Drake Johnson has knee surgery

Submitted by GoWings2008 on

I haven't seen this one posted yet, but thought I'd share.  247 reporting that Drake had surgery, I think this morning, on his knee injured vs osu.  They say he'll most likely miss Spring ball, but should be okay for the 2015 season.

As one of the few bright spots from this year's team, I hope he makes a full recovery.

In my experience with these things - especially if it is a re-injury... the MRI can be confusing since now there are potential interfering variables like scar tissue from the previous.  Not totally out of the ordinary that they waited this long.

with Drake, but that is my worry as well.  He's definitely going to be fighting an uphill battle with his recovery and rehab.  It's going to make our RB recruiting for 2015 and 2016 all the more important I think.  I'm hoping that someone like Jim H will be able to pull Mike Weber back away from the Evil Empire.

I still think about how he was more or less put into games late in the season and was immediately effective, even to the point of this being one of my bones of contention with the staff and measuring talent. I really did enjoy Johnson's contributions to this team and his flashes of Mike Hart-ish second effort and movement.

Hopefully, his recovery is full and speedy and we get a chance to see more of him next year.

because even with all the injuries UM still had enough talent on the field to beat the likes of Rutgers and Maryland, and get at least take one of three from ND, Utah and Minnesota. Maybe with fewer injuries we do all that but take 2 of 3.

However I think lost in all the Brandon-Hoke hysteria was how many injuries the team had. Drake Harris may have been a contributor, I don't think Devin was ever right, plus the aforementioned Morgan, Peppers and Green. It was just a terrible season all around, top to bottom, east to west.

The fact that Hoke & Co. failed to recognize who the BEST RB on the roster was, for almost an entire season, and did not play him due to his recruiting ranking...shows how inept he and his staff are in evaluating talent.

Injuries are no excuse for incompetent coaching.  Every team has them.  Hell, they lucked in to Drake Johnson via injuries to other players.

Your experience is not encouraging and, should that be the case with Drake, it would really be a shame for all of us.  The kid committed to UM as soon as he was offered and was low on the deep list until he proved his talents to the coaches.

And then.........we was stunning in his first game with a fantastic future in store, but then the second injury.

But query........how intensive were your rehab programs the second time around?  Were they similar to what we might expect for Drake at UM?

I just hope he comes back.

Drake is a great example of how the recruiting rankings are BS when it comes to evaluating most RBs.  He obviously is a FAR better back than Green or Smith... faster, more elusive, better vision and burst and better power.  He also is a better pass catcher and showed that he can throw the ball too.

No other big time program recruited Drake out of HS...why?  Because the league he played in.  He is one of the state of Michigan's all time HS RBs and no one wanted him.  Sounds a lot like Mike Hart doesnt it?

Drake is currently the best RB on the roster, if healthy.  Perhaps Ty Issac is on his level too.. based on his flashes at USC, he may well be.

Lets hope so, because the other RBs on the roster are far below in terms of talent, ability and desire.

Get well soon Drake.
