Doran Grant & Wayne Lyons trim list

Submitted by Maize and Blue… on

U of M still in the running for both.

Lyons down to 14 with M, ND, and Nebraska the only schools not from Cali, Florida, or the SEC.  I don't know if there is chance we land either, but the more highly rated guys we are in on the better the chance we pull some.  I believe the flood gates will open next year after we go bowling this year.

I liked that Doran mentioned us first in his interview, he seemed really enthusiastic that UM was still in it for him. As far as Lyons goes, I know he mentioned in an earlier interview that UM was recruiting him the hardest of any of the schools. With his heavy emphasis on academics (some of the other schools in his final 14 are names you wouldn't expect, like Vanderbilt and Stanford), I think we have a fairly good shot at him.

Wayne Lyons has a GPA of 4.96.  He also happens to be a 4 star safety ranked in the top 100 nationally.

His offer sheet includes almost every top football program coast to coast.  I'm talking about the big boys of college football - teams like Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Michigan, USC, Harvard and Pennsylvania.  Wait.... wtf?

When's the last time you saw a top 100 football prospect with Ivy League schools on his offer list?  Just the fact that Harvard and Penn offered him a football scholarship tells me he's seriously serious about academics.

Michigan should have a good chance if the coaches can get him on campus for a visit.

but Harvard and Penn can't have offered him football scholarships because the Ivy League prohibits the granting of athletic scholarships.  I see that he is listed as having offers from those schools on Rivals, but in the case of the Ivies, I'm not sure exactly what an offer means.  Likewise, I can see Rivals lists kids with offers from the service academies, but since everyone who goes to one of the academies goes for free, those offers can't mean the offer of an athletic scholarship.

OSU was previously his number 1, but he's shaken up his order since then. He has no leaders, and the OSU class is filling up quickly. I don't think they have as good of a shot with him as they used to.

You might be right about OSU waiting on him, but I disagree with your other point. Grant has taken this process, which began for him in his sophomore year, very slowly and deliberately. He waited about a year to come out with a top list, and only "shook things up" when he was sure that the top list no longer represented his interests. A few things changed since his top list came up. Personally, I'd like to think that he saw OSU picking up several more DBs in their class and Michigan losing an elite corner in Demar, but that's just hopeful conjecture. Once he comes up with another top list, I expect it to be fairly different from the one he has now, with OSU falling a bit.

all OSU.  You are delusional if you think OSU wouldnt wait on the number one corner in the state.  Bottom line, michigan has about 1% of landing him.  Hell, i'll bet you money he ends up in Columbus.  And the whole Dorsey debacle had no impact on him so called "shaking" things up.  He said he would visit more schools way before it came out that Dorsey wasn't going to be accepted.
