Dymonte Thomas on Track to Enroll Early

Per Ace's twitter, quoting Dymonte's twitter.  I won't post the tweet because the format always seems to get screwed up, but here's the quote and link:

"It's official if I score high enough on my ACT and I pass summer school for Spanish 2, I'm graduating early to go play football for Michigan."

http://twitter.com/#!/Dymonte1

Also:

"Bree Dunn just walked into my house with all of his OSU stuff on.  He's about to get beat up."

This should assuage any fears for those people scared he'd flip to OSU.  Then again, if you don't believe him yet, you probably won't until he signs.

I live a block away from Ben Gedeon I can tell you that he and Dymonte are friends and there is zero point zero chance of him getting flipped to OSU.  There's a better chance cousin Brionte changes HIS mind than Dymonte.

Yes I know Dunn has enrolled at OSU.  That's the point.

He was also convinced Heuerman was OSU-bound even after the kid's last trip to ND.  Ultimate homer.  Plays into their fan base by never giving bad news until it actually hits.  After spending some time on their boards I find it hilarious that Michigan fans are the ones who get the rep as arrogant (even though that's not unfounded).  OSU posters think they can have any recruit they want regardless of the kid's status, believe that after a year or two they'll win every national championship until Meyer retires, and think that there's a chance they'll go undefeated next year and the AP will declare them national champs despite their inability to play in the postseason.

I can't stand the guy either. The first time I was introduced to him was the recruiting roundtable thing around signing day that he did with Ace and that dude from Black Shoe Diaries(?). I can't remember any specific quotes, but he talked more than anyone and came across as an arrogant homer. He totally lacks professionalism. He's one of like 3 people on 11w who actually thinks they can flip Dymonte, and he has yet to give an actual reason other than Urban being a totally awesome recruiter who will get whoever he wants whenever he wants, just because he's Urban Meyer.

It's real hard for my fellow Ohioians to comprehend a very good player, that OSU really wants, actually preferring Michigan over Ohio State.  Remember, for the past decade (the Tressel years) the gates to Ohio were slammed shut.  If they wanted a kid - they got him....no questions asked.  Hoke has restored recruiting balance again (think 1970-2000) when it was usually 50-50 on the Northern Ohio kids.

They are basically in denial.  Which is why shortly after Dymonte enrolls you'll hear them saying "we never really wanted him anyways" or "he didn't have a committable offer" or some such nonsense like that.

Just for the purposes of a friendly debate let's look at the pro's of staying in High School versus early enrollment:

Early Enrollment

Start taking college classes, learn playbook, start weight training, play in Spring Game, live in dorm.

Stay in High School

Be insanely popular with chicks cause your the stud football player about to go D1 baby with a full ride, skate through remaining classes with little or no studying required, party ass off, live with parents

One could make a case that for a 17 year old (hell for a 52 year old) option B is fairly attractive

I think it's reasonable to guess that early enrollees don't struggle getting laid either--and they've got a much wider pool to pull from.

I felt like that last semester in high school was spent waiting to move on with my life and I would rather have already moved on. Basically, I'm not good at stopping to smell the roses.

Most high level recruits have a goal of making the NFL. If they want it that badly, moving to a college town 7-8 months early seems like a small price to pay. Even the kids who aren't enrolled have a strength program that the school wants them to follow.

It's all John Navarre's fault.

True. +1. Regardless, I was being sarcastic. I would almost enroll early just so I would have a good excuse to not have to go to prom. "Sorry ladies. The girls here are much much hotter."

Just because he is an early enrollee doesn't mean he can't get college girls and high school girls stil. If he stays in high school, most girls in college won't know who he is, and wouldn't give him the time of day. If he goes to college and just mentions he's on the football team that's instant putang.

The guy goes to college and he's getting girls 17-26 on the reg.

I am wondering if there is any stats on early enrolled and if they end up being more successful in college. It would be interesting to see if there is a correlation.

I like that Dymonte can joke about Brionte showing up in all of his tsiO gear.  I've read some of the posts from 11W stating that Urban can flip this kid.  The Kool-Aid must be mighty tasty in Ohio, because these folks are drinking it in cooler size quantities.

Between strength training, learning the playbook, Spring practice, easing into classwork, and taking classes Spring term, this seems like a great decision.

I know that up to 3 recruits can count against the previous class. How does Thomas enrolling early affect scholarship numbers?

Hoke has stated he is not really for early enrollees - I dont remember if he stated a specific reason.  But it probably goes along the feeling people have that is he more about the kid than just furthering himself.  I'd assume it would be to his advantage to have every minute possible with kids in spring practice and on campus, so 99% coaches would be pro-early enrollee.
