[EDIT: Brett Neilon commits to USC]

Submitted by Chicken22 on

Brett Neilon to announce commitment tomorrow. He is a 4 star OC. Top three are Michigan, USC, and Washington. (In no order) All signs pointing to USC, not good. People say that Michigan was his leader but he recently visited USC. His crystal ball is 83% USC to 17% Michigan. Really want him, he would be a HUGE get.

As expected: [EDIT: Brett Neilon commits to USC]

If he does in fact choose USC then Ruiz becomes as a very big recruit to get committed. They really need a Center in this class and him and Neilon seemed to be the two biggest names that Michigan has been going after.

Almost everyone is a step down from Harbaugh in terms of coaching ability. Kids go to the colleges they go to for a variety of reasons. Academics, proximity to family, a special someone, or just for the eye candy. Can't fault a guy for finding the average USC girl more desirable. Can't fault a guy for finding southern California weather more appealing than Michigan. Now if he's making this choice for career prospects...then I've got nothing...

Career prospects is why parents make their kids go to college. The kids' college of choice is usually for other reasons. I am admittedly using my own experience here, but my high school was one of the top in the state, fantastic grad rate, etc. College was assumed for damn near everyone. And I saw very few people decide which college to attend based on career ambitions. Some people had an idea, like for engineering or pre med. Others - like me - simply went to the best college they could get into (I was limited to in-state options only for financial reasons). The vast majority either 1) went to the same place their friends did, 2) went to their parents' alma mater, 3) applied based on sports loyalty, or 4) went where they could afford that was close to home.

If you're from SoCal and want to live there after college, USC is hard to beat.  You have a strong and wealthy fan base in SoCal who would love to hire an ex-USC football player.  There are Michigan fans/alumni all over the world, but most of them are in Michigan.

That top poll comes from a Reddit thing where they got responses from less than 3500 people. So while probably correct in a lot of areas, it leaves a bit to be desired.

I think the answer is never. Pete Carroll's rep was mostly built after getting the job and he was down their list of candidates. They don't seem to take their AD position very seriously. They just hire former players with little to no experience. The only thing I would assume is that USC won't be too patient with Helton.

Nothing happened to make him change his favorites. To me it just sounded like he wanted to slow down a little. I wouldn't consider that good news for us, but there's no way he suddenly looks at every school as being even.

He didn't replace Michigan with a new favorite but only has them all equal. No big deal. It's a long way until signing day and if Michigan can put together a brilliant and dominating season (and possibly a NC) many top prospects will take a much more serious look at Michigan and the benefits of playing for JMFH (in honor of JMFJ)

We've been his top school forever and he hadn't pulled the trigger. This doesn't look good but I'm hoping I'm wrong! But I've seen this show before so I'm a bit worried.
