this week in unintentionally grim-sounding recruiting headlines
If this Drake Harris kid decommits from MSU and goes to #scUM he better keep his ass out of East Lansing. #chump
Mark Dantonio sure teaches 'em right.
Character = cursing at 17 year olds over their college choice
To them is delvon roe ripping on denard and comparing our Alabama game to the Penn state scandal. Funny though, denard is on the cover of ncaa 14 and delvon roe won't even be on the cover of 'whatever happened to...' magazine
You're selling Roe short. Don't you remember all of those feelgood ESPN clips of him as a budding actor at MSU? We'll see Mr. Roe again. He's destined for theatrical greatness.
He's a stand-in for bit players in B-movies. Big Quitter Roe is a bigger turd than Valenti, if that's possible.
So if he does flirt with Alabama or any of those other schools on his list, lets be sure to avoid melting down and doing the same thing.
I agree, but it's a much different situation. He's not committed to us and has openly expressed a desire to visit several other schools. Not to mention, given the developments over the past few weeks, Sparty should have seen this coming.
need to remember how some of our fans treated David Dawson.
Instead of casting stones, maybe we should wash our glass windows. They seem to be a bit blurry right now
they aren't blurry at all. In fact they are so clean that many of us don't even know they are there and start hurling stones.
I know most of us are in the group of fans who would fit the classification of "reasonable" fans, but some aren't, which leads to things like the David Dawson bashing. I wish everyone could keep things in perspective when following recruiting but unfortunately, not all can and our fan base is probably no better at doing that than many others.
It might seem like we're above that here because most of us are pretty reasonable. But there are lots of UM fans who, because of their irrational nature and blatant homerism, choose not to frequent this site because here they are constantly called to task for it.
share a beer with. Many of them are just fans of Michigan Football, the rest is lost on them. I don't hold myself responsible for their actions. My windows are fine, as long as we do a fair job around here, I'm happy.
I don't like this logic. Every fan base has jackasses who do this kind of thing. That's obvious, but that doesn't mean that every fan base behaves similarly. I'd be willing to bet that if you compared the typical reaction of Michigan fans to Dawson's decommitment to the typical reaction of MSU fans to Harris's decommitment, you'd see very different behavior. For example, I just looked at the Dawson decommitment post on MGoBlog. The overwhelming majority of posts were "good luck to the kid wherever he ends up" and/or "damn, this one hurts." The few harsh posts were down-voted and criticized sharply. The RCMB reaction to Harris was completely different. Looking now, you can see a number of posts that were deleted (but preserved because people responded to them) that wished injury upon Harris. The majority of posts called him entitled, wished him the worst, attacked his parents, or were otherwise very harsh.
The fact that we have some idiots doesn't mean that we rival their idiocy.
...but whenever we lose a basketball game, our players are apparently all weak, spineless wimps with no effort and no heart. We might be better but we are far from good.
And lets be honest, if the short list for Drake Harris is shaping up to be Alabama, Florida, Ohio, and Michigan, with one of his goals being competing for a championship, we've got the toughest sell in that arena.
Second toughest sell. Florida would likely be a tougher sell.
The question is: is it easier to go through the B1G undefeated, or go through the SEC with no more than one loss?
The argument can be made that it's easier to run the table in the B1G. If that's the case, Michigan would be a better choice than UF.
I don't think that UF is ready to go through the SEC with fewer than two losses.
Any road that goes through Alabama is a dead end.
maybe, but when he has always loved Michigan football, the sell gets a bit easier.
Good thing we're a helluva lot closer then, as his family being able to watch him is a big factor as well.
And his dad is a lifelong Michigan fan who can give him perspective. That Michigan was nearly in the title game as recently as 2006, why the drop- off and how Michigan is trending upward with Hoke and the way he's recruiting.
I find it funny the people who think Alabama or USC have always been dominant. College football is cyclical and it's not difficult to see where Michigan will be in the near future.
During the RR era they kept talking about how the gap was closing and MSU football (like basketball) will take over the state. I remember when Baker and Caper committed to them he was talking smack about how they got two RB's with Michigan offers. Now all of the sudden he doesn't care abour recruiting and its all about coaching up 3 stars. He knows, with Hoke at Michigan, Meyer at Ohio, and Kelly at ND, State will always be on the outside looking in for these type of recruits.
"Drake's entire family is fed up with Sparty Fans."
Sparty is gonna Sparty. They recruit nationally they don't need Harris anyways.
He has talked about visiting Ohio, Florida and Alabama. Also he said one reason he was at Michigan for three weeks in a row was that there he wanted to see the basketball games. I think Michigan has put themselves in a great position in Drake but I don't think it is realistic to expect a quick commitment from him.
I think he said he wants to commit in October, just something I recall reading back when he decommitted from MSU.
Thanks for this. I don't venture outside of MGoBlog much to follow recruiting, so I often wonder why these kids haven't committed yet when every single sign seems favorable for us.
Would love to see him in a winged helmet representing the greatest University in the world.
so he is a bandwaggon fan? I bet he liked the Yankee and is a Heat fan.
...and whoever won the last Super Bowl. Love that team with that one guy on offense who made those touchdowns.
When people cheer for Msu basketball and M football. That being said, if it lands us his commitment, I'm gonna be okay with that. Secondly, I think it is funny how Spartan fans talk about this kid not having the character to be a Spartan. Would that be the same classy character we are talking about with say....Brian linthicum or something? Or delvon roe? Classy Twitter gents those two are, amirite?
I think you can be a casual fan of both programs, but once you reach the fan level of the outcome of a game affecting the rest of your day...There can be only one.
I will even admit, I was a fan of both until about the time I got to high school. I was more Michigan, but I cheered for Msu too because it was a state pride thing. The 2001 game changed me though.
No one in my family had attended either Michigan or State, so I didn't have a natural lean towards either school. I started watching sports in the late 70's. At that time, Michigan had the great football team and was on TV all the time, so I loved them. Michigan State was going through the Magic Johnson era and I loved them (even though they plummeted right after he left.).
It wasn't until I went to Michigan that I actually switched my allegiance over to Michigan.
You must be wrong about the year. There wasn't a Michigan vs. MSU football game in 2001.
You can't convince me otherwise. It never happened. Never.
I agree with you about the split fandom but Drake is in High School right now. So...Yeah.
Spartan "character" means that you're willing to go into a dorm to beat up a bunch of engineering students.

I like how his dad talked about the people who "put on a facade" and "act as if they care", but he also basically said that Drake has taken it in stride and has mentioned that he does plan to carry on as he wants with his recruitment regardless of the negative commentary.
It also seems that Harris was heckled at a game the other night too - chants of "traitor" coming from the crowd there to watch his team play. I can only shake my head at that one.
Was that the same game as the, uh, incident? Maybe if he was being heckled all night it's a little more understandable. I'd be pissed too.
It's sad that people take out their frustrations on a 17yr old, who's making a decision that legitimately affects the rest of their life
This is a good reminder on how not to act when a young man de-committs from us in the future. I think most on this blog know this but there are a few out there. 18 year olds will be 18 years olds, dont stoop to Sparty level and crticize these guys.
Drake, come join the good guys.
Drake said that he probably won't consider a second commitment decision until October. While he could certainly commit before then, I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing a Hello post for him anytime soon.
Definitely looks good (OP) but don't expect a quick commitment. Like I said in the other thread, he already has plans to visit OSU, Florida, and FSU in the coming weeks and doesn't want to recommit until this fall (specifically mentioning October) and enroll early at his future college. Obviously hope it's here but I wouldn't expect to hear anything soon on him. This process looks like it's just getting started.
I hope he dosen't decide to be "different" like Damon Webb.
The thing I don't like here is the basking in the Sparty meltdown, because until he signs with us, it can also happen to us, and karma is a bitch... so lets STFU about it.
Can't imagine things would go down like that here. He was committed to them for the better part of a year before he bailed. He hasn't committed to us (yet) and even if he did, it would be easier to swallow missing one person while still being surrounded with classes of solid 4-5 star athletes. He was pretty much all Sparty had, lol.
hope to have Mr Harris in Ann Arbor
