DT Tommy Schutt visiting Friday? (*No longer visiting, possible commitment?)
Steve Wiltfong- Major changes regarding Top247 DT Tommy Schutt and his recruitment. Could visit Michigan on Friday. 247sports.com/Article/Change… via @247Sports
EDIT:
Steve Wiltfong- Just got word that Tommy Schutt will no longer be visiting Michigan. The staff asked him not to. Things could be developing in AA.
UPDATE:
Reports now that there is no commitment.
So we got a commit? Whoopee!!!
<br>
I like what you did there, sir!
Pipkins do the right thing!
This thread has evolved over the course of 80 posts. It started of with discussion of Schutt as a prospect, transitioned into excitement over the prospect of getting schutt, and is now coming around to learning that schutt may have gotten edged out by another yet-to-be-named DT commit. This twists and turns just keep coming!
I have no problem with the staff choosing Pipkins over Schutt, if that's indeed what happened. While it may be a nice confirmatory measure, I sure hope the staff doesn't recruit based upon a third party star system. Besides, the two are ranked so close that placing one over the other is likely subjective anyway. The unfortunate consequence is that Schutt could end up at Penn State or Wisconsin.
I'm having a hard time figuring out what you meant Do you really think there is ANY chance the staff is relying on recruiting rankings rather than their own judgment?
They've obviously been recruiting Pipkins hard and it sounded like he might be on the verge of commiting anyway. It wouldn't make much sense to suddenly prefer someone ranked slightly higher. Especially someone who hadn't previously shown much interest in UM..
This thread is a fun way to wait for code to run.
is anybody supposed to get any work done??
8-/ ---> 8-\ ----> 8-]
and why should anybody automatically believe anything he writes?
Writes for 247. And he isn't named Ace.
A 247 guy says Schutt is visiting U-M. Then an hour later he says he is not visiting.
Now he says Michigan may have added a DT recruit, but he isn't sure.
Call me a cynic, but this seems like manufacturing news to get page hits...
It's not possible to be too cynical in this day and age.
Schutt surely does love to celebrate his plays.
...Act like you've been there before are long gone I'm afraid.
You should watch this young fellow with a bright smile play...
Denard is his name, I do believe.
Touché
You're a cynic.
If true, very disappointing. Wouldn't you let him visit at least? He's pretty damn good...
i suppose recruiting really is going well when you have to turn away a 5* DT
Notre Dame just did the same thing.....but they did have a 5 star DT who had just signed. I hope the staff has good news on Pipkins and O'Brien and that is why they are saying no to Schutt.
Yeah, it's strange. Schutt's like a really hot, nice girl who can't get laid no matter what she does.
Maybe the coaches don't want someone that hot distracting teammates in the locker room.

Talk about drama...this thread has it ALL!
Buckle up, bitches!
Loved reading your comment in the voice of your avatar. Just worked so well on this one.
The committ will be Shittu and the most mysterious thread of all time will literally blow up all of our computers or phones. Its the first real sign of the 2012 theory.
If Schutt has truly been turned away (which I have a tough time believing) then it could only mean that they have both Pipkins and Obrien or they are staying on their word taking only one DT and they have either Pipkins (most likely) or Obrien.
If the staff remains this steadfast to their word on taking just one DT and turn away a 5* DT that would also mean they feel pretty damn good about the quality of the remaining scholarships with names like Dunn and Daborah filling the final five.
In any event as weird as turning Schutt away might be, if true, is actually some good news as logic would dictate. Or Schutt is trouble and being a Glenbard kid with his grades-this is also highly unlikely.
Help us out here Tom!!
Tom swung by earlier in the thread, letting us know that Schutt's coaches were fans of Michigan and Big Ten schools in general.
I saw that but with recent developments that comment is no longer exciting.
FWIW Helmholdt of Rivals saying no DT commitments as of yet, but he's not done contacting all of his sources.
Being pretty well connected to people at Flint Powers, I don't believe this is Mr. O'Brien. Although, i will of course bow the knowledge of Godin's brother. It's just I know the Chaplain at Powers, and he's good at knowing these things.
Especially when it seems he's really enamored with SEC schools.

With Kelly accepting a commitment from Day when he knew Schutt was going to commit tuesday and Hoke telling Schutt not to come because of O'brien and Pipkins tells me that Schutt is overrated by recruiting sites.
I'm excited if it's Pipkens, but we need 2 DTs. You can't literally turn away a talent like Schutt.
Now if it's Pip and Shittu (or another combo of 2 DTs), fine
Shittu is a Cal lock unless they tank this season.
He isn't a lock.
cal is likely to see a coaching change this year, I don't think they have locks until they're at least bowl eligible
Cal is not at all likely to see a coaching change this year.
What a weiiiird string of events.
What the fuck is going on? Are we really turning away Schutt when we don't have someone else just as good in the fold? Dare we say first big recruiting blunder from the staff?
Telling Reeves we're out and accepting Wayne Morgan's supa-soft commit seem like misplays to me.
Dare I say you probably dont know what the fuck you are talking about? Try not basing your construction of reality on internet gossip.
We can rest assured that 1) our version of the underlying events of MIchigan recruiting have less than a 1% correlation to reality; and 2) Hoke & Co. know 99% more about recruiting than anyone here does.
Levying accusations while ignoring those truths is the real blunder.
