...I'm sure Penn State and Nebraska would just be peachy with that idea. /s

That's what makes it even better
August 20th, 2010 at 10:03 PM ^
they can live with it.
August 20th, 2010 at 9:59 PM ^
Not going to happen.

directional or something like red and blue.
I would find it hard to believe that the Big Ten would be willing to just openly say Michigan and OSU are our staples. It is the truth but one of those non-Politically Correct statements from an organization.

How about...."The Winners" and "The Losers"

5. Indiana
6. Northwestern
7. Wisconsin
8. Illinois
9. Minnesota
10. Nebraska
11. Purdue

The Lakes and the Plains divisions would be cool, since most teams are situated around the Great Lakes region, or the Great Plains region. However, it will probably be North-South, East-West, or something simple.
August 21st, 2010 at 8:46 AM ^
like Great Lakes and Midwest.
August 21st, 2010 at 9:53 AM ^
I like it.
If they call it "East & West" Michigan must go into the West Division, otherwise it would screw up the final line in "The Victors".
August 20th, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
BIG NORTH
August 20th, 2010 at 10:13 PM ^
Big 10 East
Big 10 West
August 20th, 2010 at 10:15 PM ^
then then they can call the two divisions "Dumb" and "Dumber."
August 20th, 2010 at 10:27 PM ^
Agreed, it's either going to go directional East/West or North/South, or they'll come up with something like the ACC where its arbitrary like Midwest/Great Lakes
August 20th, 2010 at 11:07 PM ^
Great Lakes & Great Plains
August 20th, 2010 at 11:14 PM ^
What about the Michigan/Nebraska division being called the Bosborne Division and the OSU/PSU division being called the Joewood division?
August 20th, 2010 at 11:35 PM ^
. . . so just name them Laurasia and Gondwana.
problem solved.
August 20th, 2010 at 11:43 PM ^
Mongoloid/Nutwood Division vs. Pesky Mammal/Bird Division.
Or Delaney's G's and Delaney's Hustla's.
Or Long Division vs. Joy Division.
Or the Osterberg Division vs. the Westerberg Division.
Or the Melanie Division vs. the Collins Division.
August 20th, 2010 at 11:53 PM ^
They may need to come up with some off the wall names, I hope somethin crazy. From what we've heard so far, geography (ala, N-S E-W) is not that important.
August 21st, 2010 at 12:26 AM ^
they'll give us the "Big" and the "Ten" Divisions.
August 21st, 2010 at 11:06 AM ^
"Big Division"
1. Michigan
2. OSU
"Ten Division"
The other 10.
August 21st, 2010 at 12:45 AM ^
If they aren't based on geography at all, they might as well call them Alpha and Bravo or Charlie and Delta.
August 21st, 2010 at 3:26 AM ^
How about honoring the players who made the conference what it is today?
Clarett Division and Mandarich Division
August 21st, 2010 at 7:30 AM ^
Leaders Division
Scholars Division
August 21st, 2010 at 9:43 AM ^
why does everyone assume that if UM and OSU are not in the same division, the annual game is dead? I disagree. There would have to interdivisional games every year, otherwise we'd only have five conference games. OSU could still be UM's last game every year regardless. The only drawback is that it might lead to playing the game twice in consecutive weeks (last game + conference championship game).

No doubt that JoePa is a legend, but PSU has only been in the Big Ten for a fraction of the time of the conference's existence.
I wouldn't be opposed to generic names like B10 North/South or B10 East/West.
August 21st, 2010 at 1:23 PM ^
has been around give or take 100 years. One of the biggest reasons for its reputation can be traced to the historice players that have played in the conference. With that in mind, I suggest that Illinois be in a Division named the Grange Division; Michigan be placed in the Friedman or Harmon Division.
