Dytarious Johnson signs with Eastern Illinois

Submitted by Magnus on

Linebacker Dytarious Johnson, who was a teammate of Kingston Davis in the 2016 class, committed to Michigan but then went the prep school route. I talked to him back in July when he said he got cleared to join Michigan in January, but in recent months, that fizzled out. He signed with FCS program Eastern Illinois a few days ago. EIU is maybe most famous for producing Cowboys QB Tony Romo.

So in case you were harboring thoughts of him potentially making his way into Michigan's class, this seals the deal.

There was also Pierre Walters, I think, who played for the Chiefs for a few years.Otis Hudson was an EIU grad too, I believe, and he was with the Bengals for a bit. They've produced a few guys, but few who have had quite the staying power of Romo.

Good luck to Dytarius Johnson - hopefully, he finds a home and success at EIU.

Good luck to Dytarious. He should light it up in the FCS. Well then, Willie Gay, come on down! And make this an Alabama caliber LB haul. PS - pretty decent Golden State vs. Cleveland game going down, late in the 4th...

Mike shanahan, John Malcovich, Kevin Duckworth...

...and 3 of my cousins went to EIU. Also, the very first Jimmy Johns was at EIU.

That campus can get absolutely crazy at times.

Maybe someone can correct me, but it seems like EIU is either getting their best LB prospect ever, or Michigan was taking a flier in the hopes of making in-roads at Prattville...

Alternative explaination: recruiting is a boom-bust endeavor and from the extra year of info they had on Johnson (who may have been a bit of a flier/high-risk guy to begin with) they decided there was very little chance he would ever be a Michigan caliber LB.

We already hired one of their coaches and took a big risk on Keith Washington and Prattville is a big football school but it isn't exactly IMG, Cass Tech, etc.
