DVR reminder/Open thread: Mens BBall USA vs Dominican Republic
Game is on ESPN 9:00 Eastern
Interesting game because of a couple M connections.
Current Wolverine John Horford plays for the Dominican as well as former Wolverine Josh Asselin (Go Caro).
Here's a preview of the game http://www.faniq.com/blog/USA-Basketball-Exhibition-vs-Dominican-Republic-Preview-Blog-52196
I thought the Michigan basketball program had debunked the idea that Jon Horford was on the Dominican Republic's roster. He was just practicing with the team.
Based on previous info you've given; I'm going to assume you're correct :( guess I will have to root for Asselin
There is a Horford on the team. He's just not our Horford. http://www.latinbasket.com/Dominican-Republic/basketball-National-Team.asp
Yes but I thought both Horford's were playing. Bummer.
Can the Domincans cover the 41 point spread?
Pretty sad huh. One of the higher paid athletes in the NBA and he can't make one of the worst international teams.
would rather have a 16 year old rising sophomore who just happens to be the #1 2015 BB recruit according to ESPN. I'm sure the choice was simply for basketball reasons though.
Is there any age limit for the Olympics? I didn't realize players that young could compete.
I think USA is going to win this one.
In other news Andre Drummond got the better of Fab Melo in summer league action. Highlights at NBA.com

I've seen enough. Josh Asselin buries a corner jumper!!
Where is Vegas is it played? Based on the footage from the ESPYs the other day it seemed like they were at the XS pool.
Has it been explained how Asselin is eligible to play for the DR?
He previously played pro ball in the DR and then eventually gained citizenship there.
From an mlive article:
Since graduating in 2001, his professional career has taken Asselin all across the world, including the Dominican Republic, Ukraine and several seasons in Spain where he maintains a home. . . . Asselin holds dual citizenship in the United States and the Dominican Republic.
that is all
16 year olds can compete in many sports, I think 14 year olds compete in figure skating at the winter olympics but maybe I'm not right on that
This team could beat the Dream Team is a fool. The Dream team had 11 hall of famers! This team has what, 3?
