Does anyone remember the Ann Arbor police officer?

Submitted by radfan5 on

When i was younger my uncle used to take me to a game or two a season, from the ages of 7 - 18 (im now 31). he passed away in early 2000 of cancer. My first memories of the Big House and becoming the Michigan fan i am today were formed in those years.

Anyway, with the first home game coming up this weekend, i was reminiscing of years past. There was an Ann Arbor police officer that used to work the crosswalk from the golf course across stadium street. He was a big black guy, who wore white gloves and when you walked by him you were supposed to slap him five. My uncle used to say his name everytime ( i believe a nickname). I cant for the life of me remember it, and obviously cant ask my uncle. You guys are the know all, and amaze me with your knowledge on a regular. Can anyone remember this man's name?

I think you and Hennesbe are referring to the officer at the SW corner of Michigan Stadium, kitty-corner from Pioneer HS, at the intersection of Main and Stadium.    He's the one who made fun of opposing fans from his elevated booth; the OP is referring to a cop at a completely different location, I believe it's at the SE corner of Michigan Stadium where fans cross arriving from or heading back to the Golf Course, almost directly in front of Crisler Center/Arena.

As I've had season tickets since '77, I used to cross near Pioneer HS most of the time until the last 5 years, when we started parking most of the time on AAG&O.  I had only parked on the course occasionally prior to then, so I only vaguely remember the officer referred to in the OP.
