Dog Names in relation to Michigan Athletics

Submitted by Zonereadstretch on
Most will probably find this topic corny, but I do enjoy the perspectives and opinions of the community so I figured I’d get your take on helping me out. This coming spring my wife and are hoping to add a chocolate lab to our family; in the meantime we’re trying to compile a list of prospective names to choose from that center around something of common interest to us…one of those being Michigan Football. Ideally we’d like to keep the name to (2) syllables (but not limited) and the name needs to be one for a male. So far my current winner is “Wheatley,” and my wife’s is Schembechler aka ”Schemey” for short. I do have to admit we stole and/or borrowed the name “Schemey” in a way from the owners of a Dalmatian that tailgate over by the Varsity Tennis Complex on game day. Anyway any and all thoughts would be much appreciated. P.S. If you have ideas outside those of Michigan Football, be it Michigan Hockey, Basketball, Campus etc we’re open to those ideas as well.

We have 3 dogs: Hailey, Bo, and Lloyd. Hailey is a retreiver/chow mix. She is old and crochety. Bo is a rott/chow mix. She is the best dog ever. Her only flaw is that she sometimes barks/snaps at strangers. Lloyd is a great dane. Still a puppy, so we're not entirely sure of her personality. We plan to keep up this trend with our future pets. Yes, they're all girls, and we gave them boy names. We couldn't think of any Michigan related girl names that actually sounded good.

I grew up with a 115 lb Doberman named Bo. Ironically enough, my dad wanted to name him Brutus, from Popeye, not the Buckeye. However, with me being 1-2 years old at the time, all I could pronounce was when I tried to say Brutus was "Bo", so Bo it was.

might be best to keep it to honorable players who are no longer with us, so that they don't get busted doing anything dishonorable. like if you named your dog "traylor" in the 90's you would have to explain to people that it was traylor before the scandals and getting too fat and being worthless. try Harmon, or fielding or yost or fritz (crisler) or even gerald (depending on your political persuasion) who spoke of world peace. or just BLUE

I like Wolvie as a dog's name. A little bit ironic, and encompasses all of Michigan's athletics. Others I came up with but don't have a humors explanation for: Fielding Ugli Little Dog Tate Rod Red zonereadstretch Incidentally, if I were a Penn State fan, I would name by dog JoePa, teach my dog that my house/living room/whatever was called Penn State, and have JoePa summon JoePa all the time. And every time the commercial came on, hopefully my dog would get really excited.

to find out what he's like. if he's reliable, name him "Lloyd"; if he loves to run, go with "Shoelace"; if he's a little slow, "Sheridan" is a wonderful name; if he's got a soothing bark, your dog's a "Coner"; if he gains a lot of weight, name him "Plow King"; if he bites you, name him "Rosenberg"; if he buries your wallet in the back yard, go with "Feagin"; if he's inexplicably proud of himself everytime he tinkles in the bushes, call him "Booboo"; but if he runs away, call him "Clemons;" (unless you catch him, then call him "Threet.") 2 cents.
