That is a scary sentence to read as it is basically verbatim what I said during the Hoke hire.  Ever since, I have made an early judgment and committed to it with Mich football..  To each their own though..  Therefore my judgment on this decision is.....(drumroll).....: I am not a fan of it, I would like Harbaugh to call them and let Drevno work into it at such a large program or until they learn the team.

That all being said, I will trust the process, and trust the fact that I know less about football than Harbaugh has forgotten since he started.  So I hope I am wrong and I will be excited to hear "I told you so" from you!

They know each other well. They have coached together at San Diego, Stanford, and San Fran. JH will dictate what the offense looks like and will develop game plans for each opponent. Obviously, JH trusts Drevno.

When I read the really technical stuff on this blog I realize I really don't know that much about football.  Still, I know a hell of a lot more than more casual fans.  Yet everyone - I mean everyone - thinks they know more about playcalling than the professional coaches.  I think playcalling is stylistic.  Once the staff knows exactly how Harbaugh feels about the risk/reward scenarios of various playcalling schemes, it probably doesn't matter who actually calls the plays.

This x100. In general the play calling is extremely methodical. Especially in a pro style offense. You may run 3 plays over the course of a quarter knowing it's going to be a loss, just so you can set up a play action or a run out of the same set and movement. Trying to get a linebacker or safety/corner to bite on a play so you can get a big gain. Not that every play call is to set up something else, but when you see the same play being called and no gain every time it's for that reason. Opposing coaches know it as well, it's just a player will react in a split second and it may open the field for you.

That's one school of play-calling.  Some teams will indeed try to establish a tendency so they can then break that tendency and hit a big-gainer.  But there are different schools of thought on this. Some teams have more of a "take what the defense gives us" type of approach.  And then other guys just try to score on every down.

Does anyone know if drevno or jh called the plays at San Diego? I was under the impression that jh has been the play caller at all stops where he has run the show

I have no way of knowing if this is a good or bad decision but I honestly believe that if Harbaugh had just announced that his pet cat Fluffy will be calling the plays by channeling the spirit of Bo and relaying his suggestions in the form of cat turds at LEAST 75% of the board would post support of this move.

I don't know, I haven't seen anyone on this thread refer to the move as a sign of brilliance. It's more something of note for how the team will be run. I look at it more as following Harbaugh's plea to the faithful that everyone that is for us is for us. I have no insight into whether Drevno is the right man for the job but if Harbaugh thinks he is, then I'm for it.
