Dr. Saturday: Hoke Carries A Big Gun
Here is a story on Hoke and what his original "dream job" was prior to the UM coaching gig.
Sounds about right. The more I learn about this guy, the more interesting he becomes.

Every time I read stuff like this, I can't help but ask myself: "Jim Harbaugh, Who?"
October 7th, 2011 at 4:24 PM ^
Harbaugh worked a miracle at Stanford and is out to a 3-1 start in the NFL with a mediocre roster of talent. Evidence suggests he's pretty darn good.
Don't know why we feel the need to diss one guy to endorse another.

Sadly, there is a sizeable contingent of "Michigan fans" who can't endorse Hoke without slagging RR, Harbaugh, or both. The only grade RR can be given, but the standards of none other than that consummate Michigan Man, Bo Schembechler, is an "incomplete" because he wasn't given the five years Bo felt any coach should get.
Harbaugh can't even be given an incomplete because he didn't register for class. Hoke is doing a very good job so far and Harbaugh is doing a very good job so far. They aren't mutually exclusive.

Probably a pretty decent 2011 season, only to witness a dropoff in 2012 and beyond resulting from a major depth deficiency in OL and DL depth. Notre Dame, anyone? (sorry, that was a bit gratuitous). Also, he wouldn't have capitalized on the O$U implosion in nearly the same way that Brady would have. Nothing against the guy. He just didn't have a good recipe long term in the B10.

WTF?
EDIT: Sorry. The above was just an intilal reaction to reading your post. Nothing you typed has any basis in reality. That is unless you knew that RR's long-term plan included GERG (I doubt it).

imo, the only thing that would have held RR back from having huge success would be whether or not he remained loyal to several questionable D coaches. the recruits would come. his classes were getting better.

Great points.
If it weren't shadowed by The Horror, the Stanford-USC game would rank among the biggest upsets in cfb history

I am well aware of what Harbaugh has accomplished. I was not "dissing" Harbaugh. I was merely commenting after reading everything about Hoke, I forget that I really wanted Harbaugh. B/c by all accounts, we got not only a great coach, but a great man to lead our football team.

if Hoke somehow finds a way to lead Michigan to Indianapolis to play for the Big Ten title on the first weekend of December, instead of Hoke protecting the president, there may be a few Michigan fans lining up to take a bullet for him.

I had a SUPER meltdown when i heard Hoke was hired. I am so glad my anger and frustration was for no reason. Hoke has gone above and beyond what my expectations were. I just hope he kicks ass in the Big Ten and continues to bring in top talent. Never saw this coming!

When he was hired I thought what the heck is DB doing. Then you get past the prom queen thing with the other candidates, you see that he is the one that makes the best marriage of coach and school. The same thing happened with Bo. Nobody knew him in fandom. But he revived the program. Brady made exceed all of that because is is so damn dedicated, a great teacher, recruiter, and he really really wants to be here and he loves his players. I couldn't ask for anyone better than that. I don't think you have to worry about violations with this guy and you don't have to worry about him holding the pro's over your head. "This is Michigan for Christ sakes."

Hoke is one hell of an upstanding man. I did not like the hire when it happened but I have eaten my words, and am glad to do it!

Hoke was prepared to take a bullet for the President, and I would bet he would be willing to take a bullet for the University of Michigan

Did anybody else click on the link to the Rachel Uchitel and her former Penn State Fullback new husband?

Of course I did!

...there was also this piece, which leads me to believe that they were really reaching for things to cover at this game.

When the news broke about the Hoke hire, I raised one eyebrow Spock-style and thought, "The guy from San Diego State?" and began a polite "WTF" e-mail to be addressed to Mr. Brandon. I knew he was our defensive line coach years ago, but that had obviously been, well, some time ago.
I never sent it. From the opening presser onwards, I have been totally on board, liking virtually everything he's done and said, feeling giddy when I think about where he could take the program, and, well, his outspoken love of this university. This is Michigan fergodsakes. He is Michigan fergodsakes.

He had me from the first presser. I was skeptical until that day when I had my first sip of the Kool Aid.

Hoke has been on a runaway train and I have been enjoying the ride. This was what RR was supposed to be, but it wasn't. If you live in the past you have no chance to succeed.
