Dymonte Thomas Close to Committing?

Submitted by hart20 on

A lot of us were expecting Dymonte Thomas to commit this past weekend at the BBQ, but that obviously didn't happen. It looks like that decision might be coming soon though. In addition to his comments to WTKA and on Bri'onte Dunn's Facebook status (which has further descended into hilarity, with Big Ronnie arguing with another OSU fan), he's made a few more comments that look pretty good for us.  First, Dymonte writes on Shane Morris' wall saying,

"Ayyy. All of us need to chill again sometime soon.lol it was fun"

Shane Morris replys with,

"yeahh forsure broo, ill message you my numberr lemme know when yrr back in MI"

To which Dymonte Thomas says,

"Okay I will. It will prb be soon"

Also, some random guy writes on Dymonte Thomas' wall saying,

"When you gone commit to maize and blue. You knw you want to. Go blue"

And Dymonte Thomas says,

"Idk man lol I want to ha"  (!!!!)

And, some guy wrote "Go Blue" on Dymonte Thomas' wall and he liked that too

This obviously only looks good for us. He's saying he wants to commit, he's saying he'll be back in Michigan soon, and he's already friends with Shane Morris, and we know Shane Morris actively recruits for us. With this and the other stuff he's been saying, it pretty much looks like a matter of when he'll commit, not if he'll commit..

Then I figured because I'm actually around his age, it's not as weird/creepy as it would be if someone 20 years older than him posted it. I also thought of paraphrasing, but then I thought people would take issue with me for not accurately quoting them. Honestly, to me, Facebook is just like Twitter, just another source of news.

are the guys writing on his wall telling him to go blue. Unless they are friends and know each other leave the kids alone! Maybe they do know him (like in Morris's case) but I think it is even more liekly it is someone like mgo's own Chet who is doing this, and that makes me sick.

Honestly, I wish facebook would just cease to exist. I think the cons definitely outweigh the pros in the case of this and other social networking sites.

Would you still find this creepy if someone from Scout or Rivals stated the information in this format: According to Thomas, he is getting closer to committing to the Wolverines, as stated directly by him.

I, for one, do not see how it is creepy that someone is using a public forum (semi-public*) to produce their own news about a recruit who knowingly posted information to a site that is a well-known, non-private entity? Why does someone have to work for a newspaper or scout service to report direct quotes from a recruit?

Posting on the kid's wall itself though = Super Icky.  Not that I'm saying Hart20 did this, just referencing the weirdo fans who do.

speculation.  He will commit, or he won't.  The kids not even a senior yet and it seems like there is a daily post about whether he's going to or not.

Sorry, I really really want him to commit, and everything I've read looks good for us.  I just don't want to think about whether or not he will anymore.

Confusing too.  I don't even understand all the acronyms so that makes it even more creepy to me, like I'm listening in on a private conversation.  I'm really excited about this guy, but I also don't want or need to know all the intimate details.

Edit:  Is there any way we can have the OP's include something like FB in the title of the post so we know the source?  I keep thinking these posts have a little more substance than Facebook chatter.

More and more companies are releasing information via Facbook now, further legitamizing it as a news source. And wasn't it Terry Richardson who announced his commitment via Facebook? If it wasn't for people looking at his Facebook, we wouldn't have known he had committed until Hoke and Co. decided to tell us.

Not true. TomVH gives us all the recruiting news we need without facebook stalking. Facebook is not "legitimate" news. Its pretty much gossip, and thats what twitter is also. A HS soph/junior messing with creepy fans isnt news, its them being 16/17 and getting kicks out of fucking with you.

Unless the post says TomVH in front of it I'm going to from now on pretty much assume its useless like this OP has been.

gos·sip

1.
idle talk or rumor, especially about the personal or privateaffairs of others: the endless gossip about Hollywood stars.
2.
light, familiar talk or writing.
3.
Also, gos·sip·er, gos·sip·per. a person given to tattling oridle talk.
4.
Chiefly British Dialect a godparent.
5.

Archaic a friend, especially a woman.a woman.

If we go by the definiton of gossip, then 90% of this site could be considered gossip.

A lot of recruits are using Facebook and Twitter to release their top schools and what they think of schools after visits. Like it or not, things change. It may not be how it was when you were a kid in the good ol' days but it's how it is now. I'd really recommend you read this article: http://florence-bryan.blogspot.com/2010/02/facebook-and-twitter-legitimate-news.html

There's no real reason for you to be a dick. I posted something I thought would be interesting to other MGoBlog users, and if it's not interesting to you I'm sorry. At least I'm contributing instead of sitting and doing nothing but complain.

And doesn't TomVH have a Twitter? Where he posts stuff related to recruiting? But eh, according to you anything on Twitter is just gossip, whatever he posts is probably useless.

IMHO you are absolutely right.  We're fans (short for fanatics) and love rumors and gossip and being the first to hear about every little twist and turn in the ongoing recruiting battle for top notch high school recruits.

Speaking of gossip, and sorry if this is a thread jack, wtf happened last night with Tommy Schutt?  Is he visiting?  Is he not?  If not, why not?  TomVH only said that as far as he knows there is no status change with O'Brien and Pipkins.  I checked back a few times for an update and still don't know.  Anyone know what happened last night or was it just a baseless rumor?

Read this thread if you have time. It's pretty entertaining:

http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/dt-tommy-schutt-visiting-friday-no-longer-v…;

Cliffnotes: Schutt said he was going to visit out of the blue, but the coaches told him not to "because they already have a DT" according to Steve Wiltfong over at 24/7. So that made it sound like Pipkins committed, but no evidence has pointed towards that. So a lot of people here are mad that we turned down a visit from a 5* DT without getting anyone. Although, we can still take 2 DT if they are O'Brien and Pipkins, because O'Brien is a 3-tech while Schutt and Pipkins are 1-techs.

So basically, it was a complete clusterfuck that went nowhere

Yes, thanks Waggles.  That is exactly what I was talking about.  And count me among the "mad the coaches turned him away".  But there must be something more going on here.  The coaches wouldn't turn a guy like this away unless he had some unknown fatal flaw or that we were certain to get Pipkens or O'Brien or both.  I was just hoping for some "new" news or some clarification to what you so eloquently described as last nights clusterfuck.

Thanks to somebody else for stalking this guy's facebook...I guess. Regardless, I hope Dymonte commits, now or in the future, he would be an awesome member of Morris' 2013 class.

I'm surprised at the negative reaction some of you have to this. While exact quoting what goes on in the facebook wall posts is a bit unnecessary (could have just said he posted some things on facebook that were pro Wolverine) it's still interesting and not "icky" in my eyes.

If Dymonte Thomas or any other person would like any of us to never see those words he would set his facebook up so that it could only go to his friends or whatever else.

You shouldn't feel bad about seeing something that he releases to the public on the internet.

Facebook is a form of putting information in to the public's eye.  News is news, and while this may not have warranted a daily thread (though I enjoyed reading it), it did contain some information that I thought was interesting to the Wolverine fanbase.

Some people need to get off their rocking chairs, put away their shotguns and let those damned kids play on their lawn.  They're just trying to have fun.

Hahaha I don't feel icky at all reading it because I'm only one class below Dymonte and already have three mutual friends with him on facebook.

Love this generation.!

...about how perusing Facebook statuses and associated comments is basically the same as reading a conversation conducted via tweets.  Social media tools and their attendant culture seemingly challenge our notions of privacy and propriety.  It's absolutely true that people (including recruits) feel comfortable having conversations with total strangers as well as conversations with friends, family and acquaintances via these media and explicitly accept the consequences of such openness.  This behavior seems strange to many (but certainly not all) older folks.

As any parent of teenagers can attest, divining the meaning of the FB and Twitter musings of 16-18 yr old kids is often an exercise in futility. It's wise not to get too hyped up on these sorts of conversations that seem more like cast off comments than anything else. That said, it's certainly good news that Thomas and Morris seem to be developing a rapport.

get off these kids facebook and twitter accounts.  It's not just creepy it's intrusive and borderline inappropriate.  I just dont' want Michigan Fans to start to look like OSU fans.   Sorry for the get off my lawn rant but.

On Scout everyone would be praising the OP and Dymonte Thomas would have 15 new friend requests this morning.

On this board, people aren't a douche about it...but just honest. It's weird and it makes people uncomfortable. As it should.

I'm not a huge fan of the facebook stalk discussion, but make no mistake: If Dymonte or anyone else didn't want the attention, they could make that stuff private immediately. It's not like people are hacking in (at least I hope not...) and reporting private conversations.

if dymonte is willing to put it on facebook it will end up spreading anyways, so even if you feel icky it's no big deal unless we actually talk to him and act as a booster.
