Please be good. Please.

They've scored at least 4 goals in each of their preseason games so far. Small sample size and preseason caveats apply, but I'm optimistically excited for Blashill's updated system that emphasizes speed and "high impact events" rather than Babcock's "get two goals and shut 'er down" style.

Larkin just had a second one waived off due to "goaltender interference"

As much as I love UM hockey, Larkin clearly made the right choice. He's just too damn talented to be wasting his talents playing a lower level

I really didn't want him to leave.
But if he spends the year with the Big Club, the wisdom of his choice will be unquestionable.

with Ken Holland at intermission of the 2nd game with Chicago earlier this week and he made it sound like he wanted to let Larkin play a season in Grand Rapids (or at least start there), but the implication in his choice of words was that Larkin was playing so good in camps and exhibition that they might not be able to let him sit in GR. I think I could see Larkin as high as on a 2nd line with the Wings surrounded by vets (much like how the Wings broke in Datsyuk with Brett Hull). Based on pre-season play, looks like the Wings have:
1st Line: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Abdelkader
2nd Line: Richards, Franzen, Tatar
3rd Line: Helm, Nyquist, Miller
4th Line: Glendenning, Ferraro/Jurco, Andersson/Sheahan
Holland has said he wants Larkin to play some power play time and big minutes. If Helm or another skill forward gets hurt, I'm guessing Larkin is first up from GR and is playing 3rd line minutes with maybe some second PP unit time. Glendenning I think has a chance to surpass Helm as 3rd line C by end of the year.
As an aside, I'm really interested in how our D performs. I think the potential is there for a top unit if health stays on the good side. I like the Ericksson/Kronwall & Green/DeKuyser pairings. If Quincy/Kindle/Smith can make a solid 3rd pairing, that will really reduce the stress on the top pair and probably extend their usefulness in the long season.

Glad to see the Mule back in action. Worried about his future though. He's one big hit away from retirement.

That 3rd goal (around 2:00) is just a beautiful play. The future of this team looks bright.

Our young guys looked good last night. The plays developed slow compared to a regular season or playoff game. I still saw good hands and stick play and speed, lots of speed. These young kids are big too! Those things I think you can get excited about, preseason or not.
Also anyone else like the 3 on 3? I thought it was awesome!

Preseason hockey = preseason football. It means just about nothing. If you look at some of the rosters these teams are putting out theres only about 3-4 regulars, and half the time they're doing split swuad games.

Didn't get to watch the game but how did the young defensemen look?
September 25th, 2015 at 9:38 AM ^
but many regulars such as Malkin were in for the Pens last night (although Gonchar should have stayed home). Same with the Blackhawks the game before (also a lopsided RW win). Yeah, it is preseason but I think you have to feel good about the youth, speed and skill of these guys. Datsyuk will be back early in the season and all three goalies have looked good ( Murray was excellent last night). Lots of reason for optimism and keeping the playoff streak alive.
The 3 v 3 definitely is fun to watch.
