Duke- a microcosm

Submitted by mghorm on

Lookingback at highlights and reading everything i can that says were gonna be sweet next year made me realize that the duke game mirrored our season remarkable well. The game started off pretty well with duke just edgin us out before halftime. Then shit got real. Duke stormed out the gate maintaining a double digit lead until we switched to the 1-3-1 and decided we weren't going away. Playing scrappy D with gritmonster's diving for balls and morris and THJ putting fear into the hearts of the blue devils everytime they touched the ball, we got the double digit lead down to two. Unfortunately, like all good things, it had end, with our dreams bouncing off the back iron.

The season started off as well as anyone expected. Beating the teams we were supposed to even culminating in an overtime loss to kansas (Vogrich's missed three at the end of the first half. Then we sucked. We got rocked to start the big ten schedule, starting 1-6 with a complete collapse against indiana. Then we played MSU. Morris and THJ decided they were going to dominate then rest of the team followed suit. Finishing the season 8-3 michingan played their way into the tournament. Then after a dominant effort agianst tennessee we saw the toughest michigan in my lifetime fall to a great duke team.

With our cinderella story gone we can look forward to not sneaking up on anyone next year. After showing the country that we are for real, they know who we are and they know we are coming.

So I went to the game on Friday and sat with a bunch of Carolina grads who were there for the spectacle and the enjoyment of heckling Duke.  It began the moment that the Duke band began to take their seats during the Michigan game.  It was outstanding.  They pulled no punches when it came to Kyle Singler once he stepped on the court for warmups.  Carolina fans hate him with a passion.  Granted, its not all that difficult to dislike him, but these guys took it to such a level that I started to feel bad for the kid.  That said, I was laughing the entire time.

Please keep these coming. I must have spent half the game against Duke wondering what dimension this guy came from. When he gets to the NBA he's gonna be on the All-Alien Team with Cassell, Rondo, Kaman, and Noah in a heartbeat.

at the imbedded picture comparisons. You all are killin' me. Every one is good, especially the female (can't remember her name). Singler is quite talented, effective, and is still developing. I'm going to hold out on making predictions on his NBA potential. I thought he could have been more aggressive in the game. Whatever. I love the direction of the UM basketball program. I love Coach B. He is the real deal. Go Blue
