DurkinWatch: Baltimore Sun Reports MD to Interview Multiple Candidates Monday
I'm not sure if this was in the prior Durkin thread, but it seems newsworthy enough that it shouldn't be buried.
THE GOOD:
The sports blog ajerseyguy.com reported Sunday that Michigan defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin will be in College Park on Monday and is expected to sign a contract, but a Maryland athletic department spokesman said Sunday he has no knowledge of that being true. Yahoo Sports reported last week that Durkin had been interviewed for the job.
At least provides some reason to think that DJ is not yet a done deal.

Oh be careful, you're posting a report from credible beat writers so Dawggoblue will mention you in his next poorly written thread!

Anyone know when Jordan Elliott will be making his decision?

Seems like the Sun writer was kind of talking up Reich, which may mean absolutely nothing, of course.

The third one?

a thousand year contract
November 29th, 2015 at 8:18 PM ^
Well, that will be the initial plan anyway. But then for some reason Durkin will choose to invade Maine in the dead of winter with insufficient supplies for his troops, leading to the Siege of Bangor...
November 29th, 2015 at 8:23 PM ^
will never happen... their mascot turtle and their blitzkrieg strategy do not make a good match.
November 29th, 2015 at 9:54 PM ^
They like him because they think he'd be there for a while. They're sick of changing coaches, they're looking for a final solution.
I'll show myself out.
November 29th, 2015 at 8:08 PM ^
several names that might seem to have better resumes than Durkin, at least at first glance.
November 29th, 2015 at 8:45 PM ^
Let's hope so! There a few head coaches with experience that are available. Maryland can't afford to make a wrong choice. They should take a proven guy (fingers crossed).

Wait so you're telling me www.ajerseyguy.com is not a reliable source?
November 29th, 2015 at 8:11 PM ^
Crazy thought. Gonna have to reevaluate some things in my life.
November 29th, 2015 at 8:34 PM ^
can't even spell Joisey.
November 29th, 2015 at 8:12 PM ^
Durkin is going to be so pissed to hear this.
November 29th, 2015 at 8:12 PM ^
Pics, or it didn't happen.
November 29th, 2015 at 8:13 PM ^
Sounds to me Durkin isn't in the running anymore if he interviewed already and now they're interviewing more people.
I still think their new coach will be Dan Mullen.

Could be that they're just evaluating all their options. Although if they can get Dan Mullen I dunno why they'd take a chance on a coordinator with no prior HC experience. Mullen also fits with the offensive minded coach that they want to pair with their new big time QB recruit.
November 29th, 2015 at 8:38 PM ^
Mullen can do better. He could well have the Georgia or South Carolina jobs, or he could sit tight a couple years for PSU to come open, as seems likely.
November 30th, 2015 at 11:57 AM ^
Or maybe Durkin was less than impressed with their offer and turned them down....
November 29th, 2015 at 8:16 PM ^
Durkin dodges this bullet. Maryland is, how should I say? A complete shit show that is destined to occupy the basement of an incredibly difficult division.
November 29th, 2015 at 8:28 PM ^
As someone who lives in Maryland, I'm tempted to say the Rutgers job might be better than the Maryland job. At least the Rutgers' fan base cares more about football than Maryland fans do.
November 29th, 2015 at 8:46 PM ^
Only makes sense if he's pursuing the Gary Moeller career path
November 30th, 2015 at 12:26 AM ^
I'm confused, you say Maryland, but you just described Rutgers in that last sentence.

Whoo, I can at least sleep well for at least one night

#nodedication

Only between the Game and the selection of the bowl game...then no sleeping until the bowl game is over...followed by a brief nap until the 2016 Student Directory is released, which preceeds many hours and days of no-sleepy time.
November 29th, 2015 at 8:32 PM ^
While a loss seemed inevitable, at least he could have concentrated more on his duty on hand.
November 29th, 2015 at 10:10 PM ^
Bo probably would have fired a DC that went on a job interview during the week before the OSU game.
And to be honest, I blame most of the points scored against us on Durkin, even with the injuries and crap LB's.
If he wants to leave, fine. I'm sure Harbaugh will find someone better to replace him.
November 29th, 2015 at 8:47 PM ^
I still haven't seen much credible evidence that Durkin even interviewed.
I got a Yahoo story that he interviewed, no one else. And then www.ajerseyguy.com saying a contract is done, when no one else is.
When stuff is happening during coaching searches when there's noise, usually several sources will be saying different things. The two one-offs have me wondering if Durkin's done anything more than interviewed
November 29th, 2015 at 8:49 PM ^
Frank Reich is Maryland's Harbaugh.
November 29th, 2015 at 9:07 PM ^
Good call by acnumber1. Frank Reich would be a solid choice for Maryland.
Hoping D.J. is with us a few more years.
November 29th, 2015 at 9:39 PM ^
San Diego is good in total offense but their offensive efficiency is middle of the pack. I'm not sure if he's the guy to take Maryland to their 7-8 win ceiling in this division.
November 29th, 2015 at 10:02 PM ^
San Diego has also sufferred a rash of injuries on the OL this year, and has played with 18 different versions of an Offensive Line this season alone. Frank Reich would be credible selection for Maryland, and would be missed by the Chargers
November 29th, 2015 at 10:50 PM ^
I'd go with him as the architect of a rebuilt Maryland program.
November 30th, 2015 at 1:05 AM ^
Both Reich and Harbaugh were QBs. Both led their teams to some amazing victories. Both had success (albeit not as great) in the pros. I lived in Buffalo during the time Reich backed up Jim Kelly and while he wasn't the gunslinger Kelly was, Reich was a brainy guy who when given time to prepare and a good game plan could execute. He led the Bills to the greatest comeback ever against then Houston Oilers.

November 29th, 2015 at 9:01 PM ^
The only thing is that quote from the article:
a Maryland athletic department spokesman said Sunday he has no knowledge of that being true.
That sounds rather evasive. I mean, that's what I would say if I wanted to give a sort of non-denial denial.
November 29th, 2015 at 9:03 PM ^
Can Rich Rod please leave for a fire fire job like this so I can laugh at all the Arizona fans who talk shit at us
November 29th, 2015 at 9:19 PM ^
I can't imagine they're still doing that after this season.
November 29th, 2015 at 11:21 PM ^
No one here in Tucson really gives a damn about Arizona football.
November 29th, 2015 at 9:04 PM ^
Maryland is notoriously known for leaks out of the athletic department. The Edsall firing leak has cost quite a few people's jobs in the AD. So we'll see

who replaces him.? Hate to see a guy leave only after one year. Seems like Harbaugh would have asked a couple of these guys to stay a least 2-3 years. Guess all assistants want a gig at some point.
November 29th, 2015 at 9:30 PM ^
I think Mike London should and would be considered. He is a good D coordinator with experience at a great academic university and recruited well while at UVA.
November 29th, 2015 at 9:43 PM ^
London has only been strictly a DC for two years in his first stint at UVA in 06-07. Pretty sure he can thank Chris Long and a few other players on that Defense for building his resume so he could take the Richmond HC job. Judging by how UVA has done while he's been the HC, I don't think he would be a DC target at a big program like UM until he proves he is more capable.
