to eavesdrop. I couldn't make out what Izzo said at first, but the last thing he said as THJ walked away was 'Dont do that shit'.
That old guy is my new favorite stranger.
Is there someplace that lists which Officials are assigned to the remaining games in the regular season ?
I don't feel the Ohio hate as much in basketball, though it's there. I'd root for them against Sparty if we had no stake in the game.
Agreed. Without some sort of outside factor, I'd root for OSU over State 100% of the time.
Are you serious? Fuck ohio and everything about them. I'm not rooting for them in anything over msu. At least msu is located in michigan. Fuck the entire state of ohio.
We've been through this a billion times on the board. Everyone's got a different priority list based on where they live, who the most annoying opposing fans in their life are, and what their most traumatic sporting moments have been. For me, when it comes to basketball, I dislike MSU more than I dislike OSU. Obviously the opposite is true for football.
Sacrificing your own goals out of spite is so... Sparty
i will root for IU to lose, and I will root for ohio to win, but I'll be damned if I ever say...
Ugh. Go Buckeyes.
Your words, not mine.
I'll be sitting underneath the banners for this one, and although I'm wearing an IU shirt, I know deep down who I really want to win.
Josh Oglesby, the nations worst shooter statistically (at least 90 shots attempted) just hit two huge 3s against Illinois. He really is a good shooter but has gone through a tough, tough stretch of poor shooting.
I feel like Iowa is a lock to win the NIT.
Not sure if thread worthy but Chance Stewart just decommitted from Wisconsin per Steve Wiltfong twitter. FYI
Mizzu stomping Arkansas.... blah. Watching SEC basketball is like watching BigTen football
There is a big difference between wanting someone to win, and needing someone to win.
Even if it benefits Michigan for them to win?
I will acknowledge that an Ohio win is in our best interest. But I'll be damned if that means I'll actually root for them.
Fab Five doc on ESPN2 right now. Always awesome
all of those fans at Assembly were huge Lakers fans 2-3 years ago.
hate them in football. It's not because I'm a fan of Matta, either. It's just that I came to like Sullinger and his relationship with Trey, to admire Craft's game, and to think that Thomas is a helluva player.
Yep. The only thing I really hate about OSU basketball is Matta's face. That and the fact that Craft seems to be able to bear hug everyone without any foul calls because that's his reputation. None of the players come off as douchy as Appling/Nix/Lucas/etc. I can at least respect OSU basketball.
They really aren't the big rival in basketball. It annoys me how the commentators and media figures assume Michigan-ohio is SUCH a big rivalry across ALL sports. Just because The Game is the biggest rivalry in all sports, doesn't mean the rivalry between the schools should be grandfathered into all the sports they play. Sure there is still that edge, but basketball compared to football is night and day.
BTN tries to hype Michigan playing ohio in hockey as if it is our chief rival when that designation belongs to FYS (despite them sucking bawls). Same goes with basketball IMO. The basketball series hasn't really been competitive record-wise.
Don't get me wrong, I love seeing all of their teams go down but they aren't the team that draws my complete ire in all sports.
I'd say next to football, the Michigan-ohio game is the #1 rivalry for Baseball. But even then, they aren't even meeting ONCE this year so it can't be that valued.
Just my two cents.
What producer thought it was a good idea to do these Dan Dakich coaching clinics during timeouts. I like teaching moments but these are not good.
I will never root for Ohio State to win. Ever. There's a distinct difference between needing your rival to win versus actually wanting it to win.
That being said, if Ohio State pulls it out tonight, we'd better damn well beat Indiana. At this stage in the game, I don't want to hear about OSU getting to hang a 4th straight banner while we get nothing.
Needing something means you want it, like it or not. But wanting something doesn't mean you need it, that's where the distinction between the two comes.
Well your logic is flawed. Ohio NEEDS us to beat Indiana or neither of us are hanging a banner.
why are we tuning into BTN to find out?? I was misled and left in disarray due to this blog advice.
Because your's truly is dumb and didn't realize we had the good fortunes of a Dan Dakich announced game on ESPN (srsly, if you enjoy him, sarcastically if you don't).
My bad bro
Game in only 17-17 yet the Indiana crowd sounds like they're up by 50.
Ugh...going to take a cold shower.
Right.......Trey Burke is going to win the Wooden award but isnt the best player in the B1G.
Trolling, trolling, trolling. Keep those dogies rolling.
Was that Dakich?
What a dipshit.
I'm rooting for dakich to anounce his retirement tonight.
Are doing ok so far
Has every player with a scholarship shot 90% from the top of the key on wide open 3's?
That's actually the Tim Doyle rule.
Good half for Michigan and for Burke winning the wooden: Indiana down by 3 and Oladipo has 0 points.
Did we like pull a scholly or something from Dakish? It's like he's on a one-man mission of Michigan hate lately.
Illinois is better than Michigan Dan? Um....no.
Victor HomeDepot is B1G player of the year Dan? Um....no.
The officiating in the Michigan-Indiana game was the "best" he'd seen all year Dan? Um...no.
Troll on Master Troller.
Maybe this has something to do with it....
Notice that Wright didn't tweet at Dakich.....Dakich must follow Wright and saw it on his TL....
Here's what the shooting has been like in Bloomington:
Many of the stats right now are virtually the same - Indiana has 4 offensive rebounds to the Buckeyes' 2, and Ohio State has 8 personal fouls to Indiana's five. Ohio State also has 4 blocks to Indiana's single block. Those would cover the most glaring differences in the basic box score.
loveable and humourous.
Thad Matta significantly less so.
Dammit pot brownies and absynthe.
I remember the first time one of my buddies tried really potent pot brownies with us. We were heading to an outdoor concert that had a lot of pyrotechnics and a laser light show.
We told him to only have half of one, but he ate two.
A few hours later mid concert with all of the lasers going off and fireworks, he was holding onto a fence at a 45 degree angle (his legs stopped working) for dear life making this face:
Those were the days.
Hungry. Eat space cake. Now I'm high. Hungry again. Eat another space cake. Really high Now. Gettin hungry again....oh.....Champaigne waterfalls with unicorns and seahorses making love, man!
"Delirious" by Prince blaring.
...I know I am dreaming but that would just be awesome if Ohio pulls this upset AND Michigan beats Purdue on road AND then avenges road loss to IU in Ann Arbor to cap off one of the best BIG seasons I can remember and in the process wins share of the BIG and secures either a 1 or 2 seed in Tourney! Cherry on top would be all the prospective Team 135 members in attendance that instantaneously commit on the spot! I know...I know...but it is nice to dream big!
Dakich is a douche canoe.
hopes up here, and it's past my bedtime!
Man, does OSU play some great D.
Goaltend, but Dan doesn't care--he's an Indiana fan, after all. Second bad call against OSU in as many minutes.
I think Dakich got a handjob from berggren.
His "75% of missed shots go to the far side." Stat?
He's worse than Holtz.
At least Holtz is funny because he saysth everything like thisth.
These charges/blocks are awful
OSU doing a good job fighting against the usual Assembly Hall homecooking
Ok.....stop me if you've heard this one before.
OSU Fouls: 7 (and counting....just got another one as I typed this)
Indiana Fouls: 1
Assembly Hall....where opposing teams play 5 against 8 every game.
You misspelled Assembly Call.
Dickitch: I don't care that it's goal tending, it's a great play.
I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with your point, but do we need to resport to the middle school insults?
We will resport to whatever we want.
talker alive. He wore out his welcome on TV very, very quickly.
Holy shit it's not a charge if the offensive player beats the defender to the spot, Dakich.
....but these BIG refs are awful!
But Craft is a really solid college player. Brings energy, leadership and poise every night.
Like to see some level of consistency in the B10 on charging. Call it either way, but don't make us guess on every single play.
Wish UM had someone like him on D.
Charge call is ruining the game. It's such an arbitrary call anymore it's laughable. Even when the teams I root for get a crappy call their way in the form of said charge call, I shake my head in disgust.
God I thought I would NEVER say this but I actually feel bad for OSU fans right now. If I was one of them I would've punched a hole in my TV, my wall, my cat, etc by now.
This is bad even by Assembly Hall standards. Why won't the B1G do something about the raging incompetence/pussification of the officials?
we've had the refs determined to hand the B1G championship to IU over the last five minutes, with call after bad call, and Dan Jockitch repeatedly supporting them, saying he doesn't care if they're bad calls. Heaven help us.
Making a STATEMENT. As in handing the B1G to IU. 9-1 fouls now.
CBS has the game.
The announcers for the MSU game said that Kellog's crew was doing the IU UM game.
Indiana's home team announcer for espn
He's so full of shit most of the time
just had a couple huge possessions.
Oh boy...craft travelled twice on that possession
By Craft. Great poise.
hate to play against him but love to root for him to beat teams we want to lose
Craft is having a great, great game
Don't really care for Craft, but I have to respect the man's game.
C'mon guys. Get real and at least pretend to be neutral
with 2 things
A) The play of ohio tonight
B) The quality of topics on the board today and the last couple days really
Posbangs all around
Take a note from Thad and have our bigs beat the piss out of Zeller. Dude cannot handle being physical in the paint.
craft continues to impress.
harder to hate him now alas.
What a three. And Aaron Craft: much respect.
This is a damn tough conference. Ohio looks every bit of a top 6-8 team tonight, maybe better considering where they are playing and the foul disparity. Absolutely brutal defense.
They look amazing and their D looks on another level. Impressive.
Big shot by Thomas, keep it up on the defensive end and our championship dreams are still within reach.
I feel no shame in saying that
I want nothing to do with OSU the rest of the season.
Gonzaga playing each of these teams, twice, and adding a couple each against us, Minnesota, Sparty and Wiscy? Assume they play ten against that crowd, hard for me to see them doing better than splitting.
And yet somehow they're going to get a 1-seed.....
They lost to Illinois at home. They'd be extremely lucky to split against the top tier teams in our league.
At least this is making Dackich STFU
It's been a while since I've heard assembly hall this quiet, even with that Watford 3
Wow, biggest deficit of the year for IU on senior night.
They are gonna come after it on Sunday. Can't wait (knock on wood, take care of business first, etc, etc).
I know we all loved the Fab Five and the documentary was interesting, but that whole thing was more like a Shakespearean Tragedy since we didn't win it all and it led to some bad things for the BBall Program.
That was hangin' on the rim by Thompson, if Burke had done that it woulda been called.
I think we would all like it if Michigan could play defense like Ohio State.
This cannot be more stated. I wanted to post it, but at this exact moment I did not want to damper the mood on the blog.
So I am out of town and streaming the game. The commentary is in Spanish, and it is amazing.
After Craft banked in that jumper they screamed, "ARRRRRIBAAAA!"
would approve that comment
It's coming ...
This isnt Euro football Crean
yup, he sure is
Will the Phantom Flagrant make its appearance for IU?
Craft with the Harlem Globetrotters imitation.
this shit right now, rooting for ohio seems to be paying off, keep it going nutty boys
Indiana seems determined to give us a shot at the B1G title. Last week we were just as determined to give it back.
Can we please take care of fucking business tomorrow night and set up the showdown this weekend? Please!
IU being IU, trying to get the cheap call. Desperate times. Good for them.
not his best game but oladipo is a freaking monster
the refs just CAN'T STAND to call a foul on iu
IU resorting to flopping
The refs forgot they're supposed to be calling fouls now. Haha!
Hopefully we can return OSU the favor Sunday, after we beat Purdue tomorrow, of course.
Or we can just root for Illinois to knock them off.
toughness. Yawn. You've worn out your welcome, chunk.
They keep cutting to Dakich and Tirico, and every time they do the Spanish announcers will say something and both laugh. I feel like they're talking shit. An Anchorman-esque showdown is imminent.
How much money do you think Ted Valentine makes in Vegas a year?
BS travel. Smith almost pushed Valentine over giving him the ball.
he was on Dancing with the Stars. He loves dancing on camera.
Here comes the fake elbow play by IU...
Hit your ft's buckee.
Two more wins. Go Blue.
Wasn't that 5 fouls on Oladipo?
These refs are horrible. I guess it is fun to see it on two rivals, but Teddy Ballgame has to be one of the worst in the country.
of the night for the officials, huh? Just mash the crap out of Smith's face, no probs.
Kraft should just tackle Jordan Hulls because I think the refs would let it go
Still a chance!
see you in Ann Arbor!
Sat behind the IU bench during fab five era and they got crushed by the 93/94 team. The hatred and blatant racism by Knight and his staff during pre games was ridiculous. I was shocked listening to them and Dakich was the worse one.
No let downs!
Purdue > Penn State so we better bring 40 minutes of hell.
Our defense vs. Sparty was promising. I just hope we start making 3's like we were at the beginning of the season come the tourney.
Welp. It's up to us. NO LOOKING AHEAD!!!!
Producer in TV truck: "Get me some sad Indiana dudes!"
pisses me off the most is losing to PSU hurts so much now because we coulda won it outright if we win out, ugh!
Time to boss up.
PLAYIN FOR THE BIG TEN TITLE!
Edit: Oops, I'm looking ahead. Forgot about that whole Purdue game. Don't look ahead!
Payback for Oladipo's bullshit dunk at the buzzer is imminent. Go Blue!
Gives us a shot at earning a game for the title by beating Purdue.
Also, hard roar me to see how Ohio is not on the three line, or maybe the two line. Not impossible for there to be three B10 teams on the two line, with another on the three.
Someone from the league is getting a 1 seed. But it might be the winner of the Big Ten tournament
Beat Purdue. Thank you Ohio St.
Another chance to get the banner - please please please beat Purdue tomorrow.
SI! SI! SI!
Where's ijohnb at?!!??
The losses to Wisconsin and Penn State continue to hurt more and more. But Indiana is just begging us to win a share of the title.
I know they don't owe us anything, but I'm praying Burke and Co. take care of business tomorrow. Life doesn't normally just hand you second chances like this.
Please let Ohio lose to Illinois, Wisconsin beat msu, and Michigan win out!!!!
I feel so filthy rooting for Ohio. But I can live with it if it helps our cause. Go Blue!
Have a chance
All the teams tied with us are going to be cheering for us the rest of the week. Except maybe Sparty - if they lose to Wisconsin they'll probably be the biggest haters of all.
If Sparty beats Wisc and there are 4 teams at 13-5, who is the #1 Seed?
Indiana would be first, as they'd have a 4-2 record among the tied teams. MSU would be 4th, with a 2-4 record. I'm not sure whether UM or OSU gets the 2 (both 3-3)
But if Wisconsin wins out, I think they get the 1 seed, as they'd be at 11-5 and have a 3-1 record against UM, IU, and OSU. OSU would be 2nd at 3-3, and UM and IU would be tied at 2-3, but I think IU would get the 3 seed, as they have a 2-0 record against the 5th team (MSU).
In the above scenario, we'd get the 3 seed, as OSU would have a better record against the #5 team (1-1 vs Wisco, against our 0-1).
Really weird that that one Indiana team (1983) got its own Big Ten banner and all the other champs are crowded together. That seems like a slap in the face to the other championship teams.
in the student section, you can recognize me as the one that's maized out and causing a ruckus
It was supposedly a homage to the fans. Indiana had lost their best player at the start of the 1983 season and coach Knight requested the fans to really come out and support them as they were needed more than ever and when Indiana managed to win the Big Ten title, a separate banner was created.
Classy posts on this blog, ladies and gents... Great win for the Buckeyes and good luck against Purdue and please beat IU...
now back to my regular scheduled programming of hating everything about you
Buckeyes did not screw up. Mild sense of satisfaction felt.
Michigan needs to take care of business at Purdue
Michigan needs to Beat Indiana at home
