Congrats hopefully that can stand for awhile. Think about the players that have tried to beat that make and failed.
Sergei Federov
Marion gaborick to name a few.

Larkin had a running start from the blue line. Gartner and friends had to start standing still at the center stripe. Larkin's the man, but that's a gigantic advantage.

Looked like Larkin wanted to start at the red line but the ref messed up and made him start at the blue line. His slip may have been impacted by his stick hitting the advertisement on the dot, though, which Gartner didn't have to deal with. In the end, you can't really compare the times. Bad planning by the organizers.

If they did that competition when Paul Coffey was young he would own that record. Even Gartner has said so in the past. If it was 2 laps timed I don't think anyone could stay with a prime Sergei tho. He was the fastest thru the turns I've ever seen.

Yostbuilt points out that Michigan guys have won 3 of the last 5 fastest skater competitions (Cogliano in 09, Hagelin in 12, couple of years where it wasn't played). That's astonishing. These are the best players from everywhere we're talking about.

that the Red Wings were frequently without any Michigan players. (I only remember 1 from my childhood and early adult years). Now, we have 2 and Larkin is probably going to be a perennial All-Star. (Sighs happily)
