Ed Davis Update
I just finished listening to Sam Webb on WTKA' s Recruiting Roundup, and he mentioned that Ed Davis was bringing his family up to Michigan State today to show them around. That does not bode well for the good guys if he still plans to announce next week at the SMSB event.
He still scores the first TD in the UVA comeback.
Wait, wut?
am shocked at this turn of events. A Southeastern player taking a last minute trip to sparty land before his announcement? Unheard of.
I think most people don't assume we will get Ed. He has us in his top 3, but there has been too much negative recruiting going on by Soup Campbell. We had a long road to try and reverse the negative recruiting with him. Even though Dantonio et al didn't have to go negative with their recruiting a wink or a nod when Ed or his parents asked questions about Michigan only would help to confirm the garbage that Soup is spilling.
I am not privy to what exactly happened besides RR letting him go 2 years ago, but why is he saying so much crap about UofM now? Or is that just how he recruits in general?
Who is Soup and what's the background there?
Erik Campbell. Former UofM assistant caoch (and player, I beleive)... now at Iowa.
He's Eric Campbell, former WR coach at UM under LC, and Iowa's primary Michigan recruiter. Was let go (IIRC at least) when RR came in along with pretty much the rest of the coaching staff aside from Jackson.
Thanks. I always assumed that Dantonio would be the source of most negative recruiting, but I guess I don't worry about Iowa too much as there isn't a ton of overlap. This season needs to start...when I'm digging into the background of former WR coaches, then I'm starving for Michigan football.
He football at UM too in the mid-80's.
I am not sure why you are getting negged for asking a question. I guess there are some guys on here that woke up on the grumpy side of their flip-n-fu^% this morning.
Not that I think it's impossible that a former coach would be negging the current staff, but can you point to real fact and evidence—not internet rumor or opinion—that Campbell is badmouthing UM?
For the record, I think that RR would have benefited from retaining Campbell. I was sorry to see him let go. I understand that RR, like any new coach, wanted to bring his own people, but sometimes it can be an advantage to retain quality coaches.
I also was hoping Campbell would be retained.
He was great with the receivers at Michigan--they usually improved in route running and catching while under him.
But more specifically for this so called "spread offense"--Campbell's guys were blockers, big time. I hear the spread requires receivers who block?
As for this "negative recruiting" bullshit: So what? What should Campbell or anyone do but tell the truth: Rodriguez is about as close to being a lame-duck coach as you can have without it being official. Right?
Fine by me if we don't get him. Bring on Kellen Jones, Kris Frost and Curtis Grant(wishful thinking) The way I see it, it is a lose lose situation for us. If we do get him RichRod goes after too many 3 stars, if we dont he can't recruit the state. Oh well
You can never have too many three stars when your trying to form the 3 Star Mafia.
Everyone keeps saying "Next" or rifling off a bunch of names we're supposed to be "in on" whenver a recruit commits somewhere elts.
IF we get those other guys, fine. But you know what? So far, we're not. There's only so many "Nexts" you can go to.
archie collins and fred smith be there??
