Demetrius Hart, Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix and LaQuentin Smith talk about the recruiting process and their future plans.

Demetrius gives some insight on his top three and the the reason he is considereing them.

Michigan: "They are in a moment of rebuilding so they are going after the guys they really want," Hart said. "Most of the top programs are recruiting to fill a hole here or there but Michigan needs versatile athletes that can step in and do a lot of things."

Dear Dee:

Sounds like we have a mutual understanding, because when you come to Ann Arbor we will all expect, and want, you to:

1)  Step in; and

2)  Do a lot of things

...I sense Hart has Michigan has his prohibitive favorite. I think the UConn game could seal the deal if we do well, the crowd's into it, and the weather cooperates.

I've watched Alabama a bit over the last couple of years, but don't know what D they run. According to Dix:

They play six defensive backs during the game...

Sounds an awful lot like a 3-3-5 with the 3rd LB more like a 4th safety. I know a lot of people are making a big deal of the "scheme change", but I am all for it. I think it will simplify the assignments and allow our players to react instead of think. Plus, anything resembling what the Tide have been doing on D is all good in my book.

I don't know if Dee will commit at the UConn game, but he'll see a helluva atmosphere.

I guess that's a more realistic meaning to that snippet than thinking Alabama runs a Dime package all day. I'm just trying really hard to believe that our defense won't be that much different from the great defenses in college football. I also believe Florida runs a lot of 3-3-5 sets in their D and we've already heard of VaTech's 3-3-5. I still think our "scheme change" or whatever you want to call it will be good. 2 years with 1 DC can only help that as well.

Oh Michigan Football talk. You are my life raft in a sea of offseason boredom. Thank you.

Smith and Hart could be a package deal...

Smith, a linebacker/safety product who has more than a dozen offers himself, might have tipped the hand of both players.

"You know we've always wanted to play together," Smith said. "I mean if we get up to Michigan and everything is going well and we feel comfortable … you never know."

I don't think we've offered LaQuentin Smith yet according to the 2011 recruiting board.  Maybe an offer coming soon?

Yes, we've offered LaQuentin Smith, but we're not really recruiting him that hard.  Kind of a package offer for Dix, Hart, and Smith.  Landing Hart alone will be great; Dix is pretty solid to Alabama but if we could sway him, that would be a monsterous pickup but i highly doubt it.

FWIW I just read on Rivals Dee Hart will likely take his official visit for the MSU game and possibly an unofficial for the Iowa game

makes it up for the Uconn game or not - it still sounds as though he's planning 2 more visits to AA.  That's very positive.

If he makes it up for 2 games, I'd prefer him to come up for the Uconn and MSU games.  Those should have the best atmosphere for obvious reasons, IMO.

if Michigan starts off say 6-1, there's a chance they could win 4 more games, counting the bowl game. but we will get hart and smith foursure!!!

What position are we recruiting Smith for?  I assume it's defense, but is it a safety or LB?  He's 6'1" and already 205 according to Rivals, so if he adds a normal amount of weight he could certainly be a WILL LB.  Any insight?  Magnus Ver Magnusen?

I read an article where he was talking about playing safety, but then said that he could play linebacker, too.  He thought that flexibility would help him get on the field.

I think he'd be a candidate for SAM.  I don't really see him as an inside linebacker even if he packs on some poundage.
