That was a brutal call. Being a Red Wings fan, I know all to well how the intent to blow the whistle and whistle blowing early screws you over. It was an awful call, but don't let it blind you to the fact that Michigan was awful tonight. I do not know which was worse, Michigan's Power Play or Michigan's STUPID GOD DAMN PENALTIES. Sure, they got screwed over at the end....but it was their fault for letting themselves be in a position to have a goal like that called off by playing terrible hockey for the first 50 minutes of that game.

Shegos needs to retire. He has never been a competent referee. I remember going to games as a kid and the students had a special four-letter word chant for him.

there are other people on here who know the history of UM hockey enough to immediately reference the mental whistle. Shegos is so awful. he was out of position and got nervous with it being late in the game. it's bullshit and bush league on his part.

and now i'm done bitching about it.
i suggest everyone to get it out of their system and then move on.

...and the disallowed goal was right in front of the Michigan section. It's forever burned into my memory. I even remember Eric Nystrom breaking his stick in half across the boards as he left the ice.

And having that piece of shit Wilkins reffing. When he would make a stupid penalty students would chant out "we want shegos" and I would always yell back "GOD DAMMIT NO WE DON'T". And this is why. He's terrible. *sigh*.

And I'm not 100% positive, but I think Wilkins was the one who blew the early whistle, not Shegos.

The scary part is, as awful as Shegos is, the standard of refereeing in the CCHA has dropped so much that he's actually one of the better refs in the league now. That game was atrociously called throughout, and I think there have been more Michigan-MSU games that I've seen that had a wrongly-waved-off goal one way or the other than didn't.

In fairness, if the BTN announcers were correct in implying that the hit that wiped out the MSU goal just a minute before would have been legal if the Michigan player had played the puck first (I'm not convinced they were - I think they were arguing more about whether it was interference and didn't notice that it was from behind), then the nullified MSU goal was a screw-job as well because he DID knock the puck down with his glove first. But there's no question that the waved-off goal for you guys should have counted.

They haven't interviewed anyone from Michigan yet. Red I'm sure is livid because not only did we not play well but we got jobbed.. I wouldn't want to talk to him either.

you see the puck at least slow down a little signifying the goalie at least made contact with the puck, giving the ref a minimal out for blowing his whistle. On this play the puck NEVER SLOWED DOWN. A ref HAS to give a chance for the puck to leak through a goalie. If it doesn't come out of the goalie's pads with velocity and the same trajectory, then blow the whistle.

I repeat from the open thread. HORSESHIT.

So what exactly was going through his head?

Hmm.....

(Look at goal) "Hmm no puck"

(Turns away then looks back) "Hmm there's a puck there, wait, it wasn't there before so no way it's a goal"

I miss college...Ferris had a chant where someone yelled "SHEGOS" and everyone in the student sections yelled "BOTH WAYS"

ahhh...the days of immaturity

Not only was the last call hmmm questionable, but throughout the game the calls were terrible. I was only able to watch the last two periods but I saw a bad offsides call, a bad elbow call, bad roughing call, and an iffy hook. The whole game was poor in every way.

I was there, (though not at that end), and I watched the puck cross the line and the fucking red goal light come on.

What the hell. I hate Munn. We never win there, and it's such jobbage.
